Midway's New Project "Looks As Good If Not Better Than Gears 2"
Who knows where the next masterpiece will come from in the video game world? Perhaps it will come from Midway...
Midway creative director Simon Woodroffe spoke to Videogamer.com about a currently unannounced game they have in development, and it's looking absolutely fantastic thanks to the benefit of "shared technology." How good is it looking? Woodroffe says that while he can't tell us much about it, "it looks as good if not better than Gears 2." That's a very bold claim, and he added that despite the comparison to Epic's awesome title, what Midway has cooking is "a totally different set up" and a "very exciting concept." No, we don't know the title of the game in question, but we're suddenly very interested to know what it is...Woodroffe said that being the "cynical type," it's rare for a simple prototype or sample to blow him away, but apparently, it happened. He concluded:
"... you know, the biggest factor that hasn't been touched upon in recent articles is the shared knowledge. We have 600 to 700 devs, all with Unreal experience, all working for the same company, all of whom can talk to each other. When we hit a problem, we have more people working on the engine than anybody - by a long way. And we have a massive pool of resources to draw upon. At least one team has dealt with pretty much every feature you might want in a next-gen game. Which means that we, as designers, are in a great position - because we can actually build games to be games, not just technology showcases any more."
Okey-doke. Now that you've built up the hype, let's see this mystery gem!

It will be interesting to see what Midway are working on, but I think either Epic are going to be better at using their own tech or this project is so different that they won't be comparable. Hopefully when this is revealed it will actually be something worth paying attention too though.

I've been playing it with a high expectations and a high level of critism, and I found a LOT of pop ups, raw textures and many many incredible wrong human proportions (one hand two times de size of a head, and it's not design it's simple wrong programmed).
Gears2 is just a Gears 1.5 with nothing new like it's predecessor.
And I would love to ear that the graphics will equal MGS4, not Gears 2

Especially if Epic are sticking to the current rate of releasing a new Gears game every two years, which would also put Gears 3 at 2010. Even if UE3 can't squeeze much more out of the 360, it's still plenty of time to further optimise the engine and enable a few new tricks.
