PSX Extreme Forum Update

First of all, we have to apologize for the extended forum downtime, and I figure we owe it to our loyal users to issue an update.

We can't really get into specifics, but let's just say we are working to bring back the forums as fast as we can, and they will hopefully return soon. We certainly appreciate the increased level of posts and topics over the past year and we certainly want all you avid Commenters - and there are a lot of you! - to head on into the forums to stimulate even more discussion. So don't you worry; it's not like our forums have disappeared forever, and I appreciate the e-mails I've seen in the past few weeks, asking for an update. I appreciate it because nobody sends those messages unless they care about the community, and I got more than a few of those e-mails...so that was awesome, despite the unfortunate situation. When the forums do come back, we may have some new changes (depending), although we can't really say anything specific as of yet.

Actually, while I have this opportunity, I'd like to give you all the chance to post up suggestions for the forums. Much like the Comments to our articles, a system that has worked out remarkably well, the forums really are important to us. So now, feel free to use the Comments to tell us what you might like to see. We appreciate your patience on this matter and look forward to hearing from you.

My first post (oh yeah and first post haha) to any of these forums. I just found this website about a month ago and now I visit it all day long, in the morning lunch and evening and every minute in between the updates on what's going on is the best on the net keep up the good work. I will see you tomorrow morning.

The embargo is up in 1 hour, 9 minutes. Don't get antsy...and don't forget that our newsletter subscribers get a bit of precedence on this matter. ;)

The emabargo ends at 11:00pm PST, 2:00 AM EST, and guerrilla is a European company so its early morning there right? Weird times I think.

Forums? I didn't even know you guys HAD forums...

i just let my forum-usage impulses manifest themselves in the comments. I guess I'll have to check them out once they're up and running again.

I only posted there like twice cuz it was kinda dead, but if it comes back I'll try to post something useful. I've had issues with forums in the past, like after PSU got hacked they brought it back up and boom it had xbot moderators with supernatural inhuman numbers of posts. Hope you guys can get around that.

it is somewhat dead for the most part, but the quality of chat is much better...and it should be as long as Sora and Ape don't figure out how to sign into it...

I been tellin you guys that there were users completely unaware of the forums. ;) But anyway if you could Ben (or Val, you do most of the physical site maintenance right?) do you guys know what exactly brought the forums crashing down? Or more specifically would you mind sharing? I'm curious. With all this downtime I've begun to get worried that the server completely fried and all of those posts and stats will be gone upon it's return, any info on whether not things will still be there when the forums return?

As far as suggestions I would love to see that chatroom idea we talked about. Good luck guys and please hurry I'm going through withdrawals here.

a live chatroom would be nice, as long as its not one of those dumb bottom fram HTML ones you see on a bunch of invisionfree boards...

Another really cool thing to have would be a place where we can share links online to gaming/electronics deals. You know, things like Amazon is having a gold box wii day again tomorrow (thursday) supposedly.

A live chat room would need people to be ops or moderators in there to stop the idiots or warn them etc. Bots can be placed in to do this like on some irc servers but they can be hacked etc and fake ones can be put in so it would have to be done someway for everyone to get the benefit of it.

Plus when you are opping a room like that sometimes it can feel like a job lol I used to op a lot in chat rooms but I got bored after about a year and ended up leaving irc for ages.

Even if the forums just came back in one way or another and not have the live chat room place as not all of us are on at the same time, ie a lot of you are in US and likes of myself and a few others UK, plus some in Europe too, im sure there are others not from Europe too. The message based one would be a good idea then as that way people from all sides of the world and different time zones can reply and be replied to. I wouldn't come online much late at night to chat to peeps from different timezones, I don't do it now, so maybe a live chatroom may or may not work. Maybe a trial run and see how it pans out.

Thanks for the update guys. I look forward to seeing the forums come back.

I agree that they are quiet but I prefer the village feel where everyone knows everyone ellse and gets a chance to read all the topics. I hate big forums.

Probably doesn't understand how to install flash. Do you use firefox portable? What version is it? Have you reinstalled flash player recently? They do work but it can sometimes be a bit challenging. If you post here then I'll try to help you out.
