Kojima Talks About MGS Feature Film

Everybody wants to hear more about the next Metal Gear, but perhaps you've forgotten about that Metal Gear Solid movie that continues to be on the radar for most gamers and industry journalists. It was just a rumor, but it appears the film is indeed on the way.

Movie-based website Collider caught up with Hideo Kojima at the Video Game Awards last night, and we you can see the full interview here. Kojima remains one of the greatest minds in gaming, and to have him lending his considerable ability and weight to a major motion picture based on his legendary series is most appealing. Collider wanted to know the role Kojima would be playing in the production of the film, and while Kojima himself won't be directing (makes sense), he most certainly will be a major part of the proceedings. And while he said things are moving along very slowly right now, we expect to see more progress made in 2009, and we're really hoping that Kojima has his hand in just about every facet of the movie's development. This is one time where the movie absolutely cannot fail the fans, and that's just because this is one of the most revered and beloved franchises in video game history, so they just can't mess up this game-to-movie conversion.

So, how does this news strike you? Even if Hollywood wanted to wreck another video game in its adaptation to the big screen, do you think that Kojima's presence will halt the flow of stupidity? He's a renowned perfectionist, so he'd never let a piece of junk ruin the good name of MGS. Also, what do you think of the idea of a game based on the movie? Damn, that'd be a game based on a movie based on a game... Freaky.

It's funny, cause we don't really need a MGS movie. The game itself has enough cut scenes. It already felt like a movie.

personally the mgs series was the best series i have ever played in my life, what series would you guys prefer over metal gear solid?
the story was so well put together that you would think they had all the parts planned out before they even made the first game. if all game creators were like this the gaming world would be amazing but hey theres still time

"a game based on a movie based on a game" didn't we have a Street Fighter II:The Movie:The Game?

Anyway, movies about our fave games is always a tense thing. We want one, but no one seems able to do it properly because someone just buys up the rights, with Kojima there then a game designer will be present for once. If anyone can do it, he can.

I wonder how the auditions would go... if I was the casting director I would just make everyone say "Metal Gear?!" in a deep growl.

Sadly he won't be completely in charge.....
Hollywood will find a way of making it the way they want it....sadly.

not wanting to be a prophet of doom but surely any film studio that produces the film will want the game to go multi-platform. or? i'm guessing they'll want as much exposure as possible for the film and more bucks to line their wallets....

Hmmm... i reckon the movie will be less successful than the game, we'll have to wait and see.

If it was the best movie ever it stil won't be as good as the games, thats how great the MGS franchise is.

I'd love the film to be in cgi. Cgi is so popular these days, so it won't flop because of the style its in.

Kurt Russell as Snake would be awsome. And Snake was based on his character in Escape From New York so wouldn't it be logical...?

Please, Please, Let it be CG Rendered. If its live action, it absolutly will be horrible. Nothing ever comes good out of Hollywood! Let the masterminds behind the game create the movie, and let it be Animated like the game.
For example ALL the Final Fantasy movies to date are CG Rendered. (Spirits Within, and Advent Children) If those would have been live action...I don't even want to think about it.

I absolutely agree with you camaro!
If they ever tried to make the movie same as Hollywood crap it would just seem awfully weird, and we don't want that!

Let it be CG rendered.

I concurr, it should be CG

If Kojima says its gonna be good, i trust him. If he gets the boot cuz the studio wants to make more money, kojima's gonna be pissed and vocal about it, and THEN it'll be a flop

I have just started playing MGS4 again lol, hopefully the movie will be based on all 4 they may just do it on one and then if it does brilliantly they have 3 more in the making then or at least a sequel anyway.
