Hideo Kojima Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

There's no doubt in anyone's minds that this award, regardless of personal gaming preference or bias, is well-deserved.

During the MTV video game awards, they handed out their very first Lifetime Achievement award, and it went to Metal Gear Solid creator and industry visionary, Hideo Kojima. You can watch the full presentation, complete with a MGS homage montage and Ubisoft cutie Jade Raymond. Raymond extols Kojima's efforts over the past decade, and although he has created other titles like Policenauts, she appropriately focuses on the legendary MGS franchise. Kojima then goes to accept his award and the first thing he says after saying he's "honored," is that he has absolutely no intention of retiring. Many times, when a lifetime achievement award is handed out, it's well after the person's body of work is behind them, but I think we all know that Kojima has many more years of creativity and imagination within him. In many ways, this award might even be premature; Kojima is certainly deserving and what he has accomplished in such a short span of time is incredible, but imagine what the future holds... The fifth Metal Gear has been rumored to be in development, and we can't wait to hear about it.

He adds: "I will continue to create games as long as I live." ...that may be the most comforting statement we've heard all year.

I think that because there was MGO Online Beta before the game came out, that you can't just forget about the online. I never bothered with it but I did read everything posted on the playstation blog about the beta before release.

It was kind of like everyones first hands on experience with the game and I'm sure that the single player erased any bad first impressions, but it was still a selling point in the beginning. Lots of people were really interested in the online play.

Well I meant the award and the article. The game brought tears to my eyes a couple times, especially the ending, and when Raiden saves you from arsenal gear and gets crushed...

Oh sorry for the mistake and again I say no its not stupid at all. He is a great artist of the medium and if he would have said he was leaving gaming them I would have most definitely cried. But, I hope he sticks to his decision not to be involved with the MG project now and brings a whole new IP to the table or builds up some of his previous non-MG related projects of old. The MG series was beautiful and I think it had a wonderful close now lets see what this mans mind can bring in the way of something else.

Ben, I agree with you up to a point re the online bit. Yeah the single player is great, online not so great but dont you just wish that the online was as good as the single player, imagine how good it would be.

Well deserved for Hideo all the same. Lets hope this continues in his next installments of new games he is suposedly working on. :)

Who makes games like Hideo?....No one!

MGS4 Game of the Year...Point. Blank. Period.

And Z.O.E. was a revolutionary Mech Game. The camera system is still one of the best I've seen.

When you consider that Metal Gear Solid(the original) didn't have online and was as epic as any game today online makes no difference in such a great game.

Not all games need online.

Online is just a bonus.

Award well deserved. the only next person that can possibly compare against him is the "father of Final Fantasy franchise" Hironobu Sakaguchi who brings the reputation of Square around the world over the past 20 years. (P.S. as he left Square in 2004, FF series going down and Square has lost its track)

MGS4 is a phenomenal game in every aspect.
And MGO, IMO is the best online tactical shooter I've ever played.
