Cryptic "Next Metal Gear" Image

Okay, who likes riddles? Who wants to flex some brain power for a few minutes? If you're sitting there, perhaps bored at work, maybe you need a little something to jump-start the neurons in your mind. Sooo...here ya go!

It may mean something; it may mean nothing. Here's the picture that is making the rounds on the Internet today, and everyone is wondering what it could possibly mean. Too many people are assuming this is a cryptic message regarding targeted platforms for the next Metal Gear title, but that seems silly to us. Would Konami really base their little teaser around something unrelated to the game? People need to stop assuming that developers and publishers are rabid console followers/fanboys, because for the most part, this has never been true. So what is it? It's an equation, but it doesn't seem to make much sense... Not surprisingly, Konami has already issued the standard "we don't comment on rumor or speculation" reply, which means everyone is free to consider any and all possibilities. We do know another installment in the legendary series is planned, although the days of Solid Snake are over. Whatever this is - it may hint at a storyline theme, or something - series fans everywhere are desperately trying to analyze it.

Sadly, we don't have the time to stare at this thing and try to deduce or discern anything, so we'll leave you to it. It could be absolutely nothing; just a plain ol' Internet prank. But if it really does hold some sort of meaning... Hmm...

The upside down "!" could be a reprentation of person or "i"
plus "!" might stand for excitment or " this awesome game"
Equals power up or turn on.
Person + Great game = Excited gamer?

I THINK I HAVE A WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT IT MEANS!!!! OK ALL THE WAY THROUGH METAL GEAR SOLID 4 SUNNY WAS SINGING A SONG WITH NUMBERS. FOR SOME REASON I THINK THOSE NUMBERS HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS. THE "GO" BUTTON IS MOSTLY ASSOCIATED WITH *COMPUTERS* NOT XBOX 360. THERE IS SOME TYPE OF BINARY CODE OR SIMILAR. ok lol im done thats my guess and im sticking to that. Its not going to the 360 (MGS4) because it said "The Next Metal Gear Is..." not "A Metal Gear is..."

Well I could be the gamer. ! could be from the fact any time you get spotted in mgs that symbol pops up on the persons head. And as for the power symbol read below. Now if any one noticed theres a exclamation point in the power symbol. So I + have been Spotted = time to put them to sleep lol. My gues though the next main char for mgs is going to be a Metal Gear because they use that kinda stuff in the load up on the Metal Gear's screens.

"IEC 5009, the standby symbol (line partially within a broken circle), indicates a sleep mode or low power state. The switch does not fully disconnect the device from its power supply. This may appear on a toggle switch opposite a power on symbol, alone on a pushbutton that places the device into a standby state, or alone on a button that switches between on and standby.

Yeah, that was the first thing that came to mind but just like buckeyestar said, it's the same for the PS3. But "it" being green might be more of a clue, since I do, to some extent, associate the color green to MS.

So many people, mostly fervent Xbots, are assuming the power symbol means Xbox. People fail to realize that the very same symbol is a universally accepted "power on" symbol. I have the same symbol on my laptop and PS3.

My guess is either a DSi or iPhone Ac!d game.

No it's not. The universal power symbol doesn't have an exclamation mark, but a solid line.

This further points away from it being a hint at "360", because the Power Ring consists if the universal power symbol, not the glyph here.

This could be anything. i for iPhone. ! could mean Metal Gear Ac!d or it could just be there because ! is always a part of Metal Gear. That power ring at the end is on PSone, two, and three. It's also on xbox and all kinds of other electronics.

I hope it's just a cheap iPhone game. Better that then Konami wasting time and money putting it on xbox for all the people that don't even care about MGS. Anyone that cares already played it or plan to play it on PS3.

Basically if this has nothing to do with MGS5 then it is simply a waste of money. Don't disappoint me Konami.

good point fellow gamers, it kind of makes a little more since that its a 360 meaning since the message is green, but it could mean that the series is starting over, something like a reboot or something, or it could mean a acid as buckeyestar said we don't know, and i really don't care i have both systems. and since metal gear was the only game that pushed the blu ray to its max i don't think it'll be going to the 360 if kojima is making it and if it does then theyre going to have to really dumb it down because not everyone has a big empty xbox hdd..

i (iphone?) + ! (ac!d or MGS) equals green power? ah, crap! Konami/MS is going to take over the world by downloading itself onto all the iphones in the world! No one will be able to find their i gear because it will all have Octo Camo! The only people not affected will be those that don't have Apple products..Which means Microsoft is finally taking over the world..(hence the green color) Ah jeez, we're boned...

What is this the DaKonami Code? IDK what this means? At 1st I thought, Xbox title (look at the power ring) but the xbox power ring has that outer ring segmented into 4 parts. This ring is continuous so it not hinting at Xbox.

IDK...I suck at riddles man. Call up Nick Cage and tell him it leads to another National Treasure. Let him figure it out.

Hmmm! You people don't get it no its not coming to xbox,the last time it did sales where shitty.Xbox fans said the game sucked and thay still do.And this game was optimized for ps3.KONAMI still don't see the demand for an xbox port its a big risk.

This debate could go on for days. It could just be Metal Gear Substance or Subsistance or an extra bit but they have already said that it wont be getting done. So now im not sure.

I'm going to go ahead and place my chips on an Acid game for iPhone/iTouch.

The i would be kinda dumb if its a DSi game since, the DSi is just a DS lacking the GBA slot with a bad camera added. Also, the DSi isn't even released in North America yet.

360 speculation is a red herring or a ploy by Konami to try to gauge interest in a MGS4 port, perhaps. But I think this web page refers to a game for Apple devices.

Agreed. Much as I can hope and dream... this isn't a Xbox endorsement.

The universal "Power" symbol is a circle with a vertical line breaking it. Changing that line to an exclamation point means something (maybe it means that the creator is an idiot and can't be bothered to check the myriad power symbols around him in the office... but that's unlikely) and it certainly doesn't mean anything "Xbox".

I'm throwing my guess in with the people speculating that it's foreshadowing an iPhone/iTouch/DS/PSP game.

(And to the people going on about the green.... have you ever seen an old terminal prompt? Back in the day, all computer input was like that. That's why the matrix "falling code" was green. That's why many computers in sci-fi games have black screens with green text. Green means nothing.)

I think it's a little mean to call people who think it means an xbox port xbots. If you own an xbox, as many people on here do, you know what the power button looks like. The green is not as dominant on the PS3 but it is the same symbol. I'm sitting at my computer and work and guess what has the EXACT same symbol - minus the upside down exclamation point. It's my desktop, in case you didn't get it.

I've never played acid. Any plot details that were in there maybe?

Ok i will not lie, If its a MGS4 port i will be pissed because i know 360 will not appreciate it (they will say its not good or something) and dont think they deserve it. On the other hand I want to say that I think its simply saying future Metal Gears will also be on the 360 NOT METAL GEAR SOLID!!!

the ! going in a 360 pattern could mean they turned around to pick something out of the past and turn around to place it in our future and it has the "Go" symbol for production has started. I say its a Metal Gear remake of the Originals. I say this also could be Metal Gear Solid: Existance which will have MG - MGS4 on one disk so that this series will have an ULTIMATE PLAYTHROUGH on Blu Ray (Could also be on 360 but productions of all the the Disks to hold it would be God awful and if you break1 disk you might be screwed). but I also stand by my statment at the top of the page lol!!

I believe it is going multi-platform cause the i represents i's from Wii, the last character represents 360, and the PS3 if You count all of the characters individually and you get 6 which represents the sixaxis! lol!

What amazes me are all the people screaming "Green" means XBOX360...

Are people so blind as to notice when the PS3 is on, the power light goes from RED (OFF) to GREEN (ON)?

Heck, my PC's power button is the same thing, and GREEN when it's on.

Green is a color for "GO", can be used to mean GOOD, OK, or NORMAL. To associate it with the XBOX360 only is silly.

The ONLY indication I can see for people claiming 360 is the i + ! which as I saw one person mention the idea 180* + 180* = 360. Makes sense, but I think that could be Kojima trolling to LOL@360 owners. As many have stated "!" is used for AC!D... It's also the alert symbol for MGS.

The thing is that the power button isn't a power button at all to me mind, because the stripe inside the circle looks more like a exclamation mark to me because it has that dot, i looked closely to my PC and PS3 power button it hasnt got that dot so i am assuming its somthing else...

i + exclamation = circle + exclamation

can somebody figure this out? ))))

Well to quell all you Xbox fan-atics out there, there was an article out there on the web that clearly states that "MGS4 is not technologically possible on the Xbox 360" and if the next MGS is gonna be as huge as MGS4, i dont think that the Xbox will be getting an MGS title anytime soon, possibly on the PC though...

Everyone is paying so much attention to the colors, and nothing to what it says and the equation.

It doesn't say "the next" metal gear, it says "a next" metal gear. It indicates multiples of "next."

I doubt it is about the title, but about the "metal gear" itself. Has everyone forgotten that the Metal Gear is actually the machine?

This equation is to show what _a_ next Metal Gear is. Not the game, but the machine.

So what do these parts of the equation mean? I take the first as "i" not and upside-down "!".

The second doesn't look too much like an "!" either, it is identical to the first. The exclamation point in MGS is boxy. But maybe it is a "!" who knows?

And nobody is trying to figure out the math. i + ! = strange symbol.

This symbol is a sum of the two parts.

Maybe the "i" is a personal pronoun, and "i" play as a metal gear! Maybe a next Metal Gear is a SkyNet type entity instead of a war machine. Cyber war or something.

It doesn't make too much sense to get too invested in any explanation because they'll tell us soon enough.

Well first off...since this is a "NEW METAL GEAR" it's not FUCKING METAL GEAR SOLID 4 which Hideo Kojima said he has finished on.

Secondly...the green isn't even green as the xbox 360. Turns out it's green as the color of the PS3 power button is, PSP power button is, and PS2 power button is.

Thirdly...WHY THE FUCK WOULD KONAMI make a strange cryptic equation just to say that MGS is coming to the xbox 360??? ARE YOU GUYS THAT MORONIC?!?!?! If it was coming out to the xbox 360 - they would say that alright we have a dev team making the port right now. BUT GUESS WHAT THEY'RE NOT!!! It's an entire new Metal GEAR - GET THE FUCK OVER IT YOU FUCKING MORONS.

Anyway...about the new metal gear. It's not a Metal Gear Solid - and I have a feeling we will all know what Metal Gear is this right when Solid Snake dies. He dies in 4 days from now - December 12. It could be another Metal Gear AC!D but then again no - because Hideo Kojima isn't working on this one and it's a whole new concept for the Metal Gear series.

So let's just wait and see...

Oh and also the universal power symbol at the end looks more like the old PS2 power symbol than a 360 symbol....god.

Could it mean something spanish = power for the next metal gear. Maybe it will have Spanish Snake in the next one, lol! just came to mind because in spanish class you always put a upside down i then the ! at the end. same with question marks. That much i learn in class.

maybe i is meaning 9 (ninth letter on keyboard) and i meaning 1 (same key) so 9th installment in series + 1 character (snake comes back) = power

No what I bet it's a stupid thing for new years. I bet any thing right now lol I just got to thinking about it and how they think over there. It's something dumb like that. The power symbol is really the ball droping and the I and the ! means has somehting to do with celebration.

Listen everyone....

It IS coming to the 360! How look at the image AGAIN. It is a math problem. It is soooo simple to figure out. The first symbole represents 180 degrees. If you flip/turn it up side down then you have moved it another 180 degrees. So.... 180 + 180 = 360 TA DA!

I think it could mean two things 1: the next metal "gear" is going to be some kind of villian from electronics or 2: that the next metal "gear" is going to become active in the form of an actual person.

Since i read the above comment that there will ,suppusdly, not be another metal gear I would guess that the i could either be as in I self or as it could be percieved as a player symbol (just think of it as more of a bowling pin type symbol). With the ! being there you would think the it being a metal gear game it would be meant as "discovered". And the last part the power on symbol...well it means powered on. So i believe that the next metal "gear" will be discoved either through electronics or within ones self. Well thats just my two cents.
