Does The Revamped Alone In The Dark: Inferno Deliver?

Earlier this year, the highly anticipated Alone in the Dark launched to highly disappointing reviews. The Xbox 360 version was only mediocre and the PS2 version was absolute trash, which is why PlayStation 3 owners weren't so annoyed that their version was delayed. At that point, it was like...who cares?

But Eden Studios has been saying ever since then that they've overhauled the entire game for Sony's console, and that includes everything from control and gameplay foundation tweaks to added storyline sequences. The question is, now that this revamped title has hit store shelves for the PS3, did Eden deliver on its promise? We've been following this story for quite some time, and we know survival/horror fans always enjoy a worthwhile experience. Well, so far, the game is pulling down 7s, which isn't fantastic, but it's certainly better than before. Several reviews are saying that Alone in the Dark: Inferno is certainly the version to have, and while it can't stand up to the likes of Dead Space, it might still be worth your time if you're a fan of the genre. Hence, it's our recommendation that even though it's probably not worth the full price of admission, it might need a spot on your holiday wish list. I mean, you wouldn't have to pay for it, right?

It's unfortunate they couldn't make it even better, but the good news for the developer is that survival/horror titles are few and far between. Besides Dead Space and Silent Hill: Homecoming, there aren't many options for fans (although we hear Left 4 Dead on the 360 rocks the house). Perhaps if you're done with these, Inferno is a decent option.

Ben, will you be making an Inferno's review?

What I have read about the game, I don't think it will make it to my wish list this year, maybe when it costs about 30

Left For Dead, the guys in Game keep harping on about it to me as they know I own both machines, it is one of the most original games one guy keeps telling me for the 360, shame it wont be headed to the PS3 (yet) oh well plenty of games out there for us all.

Alone In The Dark is not one I particularly want to buy so will give this one a miss.

"one of the most original games" lol there is nothing original about Left4Dead, but regardless, Left4Dead split-screen co-op rocks. If you want a fun split-screen game, this game's perfect. Though it is quite short and the storylines well... non exsistant... but the co-op is the best I've played this generation. I doubt Left4Dead will ever come to PS3, but Resi 5 comes out next year and it looks like it'll be even better.

I have a feeling that L4D will be picked up by EA and the end result will be surprisingly good. I seem to be one on of the few people that think EA didn't do a bad job on porting The Orange Box. I feel this way because they were working with a game engine they didn't build themselves. Valve may give us the shaft but as least they will put the game in a competent developers hand to give the PS3 owners some love. In conclusion I look at it this way would you rather have the incompetent developers at Valve who apparently does not understand the PS3 architecture to make the game or for them to hand it over to a developer who understands the PS3 architecture to port the game.

I played the demo, I really tried to like it but unfortunately, no. I don't think I will be getting this anytime soon or even at all.

I tried the demo for the game and even though I like the cutscenes and the story in general (kinda), the controls sometimes seemed slightly out of place. Of course, I was able to deal with that, but the thing that really killed me was the driving in this game. The driving portion of the demo just really turned me away from the getting the game. :( Oh well...

really tired, but have to post...the demo sucks. clumsy controls, sub par graphics, and the item detection/interaction was disgusting. good night.

I played the demo. I really really wanted the game to be awesome because I loved the concepts. However it was nothing more than a horribly broken interactive movie. I didn't feel like was even playing a game. Not fun at all.

It seems its the same for everyone with the demo... the controls. Surely the devs knew the controls were quite still not right? I did not one bit like the camera control when in 3rd person, so I had to play the demo in 1st person.
