SCEA Officially Reveals God Of War III
If you tuned into the SpikeTV Video Game Awards last night, you were lucky enough to see the teaser trailer for God of War III - which we will have for you this week - and you likely wanted more details on SCEA's new action slash-fest.
Thankfully, SCEA issued a press release this morning, officially unveiling GoWIII for PlayStation 3 owners. They mention the game's "groundbreaking depth of scale that is four times larger than its predecessor" on the PS2 (God of War II), and the team will implement an entirely new game engine built "from the ground up" along with an "elaborate plot." The premise has Kratos working his way through Mt. Olympus and even Hell in order to wreak his terrible vengeance on those who have betrayed him, and yes, those double-chained blades will be back in full force. "Intricate puzzles" make their return as well, and SCEA reemphasized those stunning visuals that everyone has been raving about.
"With texture resolutions being quadrupled since God of War II, God of War III will feature fluid, life-like characters, as well as dynamic lighting effects, a robust weapon system, and world-changing scenarios that will truly bring unmistakable realism to Kratos' fateful quest. Players will have a chance to join battles on a grand scale with many more enemies on-screen and be able to interact with levels like never before."
Game Director Stig Asmussen said the team realizes they "have large shoes to fill" after previous GoW installments, but he "guarantees" that GoW fans will get exactly what they've been waiting for "and much more." The only bad news? They say this will be the "final chapter in the epic series," so that's kinda disappointing...just a trilogy? No GoWX? Anyway, the release further reminded us of all the critical acclaim this franchise has received; "key publications" including OPM, Game Informer, IGN, EGM, GamSpot, GamePro, GameDaily, and yes, even good ol' PSX Extreme (we gave God of War II co-Game of the Year along with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune in 2007) were on the list. So yes, God of War III is indeed coming...although we still don't have a release date just yet. Stay tuned for more.

Another cool thing is at 00:25 there are no less than 2 dozen enemies on screen.
The best part about the trailer is...I think it takes place on the Titan, Gaias back!!
00:16 to 00:18 you Kratos is on the back of a cyclops and there are trees in the background (just like on Gaia's back) and the whole screen shifts and the cyclops starts to fall.
00:19 to 00:21 there is definitely a sideways tree. A cyclops is hanging on for dear life. Kratos is on top of the cyclops' head, blade firmly planted in it's eye. Kratos jumps off and grabs onto some winged beast.
I am so ******* excited for this masterpiece.
