Killzone 2 Isn't Just A "Gray Wasteland"
We've promised you that Killzone 2 will be a next-gen revelation of epic proportions, but some are still wondering: "hey...is there any environment in that game that doesn't appear black or gray?" Guerilla's answer to this is a resounding, "yes."
Perhaps you may have missed the Killzone 2 preview in the August issue of EGM - as PSU pointed out recently - that clearly said players can expect the game to highlight "the natural beauty" of Helghan. We probably won't get any majestic "Lord of the Rings" scenery, but don't think the entire game takes place in dark, busted-up alleys. The trailers and previews may have been misleading in this respect, and Guerilla's QA Manager Seb Downie just clarified again in the official PlayStation forums: "[Helghan] is not just gray urban wasteland." The naysayers have always had the same common refrain over the past few months; in that environmental diversity isn't exactly a strong point of the game. However, that most certainly isn't true, although we imagine many of the more intense moments - like those seen in the aforementioned trailers - will take place in darker, more intimidating areas. It's just not the entirety of the experience, that's all.
Remember, we'll be handing out our special impressions (first via newsletter) this week, so stay tuned for the unveiling. We have a lot to tell you about, and it certainly goes above and beyond the beta testing!

3 things UE3 has problems with.
1. Texture load takes forever.
2. Muted Colors, even white is muted.Hell even the bloom is muted.
3. Collision detection, either its too high or too low.I've seen torque arrows stuck in the air.
All these are found in Gears 1.5 and this is a engine that Epic made. Now dont get me wrong I enjoy Gears 1 and 1.5,its just these issues pop up now and then.its what you get for making a universal engine. Now with K2 which is using a propriety engine with no other type of game in mind and built from the ground up and console specific, this is why you'll see the PS3 having the edge.

This gave the opportunity to walk around the environments. I studied every inch of 3 of the maps; I also shot at surfaces to see what was destructible and what wasn't. One object though in particular, something that resembles a sack of some sort; explodes when hit, however the fragments of material, once blown apart, simply "sink" through the floor and disappear. I didn't like this. Other objects such as fuel cans, tin cans littering the rooms and the odd Helgast "1950's" looking TV's mounted on the walls were all destructible... Also, as many of you may have seen, some walls and pillars too.
I walked around marveling at the lighting and the full AA. Finally there is a piece of software the truly shows off what the PS3 can do...
I MUST SAY THIS; all of you who scan the media intently, and criticize media outlets that seem to always be "negative" on the PS3, you guys will have a field day... because IF ANY media outlet gives this game less than 9, they are PS3 haters, I am sure of it... there is just NO EXCUSE... so keep your eyes peeled for those reviews... you'll pick the PS3 haters out very easily...
