RE5 Demo Hitting Japan Next Week?

Update: Thanks to a reader, we have learned of an update at ShackNews, which says that Capcom does plan to release this demo in North America.  Unfortunately, they wouldn't give a date, but the confirmation is enough for now.

Original Story:

Well, if you were one of the ambitious ones to set up a Japanese account for your PlayStation 3, you may get another chance to benefit this week.

We know Resident Evil 5 isn't scheduled to arrive until March of next year, but we've been wondering about a playable demo for 2008. And now, according to NextGen News, Famitsu has revealed that Capcom will release just such a demo on December 5, and it will even feature the much-publicized co-op gameplay. Obviously, given the source, we have to assume that if it's true, the demo will only come to the Japanese Store, which is why North American survival/horror fans will be very unhappy. Then again, Capcom may release the demo in other territories as well, only at a later date. This is one publisher who has been pretty good about releasing media and demos for new titles so far this generation - it's one of the reasons they have their very own section on the PlayStation Store - so we should see the demo at some point. However, December 5 remains up in the air, and if anything, it will debut in Japan first. Maybe you should just take a few days and visit those relatives of yours that live in the Land of the Rising Sun; they'll be glad to see you!

It may seem a little early for a demo, but we're not about to question good news, even if it is unconfirmed rumor. Nah, we only question the bad news.

Europe demo as well as the US demo please, here is an idea why not a world wide demo release for a change ?

Dillon, can you set up 3 accounts on the PS3 ? I have never tried this before. Maybe it could be worth looking into.

Yeah, you can set up multiple accounts, just make two more users on your PS3 and go from there :-)

Have you seen anything confirming it's for the PS3 too, Ben? I've only seen it mentioned as being for gold Live accounts so far, with the Famitsu article that first revealed the demo only mentioning the 360. They also made no mention of other territories so it could be specifically for Japan, to try and associate the game with the 360 before it launches.

I'm hoping it's not console exclusive, because exclusive demos is a rather silly practice.

Never mind, Shacknews has confirmation: the NA version will release later but will definitely be for both consoles. So PS3 owners in the US with a Japan account will get it before those with just a 360.

I dig demos but I know this will be worth it so I'll probably pass so that the initial awesomeness of buying it isn't tainted. And no, for God's sake I don't want to mess with setting up japanese accounts.

My boss has played the game (at a convention) so it's not farfetched to have a demo.
