Resident Evil 5 Updates: Co-Op, Sunlight, And Graphics

Although EA's Dead Space has certainly set the bar this year for the survival/horror genre (and we hear Left 4 Dead is excellent as well), everyone expects Capcom to blow us all away with Resident Evil 5. And thanks to a new hands-on preview by GamingIndians.com, we now have more crucial details for all you anticipatory gamers out there.

The first major piece of information, which you may have already heard, is the inclusion of cooperative play. For the very first time in the franchise's history, you and a friend will be able to go through the single-player campaign, and this can be done online or via split-screen or system link. Character #2 is Sheva, and if a human isn't controlling her, the AI will take the reigns. Thankfully, the previews says this AI is quite effective and appreciated, as she can both heal and fight. The second point of interest focuses on a significant change: most fans of the series understand they'll never see sunlight when playing an RE title, but as some media has already shown, that changes in RE5. Kinda like some famous zombie movies in the past, there will be plenty of fighting in the out-of-doors with the brilliant sunlight beating down. We believe this may actually ramp up the freak-factor, just because when everything is out in the open, it seems more...real. That's just our opinion, though.

Lastly, as Capcom has said before, we hear once again that both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game should appear visually identical to one another. Despite a few marked frame rate and other technical issues, the preview sounds quite promising, and we can't wait to get our hands on this one next year.

I'm really looking forward to this, the 2 player split-screen co-op especially. I downloaded Resi 2 off the PSN store the other day and I'm loving it.

Sounds good

Sheva made me love this game
I'm actually more hyped to get to use her and watch her story in the game than ANYTHING ELSE.

Chris is crap, Leon any day!

Omgz! Chris=Hax! lol I heart all the characters. But with Chris, there's sure to be more Wesker. Wesker is my favorite video game character ever as well as my favorite villain of all time. Leon's cool too though.

Agreed. It's a nice change to have zombies out in the sunlight rather than the standard dark and drab settings we have grown accustomed to. I cannot wait for this game and the coop is going to be awesome. It's probably the first title to actually HAVE such a feature where the term 'coop' actually means something lol.

And I also heard L4D is pretty awesome although I heard it can get repetitive very quickly as well. Looking forward to it tho when it drops in price... however, I might just rent it, idk yet.

Well its a must buy for me, but I do kind of prefer to "survive" on my own. Otherwise it's 'co-op/horror' even with an AI wandering around. But at least you get some help, saving that girl from RE4 was like dragging a wooden leg around.

No, they were just playing an early build. I wouldn't worry about it.

I dont know ben, it seems like reviews for multiplat games always report more problems(specifically those) for the ps3.

what annoys me is that they don't give the option to play the campaign alone. I just can't see it being scary if your playing with the computer or with a friend.
The could at least give you the option to play alone!

Hopefully this will be awesome I have been waiting for a good co-op split screen after the butchery of the Resistance co-op in part 2. Thats just my opinion mind you so don't burn me out. I just wish there was the option of playing through the story Co-op style like part one.

I never owned any gaming machine that wasn't Nintendo. I got a ps3 in january for blu ray and Resident Evil 5 (tho now I've found so many more reasons I shouldve got one sooner :-D). and so far RE5 looks like it will not let us down.
