Sign Up For PlayStation Credit Card, Get $150 Off New PS3!

Well, we suppose if you have to have a credit card, why not celebrate your favorite hobby and save some money in the process?

A recent post by the Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller, over at the official PlayStation blog reveals what you see pictured here: the PlayStation credit card. With it, you can not only charge goods and services, but you can also "earn reward points towards the purchase of PlayStation and Sony products." Furthermore, if you act now, you'll be greeted with a very sweet introductory offer. If you sign up to get this card before December 31, 2008, you can save $150 on the purchase of a new PlayStation 3 console! If you want to take advantage immediately, head on over to SonyRewards and get instant approval for your card, which will give you the $150 credit towards a PS3. Or, you can go here to apply, and when you get your card, just use it to get that PS3. The $150 credit will then appear on your billing statement.

So if you're thinking about getting a credit card, you can just ignore all those silly applications you get in the mail. If you're a gamer, this is the only card you'll need.

i had a PS3 now, same as above, it would be awesome if I had it last year before I bought the PS3. I assume this card has a point system so that wutever Sony and PS product you buy, you will get point toward some kinda of cash rebate on future purchase, is it not?

No price cuts but plenty of deals for prospective buyers, still I wonder if this will garner much attention. If I didn't have my PS3 I might be tempted though.

I already have a Sony card, so I dont really need this. Plus, I already have a PS3. I've got no reason to get a new one.

Well, if I were to get it it would to build points and get savings off Sony products and games. I never incur debt, I always pay the card off every month as if it were cash, so the advantage for me would simply be to build points and buy those Sony goods and services cheaper.

I assume it is similar to other deals where by you can earn up to as much as 2-5% off purchases over the long term should you build enough points to warrant those sorts of reductions. Additional I am sure specific products and services being offered by Sony may be targeted to enjoy a greater points discount, depending on what their world wide marketing departments are focusing on at that time.

If you notice, it is a Credit Card and not a Debit card, I guess Visa needs to make some money along the way.

What's the interest rate on this thing? I've already got a PS3 so I'm not even bothering. That and I've already got more then enough Credit Cards. Even though this makes sense marketing wise, is it really a good idea to give young gamers a credit card especially during a recession?

Oh well, in the end it's up to the consumer to decide for themselves I guess.

The only thing that I have to say to Sony is: bad timing!

Who is in the market looking for new credit cards? What about credit scores? The way things are here in the US chances are that a lot of applications will be rejected!

Oh well, I hope this offer will bring new PS3 users, but Sony should have done this months ago.

sony its been doing this for 2 years already
i aplied and was denied sometime in 2006
sony is a corporation and they want to make money anyway they can especially if the economy
is bad they will aprove depending on your credit score and will throw you onto collect if you fail to pay they make money either way.
i guess anybody who applies knows what he/she is getting into, its called responsability.

i hope noone feels ofended just my 50 cents on the matter.

For some reason i'm disapointed, something i'd have thought microsoft would do. I'm sure its harmless but Gamers+Credit card=Debt.

Unless you don't charge much on the credit card and unless interest doesn't exist then Sony will find a way to make you repay the $150 (by charging interest that may add up over the years). There should be a credit card that lets you get great deals for all brands and retail stores so you won't have to have so many individual credit cards just to get good deals.
