Rumor: We Go Home In Next 10 Days

Sony has insisted, time and time again, that the open beta for PlayStation Home will launch before 2008 is over. Well, if you hadn't noticed, that time is rapidly approaching, so all journalists and gamers everywhere are on pins and needles awaiting the announcement...

From the inside information that we have, which may or may not be bogus, we'd like to say we know for a "fact" that Home will release within the next two weeks. To reinforce this theory, it seems the Times Online UK website has said the open beta will launch within "the next 10 days," which is only slightly more specific than our two-week estimate. Knowing Sony, it'd be pointless to ask if either of these reports are accurate, primarily because the "we don't comment on rumor or speculation" reply is just plain irritating and we hate seeing it in our inbox. But here's some speculation for our valued readers: if you check your calendars, Christmas Day falls on a Thursday, which, coincidentally, is the typical day for PlayStation Store updates. In two weeks, it will be December 22, although if it falls within the 10-day spectrum, our theory is broken. But if we're only talking about semi-rough estimates, wouldn't it be a proper holiday gift from Sony to all PlayStation 3 owners to deliver the open Home beta on Thursday, December 25...? I mean, that sounds like good marketing to us, but then again, perhaps it's just a terrible idea.

If you have any ideas as to when we will see this open beta this month, feel free to let us know. But please do back it up with a reasonable theory; just tossing out, "bah, it'll never release" is a waste of a comment, no? ;)

I hope this is true, I'd really love to be able to
to see Home for myself soon.
I think a Christmas day release would be fun, but I think the week before Christmas seems to make more sense to me, just because how many people will want to go wander around in a virtual world on Christmas day? That just seems weird to me, but maybe some people will think that's just great. o_o

As Ben has stated a few times before, as well as others, including myself, I think you will see the enormous potential it has to offer CobraSalad, and I am sure you will enjoy what is therein at this stage... but 1-2 years down the road HOME will be very different I think, with a lot more to offer... not mention, a thriving virtual economy... you can bet on that!

I hope they start adding some cool features when the open beta starts. Like Ben has said, home is a great foundation with a lot of potential. But I am afraid that when everybody gets in, they will see it differently. They will sign into home and think that it is bare and boring. They are already upset about home taking so long to come out, then when it comes out, they dont like it.

I guess that is a worst case senario, but I fear it might happen.

Lets hope they have near innumerable servers. There will be an extreme amount of people logging on, and lag will somewhat hamper the experience if Sony isn't prepared.

I think that Sony will release the thing in December. And it will probably be plagued by massive bugs for at least 3 weeks. I hope to all hell Sony isn't dumb enough to release the 25th though. The servers are going to be swamped with everyone getting new games, and new systems as it is. We don't need several million people trying to download home to go with it. I'm thinking home will hit on December 18th.

chances are that whenever it releases, it will need numerous updates in the upcoming weeks for stability issues.....with that said, i rather they not ruin my Christmas by releasing it right on the 25th

my gut feeling is it will be on the 25th and then you can get a free download of "i'll be home for christmas" sung by frank sinatra or bing crosby or mariah carey or bill gates (!) or whoever... just hope they have the servers sorted out as they are going to be pushed to the max.

With all the new games people will get at Christmas, it'd be a bad day to release Home. Few people would even bother trying it out for a while since they'd have great games to play (08 being a no flop zone).
A week before Christmas would be best in my opinion. People are often looking for entertainment a little before Christmas in order to distract themselves from the wait. If Home could be that distraction then it could hook a lot of users.

Oh Sony said it will release Troy, its just a matter of when before the year is out. Yeah im very family oriented...wouldn't wanna be on a virtual life simulator on christmas. They should do it a few days befor OR after Christmas.

They rarely release updates with much notification, I'm sure this will be the same. If they are standing pat to a before 2009 release, I'm thinking they'll do it the week before Christmas. Although, the sooner they do it the more buzz they'll get so I'm hoping it's this week.

I hope they do it on Christmas day, purely and simply for the fact that im getting very little, if anything. I know this because I got my Christmas present early this year (£480 laptop XD) and so wont be getting much on the day itself. This would make a fantastic extra present on my behalf as it would give me something different to do on the day when everyone else are using their new gifts, I can be wondering around Home!!

I think that I will be erasing Home from my PS3's HDD.

I uses about XXXGB (I can't say anything, disclosure agreement) and I don't use it anymore. When I turn on my console it's to play games, not the spend time in some cyber space.

I've been in Home and there isn't anything that call my attention.

It's just my opinion... some enjoy the experience.

I'd rather see it drop the week before christmas. A christmas day release might end in a bit of bad publicity (especially from the sites that favor the 360) because Home will look more fun than spending time with the family :/

Im in the beta now and theres really not much going on, so it would be awesome if they opened it up soon.

home is awsome and well worth waiting for. just the thought of all the possibilities man is crazy. ive got a ton of ideas of things that i myself can do with home. i havent dont much in home lately though, i just got socom so ive bin spending a bunch of time on that. i have got the coolest sisters on the planet, they got me socom and didnt make me wait till christmas, i love them lol.

I bought a playstation to play games. Not wander round a virtual home buying furniture.
I was purely qualifying the home in the context of the 'hysteria' surrounding it.
It's a purely a skin – that’s all it is.

The difference between you and me is that I don't have to pretend I'm better than my peers in order to fabricate a false sense of self-worth. If you had merely voiced your own personal lack of interest, as opposed to insulting everyone else who feels differently than you, I wouldn't have bothered to say anything.

If you own a mirror, please look into it and ask yourself "Why do I feel the need to verbally berate those whose interests differ from my own? Why, when given a portion of anonymity, do I tend to default to 'douche' as opposed to 'polite, normal human?'"
