Michael Phelps Video Game Coming
This past summer, he smashed records and thrilled a nation, so of course it would stand to reason that he gets his own video game.
In a 60 Minutes profile on Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps, it was revealed that he has a game "in the works," although no specific details were issued. Phelps, whose 8 Gold medals broke Mark Spitz's record of 7 at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, might be a bit of a gamer himself. According to Gaming Target, he received a promotional copy of Call of Duty: World at War on The Early Show, and he recently appeared in a commercial for Guitar Hero: World Tour. As the site pointed out, both games are published by Activision, so it would make sense if they're now working hard on a Michael Phelps swimming game. Of course, this isn't a title that one would expect to be a blockbuster in the current world of gaming, but perhaps Phelps will surprise everyone with a decent...er...swimming simulator? So far, the only swimming games out there have been the Olympic-based titles, and all of them have been awful. None had a decent gameplay mechanic for the swimming events.
Then again, we've always said one of the biggest reasons those games never succeed is because the developers are forced to simulate dozens upon dozens of different events. Here, they'd be focusing exclusively on the pool, so maybe...just maybe... We'll have to find out who the developers are, too, so stay tuned for more info.
