Home Sporadically Hitting Major Territories Throughout The Day

Well, unless you live in a cave, you've heard that the open beta for PlayStation Home launches today. However, many of you have the same exact question on your minds, "exactly when will I see it?"

We may not know "exactly" when you'll see Home, but some people already have it while others are still waiting. European users seem to be waiting the longest, but there's an update from PS3 Fanboy: The client has been patched to version 1.03 and UK users can expect Home to go live "early PM UK" time, and when it's ready to go, it will appear on the XMB "as soon as the final switch is pulled." Of course, you can't just sit there staring at the screen; you'll have to restart to gain access once everything is set to go. Now, we're aware it's past "early PM" in the UK, so we'll be interested to hear if any of our Euro readers have Home already. Home moderator TedTheDog wouldn't venture a guess as to "how long it will take for each region to verify its elements are working," but we'll start that process right now: which of you have Home, and when did you get it?

For our part, we were in the closed beta test so we've already tooled around in Home for a little while. We also know we want a PSX Extreme-themed Home space, although we're not entirely sure how we'll go about it just yet. That's something to think about for the future, and if our readers have ideas on that, feel free to let us know. We may even give certain people administrative rights to keep our pad appropriately decorated and up-to-date when we don't have the time to get in there. But these are all just thoughts for now. :)

As anyone who has seen my posts before knows, I wasn't overly excited about home....until I saw the Red Bull air racing trailer. If they put more mini games like that in there, I'm going to be spending some time in in home. I could care less about the shopping and decorating and running around trying to find someone to talk to. If they put a bunch of quality games in there then count me in!

Some suggestions for games on my part? R/C racing track, a paint ball arena where avatars can have battles, A real racing track/off road racing? If they're short little games that are well made then I'll join in.

A real space would be better than a club though; with only 32 being a part of a club, for a site like this that's a small number, you could go with separate chapters of the club but that can get confusing and then you have to keep track of like 500 PSX clubs. A space for everyone to visit would be the optimum plus good advertising for the site.
Get the word out that PSX is the best site for gaming news.

I AM getting very p off now not even for home i cant sign in 2 psn 2 play cod if home is going to f up the network i dont want it. just keeps getting worse my left analog stick is starting 2 stick 3rd controller that did that. IF i dont get tree later its over lol despite all of this i will never go back 2 microsoft i had 1st xbox bought 3 times last time i bought had defected power cord made the xbox fry inside a least sony never almost killed me lol when called microsoft when that happen all thay could say was dont try to play no sh** lol.1 good thing today is my day off work

Nothing in the UK. Store's down and every now and then the PSN goes aswell. Thanks for the article though, I've been sat here waiting to get onto the store for it, I didn't realise that it'll appear when i turn my console on (and it's ready of course). I'll post again when it's working...

I figured we'd be looking at total PSN destruction within 6 hours of Home landing. Looks like it was more like -6 hours. wow. I'll be checking in just a couple minutes.

About the Home space: I think that there is no conveinant way of pulling off a whole space. The clubs only allow 32 (which would be a great idea for active forum members, but there are over a hundred active commenters). I'm sure Sony charges extremely high sponsoring fees for a whole space, but I obviously wouldn't know for sure, try contacting Sony's Home management team. Right now I think the best we could do is a small club and/or organized meetings in a common space a few times a week. Ben: Just so you know I'm willing to help with management of a club or space, whatever we end up doing.

It's funny to see how the xbox fanboys get all upset over the release of home beta and complain about it.How NXE is better than home.Well being in the closed beta myself and having no choice but to download the NXE(just to be able to download my x360 games to the HDD)I think home is better for social interaction and meeting new people online then xboxlive.The only way to meet new people on xboxlive is to have the game they have,where home its possible to make future purchases of games together.Home will forever will be changing and improving.As of the 26th I will not be renewing my xboxlive account.All the multiplatform games i own are on the PS3.The only game I played on the x360 was Gears and Gears 1.5 was a hugh dissapontment to me,Cliffy B made it more geared for the n00bs.I'm just ranting I know But with the release of home beta to the masses I think its time to leave xboxlive.Home is where it's at.Bring on KZ2!

The comparison of Home and NXE are stupid. The NXE makes interacting with people who are already their friends. Home is designed to do that AND facilitate interaction between strangers. Home is a fully new world while the NXE is primarily a new interface (designed to be more like XMB BTW) with new features (some great others not so much) to sweeten the deal.

Me again, the UK has Home!!!!! Don't worry Timmy, what it does is appears on your XMB when becomes available in your region. You just need to keep turning your PS3 on every 15 minutes or so to check 'cos it won't appear if your consoles on. I'm downloading :)

I got on a bit after my previous post. I just closed Home completely and re-opened it. I wish they would take some customization away from the facial area, and more the clothing/hairstyle area...

was a big home fan but now it can blow me. the monitary system for open home is just that. MONEY. actual cash. not trophies but actual wallet money. THANKS BUT NO THANKS. SONY. u just lost a home fan (maybe a lot of home fans) and i just gained back about 3 and a half gigs of my hdd. good thing i did all that beta testing for you from the beginning and sent you all that feedback. if i wanted to pay 4 everything i do, id own a CRAPBOX 360. but i now have a (PAYSTATION) .so in closing, thanks again SONY 4 the horrible let down. sincerely 1 pissed ps3 owner

CONGRATULATIONS! you did all that testing and somehow didn't know stuff was going to cost money? Are you deft or don't you pay attention? It was clear from DAY 1 that home was a free service with microtransactions to help pay for it. If you were somehow unaware of this I'm glad you're disappointed.

And just for future reference stupid console nicknames (ie: crapbox, paystation) or spelling MS or Sony with a $ are not cute, original, funny, clever, ironic, etc. They are stupid. They make you look dumb, your comment look even dumber, and makes the entire site look dumb.

I'm in Los Angeles CA & the Home Icon showed up for me at around 1:30pm PST and the Playstation Store has been working for me all along. I installed Home but have been unable to get in as just like some have said above mine keeps timing out. I guess I will have to try later.

Also I just checked the Store and the US Playstaion Store has been updated with the new stuff.

i got it now. but it won't work at all for me. it's so sad. i'm also completely disgusted that i didn't get the beta in the first place. my friends that have had their ps3s for about a month got it, i have had mine for a little under 2 years and sony didn't even recognize my existence.

I'm currently downloading but I have zero faith that I'll actually be able to use home today. Maybe next week. lol. I honestly will be surprised if it is even the least bit stable by New Years. I can see them getting it working this weekend, then getting it too run smoothly a week later, and then being slammed back into internet hell on Christmas.

Where in there were you lamenting over the new users? You...YOU...were whining not making some grand statement for the user base as a whole. So please don't pretend that you were.

I do agree however that the money aspect will come as a minor surprise to some, but those will be the same people that see that new icon this weekend and say, "Home? WTF is this? Can I eat it?" Even on this site Ben posted about how people were afraid of PSN becoming a tiered system the way Live is. Because there IS money being exchanged in Home, is that a precursor to a straight up subscription fee?

As far as trophies as a currency... they were never going to replace cash-money they were just going to give you a couple virtual dollar and cents to trick out your fake apartment. The service is free but SOMEONE has to pay for it. Honestly we'll be lucky if Sony can keep Home up and running on micro transactions and advertising dollars alone.

Home is pretty freaking cool and so far I had no problems what-so-ever.

OFF TOPIC : I just seen the NPD numbers for November they are horrific. The PS3 got CRUSHED. Based on that one month I give the PS3 an extra 4 months to catch up with the XBOX 360 and a little over a year for the Wii. Damn

PS3 will never catch up to the wii. Unless they suddenly release a Wii2 in February and discontinue the wii. Then PS3 may catch up by march... of 2016

No the button really does just appear. I guess the physical code for the button has been in the software for awhile. Just look underneath the PSN section of the XMB the button should be right above the store button.
