Rumor: PlayStation Home Funds Determined By Earned Trophies?

If this is true, we want to know what evil genius concocted this particular system. Not only will it coerce us into playing games more, but it will make us become more active PlayStation Home users... Evil genius, we say!

But this rumor is hardly confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt and consider for yourself whether it'd be a good idea. Many of you probably have questions about how the money system in Home will work; how to actually get the money is the key determining factor, of course. You'll want to buy new threads for your avatar and new decorations for your pad, right? Well, there will probably be a number of different ways of obtaining funds, but the latest rumor says you will receive these funds based on the Trophies you've collected. Supposedly, three developers took questions from an assembled crowd in the closed beta, and in answer to one question, they replied:

"The release date for home is Dec. 15th or the 30th...they said it is definite. There will be random weather, there will be a money system. you earn money from collecting trophies. and you will get money for the trophies you already have."

Oh, that's tricky. The weather idea is probably both feasible and legitimate, and they also said something about the open beta being restricted to those 18 years of age or older, due to swearing censorship getting turned off. But this idea of earning money by earning Trophies is one that has gotten people talking, and we're still trying to decide if we like this process. Some Home users have already denounced this whole thing as a fake to begin with, though, so perhaps we won't have to think on it too long...

I like that idea, I'm wouldn't pay for fake clothes on my Visa....Real ones cost me enough money as it is....unless I can find someway to stay at home all day and make money playing HOME, then I'll waste money on virtual clothes..Without the need to leave the house I wouldn't have to buy real clothes anymore!! Now if we can just do something about the food situation...lol

Although, I'm still not sure I'll get sucked into the whole Home atmosphere anyways, so this might not matter in the long run...

ummm the swearing censorship is ON in HOME. there's always ppl swearing by typing and all you see is ****. now if they talking about mic then that's different.

oh yeah as far as the earning money for HOME from trophies im not sure i really like that idea. not everyone can afford to buy every game that and spend forever getting all the trophies.

i can see it already that there are going to be some ppl who are really "rich" because they got tons and tons of trophies.

OK, if the money depends on trophies it's ok, but I won't be paying for unreal clothes for an unreal world in where I would be able to play with unreal Barbie

Thats actually not a bad idea. I have noticed that the Japanese Home looks a hell of a lot better than ours. They have 12 arcades as opposed to our 8, better looking environments, and more different videos.

I have 221 Trophies Level.6 wonder how much money ill get also......... im in the beta u can get clothes by playing games like echochrome and ice breaker they are in the bowling Alley...

this would be great. Something to do with trohpies. and then when people come in my patch, i could say, yeah i bought this with trophy money.
@ffgamera, it makes sense
and also, i play burnout, uncharted, codwaw and motorstorm2, . all of those = load of trohpies.

Its funny, I was just having a conversation about this issue last night in the beta. Like someone said above, I'm not spending real mony on unreal things. It wouldnt be hard to spend, $20, $50, or even $100 at a time. Which is something I dont think alot of people want to do.

I just downloaded the beta this morning its really nice although it has alot more growing to do but its a good start, home has alot of potential like you said Ben. Its time for me to start collecting trophies

I just got my invite to the closed beta last night, funny cuz I didn't sign up for it, but I still think it's awesome. I think the people move too slow though... But yes, I think you should be able to get like, mini jobs, sell hotdogs or something lol.

It would be funny if we all had to get jobs in home like in the real world to earn money. If they are going to let us download extra clothes from the PS store (according to the original Home teaser trailer) then why can't we download Home add-ons that include furniture as well? And they could also let you earn money by trophies if you would rather do that. Or we could earn money every time we win a game of pool in the arcade.

I just downloaded the beta too, was a nice surprise when I received the email today.
I am impressed so far, I was doubtfull at first but will have to see how much time I spend in home lol

Okay, so some people are saying they don't want to spend real money on unreal merchandise, which I don't have a problem with. But the same people say to just rent games to earn trophies . . . in other words spending real money for unreal merchandise.

I personally vote against trophies for Home money, unless there is another way to earn it. I don't give a fig about trophies and don't relentlessly pursue them, so I really don't like the idea.

I can see it now. People will become really good at a few games, earn all the trophies over and over on different accounts and sell them to people for real money. Just like that internet game, world of something...

I really like this idea. I think Sony needs to do more of this if HOME is to survive. By this I mean integrating gaming that I do on a regularly basis into things I can do in HOME. I honestly don't think I would use HOME on a long term basis if it's created to be more of a stand-alone feature of the PSN.

I think that system would be brilliant. Not because I got 500 of the little buggers, ok so maybe thats part of it. It would make perfect sense to have a system like that though. You get more things unlocked in Home by playing more games. As far as the people who dont have any or are pissed because of this, why do you have a PS3? Surely you are not a casual gamer (having a PS3 by definition means the contrary) and as of 1/1/09 all games will have trophies so it makes perfect sense.

its a great idea, by getting trophies we feel rewarded for playing a game and playing it well, and now if we get PAID with virtual cash for home then we will be doubly rewarded for getting the trophies and playing games. i like the idea.

A post by the Home manager on the EU forums said that SCEE's open beta will be 16+ but may vary in other regions. I hope its true to be 16+ in the EU as im not 18 til April. Otherwise the idea of gettin rewarded for trophies is very interesting and makes earning trophies more valuable.
