Yamauchi's Ambitious Vision Of Online Play In Gran Turismo 5
There are certain guys in this industry who are never happy with the current; they're always looking forward to the future in an attempt to fulfill their extremely ambitious vision. Hideo Kojima is one such person, and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi is another.
According to CVG, Yamauchi says he has "huge plans" for the online component of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, but the technology isn't quite where it needs to be just yet. He says they'll need improvement all across the board, from software to hardware to infrastructure, but if they can manage to hit their goal, gamers can expect something very, very special. Said Yamauchi:
"We've only done a very small part of what we want to do online, and of course there's a lot of things you can do online that we haven't even touched yet. A lot of that will not only depend on the advancement of the hardware, but of the infrastructure of the internet - connection speeds and things like that.
We're going to need a lot of software improvements, hardware improvements and infrastructure improvements all around the world. What we have to look as what we are going to do when the internet connection speeds are 10,000 times faster than what it is now."
As for the status of GT5, Yamauchi would only say that "production is moving forward," and we really don't expect to hear about an estimated release date for quite some time. However, he did say that 2010 isn't really accurate, and that the fifth installment in this legendary racing series may arrive "sooner" than we all think. And if you're a fan of online play - it will be a first in the series in GT5 - it seems you have a lot to look forward to.

Ive been beaten by one PSU Forum member who averages 3 seconds a lap faster around "650PP Suzuka No Mercy" than me and many others. But unlike being beaten by 3 seconds a lap by a computer, you know with this guy its skill and years of practice lapping it up and not just a computer being very fast because he's in the system.
