No DLC For Call Of Duty 4

Perhaps you're one of those Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare fanatics that absolutely refuse to play another FPS. Maybe you've been waiting all this time for more downloadable content, like extra map packs. Well, don't hold your breath.

According to Gamer Limit, Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling has confirmed that the team is looking forward to the future, and won't bother with DLC for CoD4. He says they'd rather focus fully on their new project(s), which likely includes the new Call of Duty, as Treyarch has already taken their turn with World at War. But you had best be happy with what you get out of the box with CoD4 because, despite the common trend of popular titles (especially FPSs) receiving downloadable content, Infinity Ward is leaving the past in the past. Said Bowling:

"If you include [the maps] out of box (shipped with game for no extra cost) then it's just ignored and people demand more. If you instead, decide to get the game out and then worry about beefing up the map selection via DLC, people say ... 'this should have been included in the shipped game.'"

You know, we have to agree. You can't please everyone and sometimes, you just can't please anyone. He makes a valid point, and in all honesty, it's lose-lose from a variety of different perspectives. Obviously, people have already gotten used to seeing new content for their favorite games as a matter of course, so we're sure disappointment will be a common reaction. But damn, isn't CoD4's excellent inherent quality enough for you? There was a time where we had to be satisfied with the product; it was the be-all, end-all. So don't be so spoiled. ;)

Catch 22 huh? I'm not a big fan of DLC anyway, I'm just happy Infinity Ward is back at the helm and they can just work on the new installment. No one complained when expansion packs for DOOM were sold, buncha greedy motherfu...

I feel similarly... after wasting money on the new maps, and hardly playing on them I am not motivated to spend more in DLC... I may, I may buy DLC for Zillzone 2 simply because the product is so superb, any map add ons - with the graphics that are being thrown around - would probably be worth it!

I thought COD4 was perfection. Everything handled as tight as (assuming) a Ferrari. I agree on the DLC that it should never feel like we were duped into buyin even MORE than what we initially expected. The Maps on there are perfect as well. Every spot has its counter points and not too much respawn deaths as other FPS's.

Lookin Forward to the Next installment.

All the games can't be like Burnout Paradise, most of them eventually stop dishing out DLC ^_^

And I've always been a Battlefield Vet myself. BFBC FTW!

There is a big diff between expansion packs and extra maps. But FPS is still a somewhat "young" genre overall, particularly on consoles. I personally don't every buy maps for games. I'm still used to getting all the maps you could want for free online becuase games came with map editors.

But good on Infinity Ward...Sort of. The problem with putting too many maps on the disc is that particular maps have specific benefits for specific gametypes.

After that's all figured out, the rest of the maps are cast aside. And then those most frequently played maps get tiring and we need something new.

But then again, rarely does a game's multiplayer actually stay popular for more than a year, mainly because they're so similar.

Plus, I really want Infinity Ward's next effort. Haven't played WaW yet (its on the way), but CoD3 didn't hold a candle to CoD2. They really are the gold standard and I can't wait to see what they have next.

The only map pack they released for it was horrendous. Every time I joined a game with Chinatown, Broadcast or Creek I just moaned about it.

However, it was still worth it. The map killhouse was excellent. you could do 1v1's on it, mess around with your friends and have small team games on it.

I'm not surprised they're not releasing anymore. They're working on COD6:MW2. I don't recall them releasing DLC for COD2 when they started working on COD4

The only map I thoroughly enjoyed was Broadcast, I only liked Creek when I was with rubbish players :P Killhouse was fun with friends and Chinatown was a bit meh...

I got them for free with the game though so I'm not bothered :)

I just saw Killzone 2 game play video Episode 18 and my mouth fell open. This particular sequence shows the player tearing a building apart with a heavy machine gun... it was unbelievable...

I am going to punt that I think PSXExtreme is lining up a 10 for this game... it is just superb, there are no words to describe what they have done with the visuals...

The PS3 may have legs yet!

In a way that's good to hear. Because they are putting more time into making COD6. Can't wait to see how that will look.

i dont download new content much. personally sometimes i think its just an excuse for devemopers to give us less than they initially wanted so they can meet a deadline. if we get expansion packs like halo3 is getting then id deffinately buy them more often.
