More PS1 Classics For PSN "Shortly"

Not long after the PlayStation Store really got rolling, we learned that Sony planned to issue a continuous stream of original PlayStation classics for download. We're all well aware of the awesome titles of yesteryear, and if you've misplaced those games or never got a chance to play them, downloading them from the Store for an agreeable price is an awesome idea.

Unfortunately, it seems like only Japan is benefiting from the majority of PS1 games on the Store, although we do have several gems here in the U.S. Everyone wants to know when Sony will add more (there are plenty more titles that are well worth playing), and the MTV Multiplayer blog asked head of hardware marketing for SCEA John Koller about it. Koller simply replied- "Yes, we are working on further PSone additions to the PS Store and should see those launch shortly." Well, that's certainly good to know. Where's Metal Gear Solid, damnit? Thing is, this is the time of year when the downloadable classics should hit the store, especially due to the bad weather setting in for certain parts of the country. The days will soon come when nobody wants to venture out, but they may want to relive the glory days of the 32-bit era...hence, they go to the Store and peruse the available PS1 games. "Oh look, MGS for only a few bucks!" Or how about any number of those awesome RPGs that helped to define the generation?

So we'll be on the lookout for any new announcements of more PS1 games coming to the Store, but in the meantime, what do you want to see up there? Name your favorite PS1 titles that aren't up for download yet!

Hmm, this will be interesting. Except I've got the 80 gb PS3 with Backwards Compatibility. I still play all my old PS1 and PS2 games on it...and I've got a lot of them....so I won't be using this that much.

As for favourite PS1 title? hmm...Final DOOM..that's just a classic. Other than that, there's so many to choose from. Tell them to put the whole library up there! And sell them for like a buck a piece..lol

I'd love to see Fear Effect 1 &2, Dino Crisis 1&2, the first 3 Resident Evils, Parasite Eve 1&2, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, and FF7 & 8. Aww, but who am I kidding, we'll get Jet Moto 2. :P

I would love to see Xenogears, Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill and intelligent qube (I thought it was intelligence cube? idk I haven't played since I used to play the demo disk that had Parappa the Rappa on it, but that game was fun). Those are the only games I can't find anywhere besides online, which I don't really like buying off of.

Oh God IQ was amazing!! I've played such a long time ago I cant remember the name and I've been in search of this elusive title for years! I'd buy it instantly. Oh, and Parappa the Rappa. And I'll add Abe's Oddyssee to the mix. That was was PS1 wasnt it?

When you say Abe's Oddyssee are you talking about Oddworld : Abe's .... ( thought it was Abe's exodus, but yes it's a ps1 game) because this retro gaming store near where I live has had it for sale for $35 and I never knew why it was that expensive, I mean it must be a great game to still be so valuable. Can anyone enlighten me about how this game is good, because I'd definately like to pick it up if it sounds intriguing.

Abe's Oddysee was the first game. Abe's Exoddus was the sequal. I own Exoddus. Very good games. I wouldn't mind seeing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 up there. To me, that was the best the series had to offer. I still remember playing the demo(from Pizza Hut of all places) like crazy lol.
P.S. Both PS1 Oddworld's were really fun because they were pretty original. Look up some vids to see if they're for you. You can fart whenever you want and possess enemies...what more is there to life? :P

this isn't a psone game, but maybe sony can buy the rights to metal gear. i would love to play the original metal gears!

Minnesota=Yeah the cold is here and the snow is on the way, gimme my PS1 downloadables. Gotta have me some Suikoden II.

Honestly, how hard is it to put these up? The cost has to be minimal and at those cheap prices Sony could really rake in the dough. Who IS making the decisions over there?

You know, I've been wondering the same thing. I think we need to move a few of the M$ people over to Sony and set them straight lol... as long as they don't put so many lame crap downloadable titles out there as well that is, haha.

I'll bust a nut when MGS gets rereleased. I've been holding off getting MGS4 for aaages, just incase they do a substance/subsistence style thing with it, but I played the demo and had to change my pants...

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus.
Great Games, puzzle-solving side-scrolling platformer. And the ability to do a fart and explode sligs by telekinisis made it a brilliant series. Too bad they never finished it.

Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus are 2 different games and both are also classics.

There was supposed to be a series of five games. The first two were on the PS1 and the third went exclusively the the xbox which is where I believe it ended.

yeah, I think they were supposed to do 5 games based on Oddworld, but not all involving Abe.
I thought the developer went bankrupt or something, that was a while ago though so not 100% sure.
It gives me an idea though, maybe I'll make an Oddworld inspired LBP level....

Actually Exoddus wasn't even part of the five games. It was supposed to be Abe's Oddysee, Munch's Oddysee, and then 3 other Oddysees. Exoddus was just a sequal to the first of the 5 games. Too bad they didn't finish them but Munch's Oddysee didn't really please me anyway.

Oddysse and Exodus were amazing! Munch was horrible and didnt they have that western inspired oddworld? I'd stick to the 2d thank you. Big mistake to go 3d. We were happy the way it was so keep it that way.

I'd like to see the Abe games as well as Tomba ! I'd like to play Johnny Bazookatone also !

That's one thing I like about my Wii ! I've got lots of old nintendo classic games that I play regularly ands they are still fun to play.
