Capcom's Mysterious Kijuju Message

"It came from Kijuju."

As some of our readers are finding out, a cryptic e-mail from Capcom has sparked plenty of discussion around the Internet. You will even find a banner ad for the mysterious "Kijuju" on our site, but contrary to popular belief, that doesn't mean we have secret inside information. All we know is that Kijuju is the African town in Resident Evil 5 and the link in the freaky e-mail - which features the sentence "It came from Kijuju" written out 100 times - sends you to this website, where you can discover a variety of different passages if you move the candle around. Gamer 2.0 has already found them all and they are as follows:

  • Wesker is a liar!
  • Progenitor Virus
  • Sheva knew
  • they are they are they are
  • they are in Kijuju
  • Seashell is evil
  • The Kennedy Report
  • Raccoon City wasnt the end
  • Majini
  • Where is Ozwell
  • Flashbacks cant stop them
  • Las Plagas
  • Uroboros
  • pg67a/w

Some of these may mean something; others may mean nothing. We're assuming this is just more PR for RE5, although there may be a significant hidden meaning behind this mysterious marketing campaign. Perhaps Capcom will take the lid of this "Kijuju" insanity before the year is out... Then again, perhaps there isn't much to talk about, and this is just a little teaser to keep you on the edge of your seat for next year's survival/horror extravaganza. Who knows?

"they are they are they are" -hyping the game. It needs to stand out from SH: Homecoming, Dead Space, and Left 4 Dead all being so close together, so an esoteric PR campaign is going to be required even if the RE name should be enough to sell it anyhow.

Of course it will be, but then again I didn't really find Deadspace to be a true horror game, it seemed way more action-packed to me, didn't find much horror from it, like FEAR or Siren, but that's my opinion. But who knows, Resident Evil has been moving to the action-oriented side more and more with each game it seems so I don't know =\ I wonder if true horror games are coming to a close. But either way, can't wait for this game =)

Being honest FEAR scared the crap outta me. But then again I like to play horror games in the dark in the middle of the night with BOSE rockin' head phones!!!

Then again, it could of been the motion sickness I got too...

i guess you never played that gamer that capcom made that was all action, no horror at all, not one bit. It was a really fun game, it was called Resident Evil 4...

Not sure which game you're talking about but I'm pretty sure Dead Space and RE5 were/are devved on both systems, not ported from one to another.

RE 5 isn't a port at all, if that's what you mean. I'm pretty sure it was built from the ground up for both consoles. Even if it was a port, there's no evidence pointing to one console being better than the other. It's been repeatedly said that both version are virtually identical.

I'll be able to tell the difference on my Big FHDTV, because even Resistance 2 had some minor issues :(

i think that metal gear image is their way of telling us that the new metal gear game is now officially in the works and got the green lite.

HEY! If you look, there are numbers on the site. If you click on the number 1 (far to the left) and type in "Refinery" you see a new video! (Live action-post Kijuju) Also, the more the video is shared the more content will be released. There is also a new gameplay trailer, but you have to share the post-Kijuju video with 5 people to unlock it. If you don't want to go through all of that (I find that Capcom's website is a little slow but it might just be my internet) just go to Youtube, both videos are up there now.

well, the Uroboros (or Ouroboros) is the tail-eating snake, and represents Cyclicality and self reflection, or that once something ends, something new must take it's place.

I'm not familiar with ResE Canon and story, but maybe an enthusiast will be able to figure it out =D

This is true! Can you name the famed scientist who was inspired by a dream of this symbol to later discover the chemical structure of certain cyclic compound?

I don't know about Resident Evil 5 being better than DeadSpace, but it surely is going to sell like hotcakes, and make everyone who has a PS3 broke LOL!

In one way it is...Dead Space is only "scary" because things constantly jump out at you. RE series is only "scary" because of its controls. And the controls in RE are much scarier than anything that has ever jumped out at me.

lol Joe. At least the controls are getting better. RE 4's control switch was very good I thought. Although I never had any problem with the old controls either.

I haven't played any of the RE's, but ofcourse DeadSpace was only scary because things "jump out at you". That's where the game's genius shows, through its simple design.

Really, I think the line has become blurred between "survival/horror" and "action/adventure." Back in the days of Alone in the Dark and the original Resident Evil, it seemed more of a straightforward separation. These days...I think it's tough to label Dead Space either way, but then again, the same must be said of Resident Evil 4. Essentially, it uses the same gameplay mechanic, so either both are survival/horror or both are action...

Well, so long as it's good, I suppose I don't care one way or the other. ;)

True. RE 4 in my opinion was more action than horror. The only actually scary part was the regenerators(and escorting Ashley around of course.) But remember that the "thematics" of RE1 are supposed to be brought back in 5. Hell, for me all they'd have to do is put in an eerie mansion hallway lined with windows through which a zombie dog will crash through as you pass it. Now THAT was scary.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth= best survival/horror ever. Though I think it only hit the old xbox.

I think it's a square/rectangle kind of thing (you know, a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn't always a square), insomuch as the line so much hasn't been blurred as survival/horror is starting to redefine itself as a sub-genre of action adventure.

a bit pedantic, but still clarification is nice ^_^

Uroboros is a new album by a Japanese band called Dir En Grey. That *could* be a reference to them, maybe supplying a title track or something. Just an idea...

i think since this is post RE5 and from the kijuju live action trailer that chris is infected which explains the flash backs like leon had and that the sheva knew part is maybe sheva knew chris got infected but couldnt bring herself to "stoping his infection" and if lightshow is right about Uroboros being self reflecting thenmaybe that could be chris relizing what happened
