Home Beta Invites Sent To North American PS3 Owners

Over the past few months, whenever we had to do a story regarding PlayStation Home beta invites, there was always a lot of erroneous information (not our fault, damnit) and more than a few rumors. We were never really sure if any North American PS3 users had received an invite to the closed beta, for example...but now we know.

I have gotten my invite to the beta and I know many of our readers have found the happy e-mail in their inboxes. So without any doubt, the first round of Home beta invites has gone out in the U.S., and if you haven't seen one, don't fret; we imagine more are on the way. Either that, or the launch of the open beta is only a few weeks off, which means you won't have to wait long, anyway. We're going to dive in later on and give you our impressions ASAP, but in the meantime, let us remind you of something: PlayStation Home is barely more than a foundation right now. When you see the open beta, that's exactly what it is; an open beta. Sony has a long ways to go - they're well aware of that fact - and in a couple years time, Home will look and feel nothing like it does now. The possibilities are limitless and given feedback from users and the creativity of the Home designers, we're confident Home will be a major selling point of the PS3. It kinda is now, but many strides have yet to be taken.

Oh, and we are hoping that all these rumors about certain aspects of Home coming with a price tag aren't trustworthy. As far as we know, Home is a free service and will remain that way, although we wouldn't be surprised to see some "premium content" go for a few bucks here and there.

I was so freakin happy when I got mine a couple months ago.

I read that they sent out a ton of invites to do a load test for the home servers, but I think it was over in europe.

I didn't get an invite either and I downloaded the "application" the first day it was available. I call shenanigans against this "Duke Nukem Forever" service.

I am one of the lucky ones that received the invite e-mail. I was expecting that SCEA will make some noise at launch, but nothing........not even at the US Playstation Blog. One more thing, as per the e-mail there was supposed to be an event at the Plaza (6 to 8 PST) and nothing. Just a bunch of people "new" to Home (including myself) just wondering what happened. Anyway, finally I am at Home.........it is a "new" Home and therefore it will require time, dedication and patience to see more good things in there..........but it is Home sweet Home!

Guys, it's not like you'll be waiting much longer. I think us lucky few (many?) who got an email yesterday are only here to stress test the serers for a couple weeks before they unveil the open beta.

I give it two more weeks at the most. And you can quote me on that.

1.00 is cool!

before I had the Beta file in my 'Beta file' folder, 1.00 gives its own icon, so now it feels real not strictly Beta.

its got to be close!!!!

Apart from maybe some new face stuff and clothes, there is nothing new from this version to the next, yet the 77meg download must accout for something.

I say we're bloody close to a full launch here chaps!

I have never gone to the Home website, and I still got an invite to the Beta.

You see, I am really awesome. And when you're as awesome as me, people give you stuff.
(Translation: I've bought enough of Sony's products in my life that they feel my opinion holds some kind of weight. I've registered both my PS2, PS3, PSP, and list of games on the Playstation Underground, which got me into GAP, which gets me into betas.)

I get the feeling that joining the playstation underground when the original Playstation launched and being a GAP member since it started has given me some advantages in getting into betas- I certainly never signed up for anything about Home Beta, but I was sent a beta key- never signed up for R2 Beta, but received a key. Now PSU is closing its doors and merging into PSN, so that won't give you advantages anymore, and GAP is invite-only.

I have now been trying the home Beta for three days.
Wow, is this ever BETA!
I do think this does have potential in the future to be fun and interesting, but right now it seems a little early to yell hooray!
The games inside are full of bugs, there are major collision detection issues with the graphics, the sound is glitchy at times... the list goes on.
I do find it a cool concept don't get me wrong, I just am not sure I want to virtually wander around in a simulated world being assaulted with Sony advertisements and having a dozen strangers invite me to their friends list.
That last one was kinda creepy. I had no less than 10 people who I walked past send invites. I never looked at them or typed to them or spoke over the mic to them; they just added me. What's up with that?
If I walked down the street and every 10 people or so stepped up to me and said "Hey, wanna be my friend!?"; I'd run. I'd run real fast until I got out of that neighbourhood. That's just creepy.
My big question is: What is Sony's goal with this?
Okay, all done; flame away!
:)

I got 2 beta invites - this year has been good for me with betas, first R2, then Killzone 2 and 2 invites for home (gave it away to a friend), the only one I missed was LBP.
Does anyone who is in the beta know what happened to the Uncharted and Far cry 2 rooms? Earlier I was able to see them in the world map, but no more after the latest update.

Man - this is hard to believe. A couple of weeks ago, I got the invite in the email (even though I don't have Qore or anything). I got on to Home (it was at v 0.98 at that time).

Today (Nov 24), when I checked my email, there was ANOTHER invite, with a different Redeem Code.

Now I know that I had tried to sign up for Home Beta multiple times (on their Home Trial page), but it was all using the same email address (used for my PSN). I find it hard to believe I got multiple invites :).

I am not sure how, but I am in. I never applied for the beta, never downloaded the Home theme, I just upgraded to a new 500GB drive, installed linux and was in the process of re-dwonloading all of my rockband tracks (Backup failed 50 times in a row even after deleting all game saves, video, music, and demos). Checked my e-mail Friday afternoon, and "Welcome To Home". A little under 4GB reseved later, I am home.

I gotta say it is impressive. I am not a SIM's player, but this is pretty sweet.
