Level 5 Will Work Exclusively For Sony If WKC Is A Success?

Merely hours after we questioned Square-Enix's potential bias this generation, we've learned that PlayStation 3 owners may leap aboard another competent developer's bandwagon.

Many of our readers have already expressed complete faith in Level 5 this generation, as the highly anticipated White Knight Chronicles is high on the priority list for most RPG fans. In fact, some have come right out and said, "forget Square-Enix; we're siding with Level 5 this time." Well, you may have a point: the latest rumor says Level 5 has signed a deal with Sony, stating that if WKC is a commercial success, the developer will create games exclusively for PlayStation platforms. This rumor comes from European gaming site PS3 Life, although they're not indicating a specific source. We do know of several other developers - Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, etc. - who have similar deals with Sony, and that has led to exclusive franchises like Jak, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, and Resistance. Could Level 5 toss their lot in with Sony in the future? If this rumor is true, does this give you even more incentive to support WKC when it releases? Don't you want Level 5 exclusively on your side?

There's little doubt that White Knight Chronicles should be a great game, and if it also sells well, we might be able to look forward to many future Level 5 gems. Remember, the developer has frequently gone on record, praising the PS3's potential...perhaps it's time to solidify the relationship between developer and publisher!

Even before this i read about WKC n i loved every bit, this game was already a day one purchase for me. Unfortunately, with Sony's advertising this game might end up passing by silently,the way LBP did

Well, I was going to buy the game anyways... maybe I'll buy it twice!! :)

My best friend just got a PS3 and I can't wait to play the WKC's multiplayer quests with him. Without a doubt, this is THE game I am looking forward to for the PS3.

Sounds like Level 5 has realized that there is a need for someone to step up and fill the void left by Square-Enix' betrayal. Let's just hope that Sony figures out how to advertise this to use it to their advantage.

I don't know why people keep making this claim. I see WAY more PS3 (and PSP) commercials than I do 360 or even Wii commercials.

I counted the other day: four PS3 ads, three multiplatform (NOT identified as 360 only), and only one 360 ad and NO Wii ads. Those results are not atypical, though I would guess I see a slightly higher percentage of 360 ads on most days.

I'm in Canada, though I doubt that makes much difference as most of the shows I watch are on U.S. HD channels.

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 were a couple of my favorite games for the Playstation 2. It may be selfish to want to keep Level 5 for ourselves, but have you seen their studio? It's like... some crazy 5 star hotel mansion thing...

Anywho, It's up to us to give this game a warm welcome and not let it slip through the marketing cracks. Open your wallet. Give them what they need to succeed. They'll definitely return the favor.

It would be kinda nice...I've always depended on PS for my console RPGs, and so far, the well has been pretty dry. One-console devving RPGs really works best, imho, and I can't wait for WKC. I'm almost thru the ChronoTrigger remake...

Ben, we DO want Level-5 on our side, however I highly doubt they'll be turning their backs on all that NDS money. Still, regarding home consoles, we need to support this RPG 100%. Unless it's some terrible flop ... but that's not possible from these guys.

To all you pretending to be Squeenix haters, you'll all be first in line for FFXIII so quit it. Squeenix is good, they're just not the best anymore.

I'm not sure Level 5 will revolutionize RPGs like Square did but every game of theirs that I have played has been extremely enjoyable. I'm in the middle of Rogue Galaxy right now and it's no FFXII but is pretty amazing.

Off topic -- Anyone here ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga RPG for the Saturn? Sega needs to make a next gen version. It's probably the best rpg I've ever played. It would be perfect for the PS3. Damnit, Sega needs to revive their great rpg pedigree -- Shining series, Phantasy Star, etc. PS3 would be the right market for them.

The Phantasy Stars tho...I only tried Online for the Xbox, but quickly dropped it. And hope it doesn't come back

I still have my Saturn and the game! From the haunting music, amazing art style, innovative battle system this game was one of a kind. Besides FF3(FF6 in japan I believe) no other rpg has made me feel real sadness and joy while playing through a game.

Phantasy Star for the xbox was a pseudo mmo game that was great for the Dreamcast but it felt dated on the Xbox. It did revolutionize online gaming for consoles though. I was referring to the old Phantasy Star games on the Sega Master System.

Then I guess you've never played the older Shining or Phantasy Star games that were excellent. The Phantasy Star game on PS2 and Xbox was again like I said, a pseudo mmo that saw it's better days on the dreamcast. It wasn't fully story driven like the old rpg series back then. The Shining game on the PS2 was not the usual strategy rpg like the old Shining Force games or a dungeon crawler type rpg like Shining: The Holy Ark on the older Sega systems.

if this is true, i'll buy white knight chronicles on launch.
level5 is known for good RPGs and if they can make RPG games for playstation exclusively, i'll support them all the way.

sony needs more developers like lvl5 on their side to compete against the rising RPG developers that's siding with the xbox like mistwalker.

is sony working hard on first party RPG titles?

if sony fails to bring out good exclusive RPG on their platform by 09 or 10, i don't know what else to say to them. hopefully korean companies or apple bring out another console to compete against a ps4 or a xbox720.

I love Level 5.
After hearing the music (I like Level 5's tunes xD) and seeing the multiplayer, White Knight Chronicles was immediately on my watch list (ok I was joking, it's on my must have RPG list besides Final Fantasy :P).

I think they should be promoted to Level 6. I'm certain they've accumulated enough Exp points.

See what video of the game you can find. There's an impressive gameplay video from TWO YEARS AGO on the internet, but I don't think there is anything else gameplay-wise. And even thought it's a two year old video, it still impresses.

Actually, that video is the main reason I bought a PS3. I saw it and thought "I need to have this game the day it comes out..."

Yeah, I don't normally do things like that, but it gives you an idea of how impressed I was by White Knight. Obviously there were other reasons for me to get a PS3 (Final Fantasy, Home, Oblivion, my roommate buying an HDTV, etc) but White Knight Chronicles was the icing on the cake of my indecision.

The fact that I was already in love with Level 5 helped me make the decision as well. If it had been anyone else developing I would not have been so sure that the game would be great.

I pretty much got my PS3 just because I wanna' see the look on my friend's faces when they realize it's a better system in the end xD. And to play games from Level 5 and sequels to the old PS2 classics (so many good memories and feelings xD). Not so much Square-Enix anymore, grrr. Still awaiting those pure Sony games from them :/
