I took advantage of this by making a girl character, standing around waiting for a dumbass to harass me, and then going into my wardrobe and *poof* turning into a hideous, disfigured, beast of a man and yelling, "IT'S A TRAP!" They always run away and I get a good laugh out of it.

There's no stopping them so might as well have a little fun with it.

Yeah folks should grow up.The first night I was on home I was talking to a girl just havin fun then poof some little bastard walked up to the girl made the avatars look like they were makin out then says I love you 2 her.She was 19 and asked him how old he was.Naturally he said 19.She then proceeded to tell him he ws full of shit.Which I told him he was full of it too.Then I gave him a taste of his own medicine I walked around harassing him for the next 20 minutes lol.

Seriously is this really news? If you've played any type of mmo, female avatars will always get some type of attention. It will always happen. I guess I'm just amazed at how some of you guys are shocked at seeing this. It's been happening for years and the PS3 community will not be different.

Wait what? You think that because it's PS3 owners, they automatically are held at a higher standard? It's probably true PS3 generally has an older and most probably a more mature audience. That does not make it immune to harassment. You put too much faith in people. Btw, this is nothing compared to what you will sometimes see in games like World of Warcraft. The funny thing is that it's not always harassment, it's sometimes consenting females/males. Welcome to persistent online worlds/communities.

I like that you're very idealistic but there is a difference of what most of these harassers would do online as opposed to the real world. They may have online courage but they're not about to go shoot people in real life. There's a way smaller percentage of psychos that would actually do real harm in person. I'm not disagreeing that it would be better if this type of thing was not going on. I'm just saying that this type of stuff will happen online and it most probably will continue.

An IP ban is not ideal. The users can just force a new IP from their ISP and then you end up blocked the next poor soul who gets that IP.

Specific PS3 blocking is the best solution but even then some people have multiple PS3s or they could sell them to buy another used one for around the same price which means the next soul who buys that PS3 gets banned.

There is no full proof way to block someone but PS3 blocking is the closest we could get. I doubt sony would implement that kind of blocking though. PSN blocking is probably as far as they would go which is not that useful.

I really couldnt believe how much this went on in the closed beta (STILL cant got on and havent seen the open beta). I seen alot of the same stuff in that video. Kind of makes me think about that scene in Anaconda (2 I believe) where all the snakes are in that giant mating ball at the bottom of that pit. Its very sad. See then saying thing like "whats up hottie" or "ya shake that ass". I had one guy get mad at me cause I was making jokes and the girl he was hitting on was laughing talkin me and not him. Told me he was gonna dip my balls in acid. Its funny being threatened ON A COMPUTER by someone who dont even live in the same country as me.

Sony should figure out a way to have moderators standing around to perma-ban these people.

Banning the idiots will increase the quality of HOME, and that should be the goal.

The goal shouldn't be "we gotta have as many people in here as possible, even if they're idiots."

For now blocking people is the best thing.

LOL some dude in one of the Uncharted rooms walked up to me and started ripping on my clothes. He said, "where did u get ur clothez? Teh flea market?" Kids use to say that to me in school and it was understandable (I wear cheap ass clothes) but on Home?!

You're right Ben, and it's worse than that also, it has repercussions.

You can't talk to female gamers without people thinking you like her or want to e-date her.

You can't have a conversation with a female gamer without being interupted by a group of males doing something ridiculous.

And alot of the female gamers i know say they won't waste their time talking to people because half of the time they turn out to be sexually frustrated teenagers or lonely adults seeking love.

On the bright side, the HOME team are working on solutions. They are frequently in contact with the European gamers on the EU playstation forums and TedtheDog and other sony staff ensure us they are coming up with improved solutions to tackle these issues.

Sadly though, this will always be a part of home, they can only reduce it so much, but it will always be a presence in Home.

The big danger i see here is that this could bring censorship. So ways of dealing with it without censorship are needed.
As others have suggested, males using female avatars often helps. These childish types will think twice before approaching an avatar that may be male. Once it's been established to everyone that a female avatar doesn't necessarily mean a female user, most of this will die down.
Also, please speak up and protect other users if you see this happening. Bringing the people in the community together will deter much of the abuse.

The thing i found funny about this was the link to the video. In the video the guy at one point says "i'm not gay". Ummm if he's not gay he sure got the voice and language down, and you could even hear snapping in the backround of the video.

For someone who claims they are not gay, this person sure got it down exactly how the feminine gays act.

The thing is, some of these females are they stereotypical 14 year old emo kids, they just sit there and cry about how unfair life is and how they 'can't go on'..... then you actually get guys trying to flirt, are people that starved of females that they have to flirt at every sign.

Come on guys, PLEASE grow up. Since being on home, i have had my female friends complain of guys crowding the first female they see and ganging them to where they're scared to sign onto Home.
Sure there are some cool guys who come on to discuss game topics etc, but ive only seen guys using this as a dating site or fast hook up. Not to mention who can talk the most trash in a "thuggish" way. We already know that not everyone talks that way 24/7 even if you are a thug (wannabe).
I've seen racial people, sexists, pedofiles, and even 12 yr olds trying to hook up with my female friend that's married and almost 40 yrs old. If you're a guy, please don't create a female avatar and act like girls unless thats a deep fantasy issue of yours. Lets just keep that one in the closet ok? That one is just real immature to pretend to be someone else you're not.
Granted it's not just guys but some girls come on here to hook up also or just to mess around with the guys. I've already had the chance to witness it first hand. Be careful guys, some of these girls ARE underage and will get you in trouble. It's not a dating site, its a game community.

This was all very expected. I seem to be the oldest guy around there (28) but maybe they lie about age.
For the most part I was actualy surprised that idiots were infrequent. Also, guys didnt want to really talk to me as a male character so I switched to female. I get hit on and I say 'dude Im a guy'. They reply, 'man, you're gay'. Then I tell them that 'I am'. And I ask them if they are as well. They end up running. Easy to get rid of little kids like that.
But for the most part I met some friendly people and discussed books, games, movies... and we even had some Soul Calibur battles after.
Community isnt withouts its flaws but its better than I expected.

The people that do this annoy me so much. Either that or they make me laugh, 'cos when i see a male avatar saying "Oi oi sexy" or something similar, I just have to laugh 'cos it's a virtual person they find attractive, which is just wierd. Granted, you can meet and have a very healthy friendship on the network. I myself have met one of my ex-girlfriends on R:FoM and we are still friends, and that was a year a go.

This needs to be stopped pretty quick it was going on in the closed beta and it is getting worse, and I really think it could hurt the PS3 badly if Sony doesn't do something quick. I mean I would not buy a PS3 for my 13-16 year old if I knew this was going on and I am sure a lot of parents will feel that way. I am not a parent mind you I am just saying that would be my knee jerk reaction as most parents only follow the bad news and let the press and media sway everything they do.

I was on Home the other night and some lad walked up to me said hello nice and polite I replied back hello nice enough. I was sitting down playing the bowling. Now inbetween this me and this lad were chatting etc, he lived locally by me (Birkenhead) I am from Liverpool, we got chatting he asked me where abouts in Liverpool I replied Bootle. Out of nowhere this girl who was sitting with us (if she was a girl) said Bootle Sux! I was like wtf. So I replied "Excuse me do you even know Bootle plus the fact I wasn't even talking to you lol." The guy ended up walking off. There are a few idiots on there but from what I can see it is mainly lads saying stuff to the females.
Something needs to be done but you get idiots everywhere.

Least on here they can be controlled and end up banned etc if they keep on.

I'm a ps3 owner and i'm a girl at that. This is my frist time on this an I say this post about Home. An I'm one of a 1000 girls on there that get hit on an bug alote. Etc. Bowling. When i'm trying 2 play a game with friends an a guy or 2 come up to me an sets right at me. Or the pop body in my way. I get over 100 invite when I get on. So I know how girls feel about this. It's not going to make me stop playing home. BC I love games. An that what this is a game for ppl that want to get away from rl. So let just have fun.

So far I've only met one female in Home who was definitely a female. She sat down right next to me and my friends, but her headset wasn't working properly, so it was impossible to understand her. So... we sort of just ignored her like we would a guy. She didn't go away, so finally I typed "Do you need something?" to which she responded over her headset "This is awkward..." and left...

Of course, we all heard THAT clear as day.

Ok I`ll admit I messed around a few female avatars one night, I was bored so I stood behind them and danced making it out that I was taking them from behind and I kept following them for a bit of fun, I`ve seen a few people asking for their a/s/l and I just walked away and ignored them. Most of the time I`m just walking around or playing on the games and I will not be harrassing(sp)anyone. I haven`t seen anyone actually harass or insult them if I do I`ll probably intervene and tell them to stop it.

I wondered when this article would show up. The first thing I noticed on home was a massive bunch of people all clung together..so naturally I walked over for a look.One female avatar.I walked around her four times looking to find whatever it was that was so cool.

Then it clicked.How sad do people actually have to be to follow around an AVATAR? Ive only managed to get into home twice.I keep gewting a server timed out error but I like home for what it is...or what I think it can be in time. I just dont see why it took so long to release as it is now.

I can't honestly say that this surprises me. I wonder just how many female gamers have a male avatar just to avoid this sort of thing. Whenever I meet a girl in any online game, I tend to treat her with respect and dignity, because they put up with so much more crap by being openly female. I've formed parties with a few, just to hear the reactions of trash-talking punks when I told them I was her boyfriend. It can be quite funny sometimes.

Why can't Sony have Police Officers in Home? Every Girl that I know has a MySpace account and the few out there that own a PS3 (or plan to get one) would be thrilled if they discovered Home. But if they have a bad experience with it then they will stop playing (and also tell their friends not to try Home). They need to be treated fairly like everyone else. Heck, Sony doesn't even have to have police in Home. Instead, they could just supervise all the conversations in Home (like how the government listens to all the calls in North America to arrest and prevent terrorist attachs). When sony finds troublemakers on the network, they could just give them warnings and after a few warnings they could just automatically ban people from Home.

Myspace Chatroom? Heelzzzz No, And ugh I was on last night, In the movie theater, (So many replays but love paramore music :P ) And a female starts Talking to me, Saying she's so high, Which made me laugh, Then of course, Theres other people that pop right up to do a dance right in front of you, Implying sexual things, Which ugh...Annoys me, Then a worse part is, A guy, Using a female avatar did it to me! :| It annoyed the Shite out of me, Sorry for randomly Ranting but...Just had to tell my story to show why i cant wait till they do something about this!

I've been harassed ever since the first time I turned on Home. It's so hard to even move, and they run after you. Yelling at you, and calling you a guy with a female avatar until you send them links to your Facebook/Myspace. Telling you to follow them, and sending you so many messages that your system starts to lag.

...I think I'm just going to turn my little self into a guy on Home and be done with all of this.
