PS3 Video Blowout: VGA Premiers, Final Fantasy Drops Jaws
As most of our loyal readers know, we typically update our video section once a week, but this particular update is special for several reasons.
First of all, we have no less than 8 World Premier videos taken directly from their debut on SpikeTV's Video Game Awards. This includes first looks at the likes of God of War III, Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and the recently announced Dante's Inferno. Although most of these are brief, many are quite promising and succeed in jacking our excitement level through the roof. Make sure you watch 'em all and when you're done, you need to move on to the two DKS3713 trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
Look, we've all had our issues with Square-Enix over the past few years, and PlayStation 3 owners are none too happy with their business practices thus far this generation. But we absolutely promise you that all will be forgiven once you drink in the aforementioned trailers. They are quite lengthy, and without any doubt, they're the most drop-dead gorgeous videos we've seen to date. This is why the wait for both titles will be well worth it, and we are now fully convinced that FFXIII will be the definitive role-playing experience of the generation. It will be to the PS3 what FFXII was to the PS2, and to be perfectly honest, we also believe it will not look quite as good on the Xbox 360. Remember, S-E has already said they won't even start work on the 360 version until the PS3 version is done and complete; they built the White Engine from the ground up with Sony's machine in mind. Hence, the 360 version will need about 4 or 5 DVDs and likely won't look as good as the one high-def Blu-Ray version on the PS3.
Just trust us on this one: you can't miss the Final Fantasy trailers in question. Versus looks downright amazing, too. All these videos mentioned here will make your day, we promise!

13 seems more fantasy based as far as locations are concerned while vs seems more set in modern settings, like its cars, locale, buildings, i just hope it can live up to the cutscenes that were shown for both games and i hope the gameplay rocks for both.

Versus Trailer: WOW!!!! SO GANGSTA! I like that more than the regular FFXIII. It seems like SE has the best of the best working on this one, according to the credits. Will it stay exclusive? IDK. Only time will tell.
@Aaron
That's correct. The 3 FFXIII games are totally different (in story, gameplay, genre, all that). They are just on the same planet, i think.
@Ben
Where's the Agito trailer? Any word on it?

Now if such scenes are rendered on-the-fly instead of pre-rendered video, there might be more value to attach to them -- keeping in mind that MANY horrible movies have nice-looking trailers.

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers...other than to still mean that it seems ridiculous to make any judgments on a game based on non-gameplay trailers.

It almost seems like Square is testing/expanding it's fan base. If the Xbox fans buy into the FF series, then Square has gotten more people to buy their product. If they don't then they still give the Sony people something to brag about/spend money on with an exclusive title. Kind of a win/win situation unless the games suck.
Also, anyone willing to bet that if FF13 does really well on Xbox, then they'll probably see a FF7 remake shortly after? It's what Square did when they switched from Nintendo to Sony. They put a top notch game on to the PS1(FFVII) then re-released all the old ones that were on Nintendo for those that might have missed them first time around, or those that wanted to play them again. It almost seems like they're doing it again with M$.

FF X-2..... FF12....
The last remnants. (its actually not too bad, its just the battle is very easy but sometime become very hard because i cant select the commands manually)
@ff
400GB blu-ray disc wont be playable on PS3 :D
and the transfer rate on the deepest layer will be horrible.
@USO
>_< the problem in X360 is the FMV. it eat a lot of space. in PS3 square can just do many cutscenes in pre-rendered FMV. but in X360, if they not want to make the game 5-6-7 disc, they need to make the cutscene realtime rendered to minimalize the disc space needed
EDIT:
btw the last 1 minute of the trailer is in in game engine. very visible from the jaggiest and (hard to notice) awkward chara motion

Pioneer even specifically made a giant announcement about the 16-layered disc. They said that layer technology wasnt originally possible due to the fact that the deeper layers would be terrible to read.
But the new technology makes all layers virtually equally accessible (with the help of Blu-ray of course).
Blu-ray is extremely upgradeable, that's what some DVD fanboys (yes, DVD fanboys) are ignorant about.
Only recently, they made the announcement about a 2010 release and full compatibility with all current blu-ray players (obviously including PS3). imagine a multiplatform port to 360... a 47-disc game... my favourite!

But I don't know if him saying that was to bash or support the Xbox 360.
I'd think it'll be the former, because then they would have BluRay (eventually taking Sony's idea, negating the debates about not needing BluRay). And the price would go up =]

And well...I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart. Final Fantasy XIII looks beautiful and in my opinion will be an awesome game but however will never live up to Final Fantasy Versus XIII. AND NO WAY IN HELL - am I saying that from my PS fanboy side but my JRPG fanboy side. Heck Versus XIII could be an exclusive to 360 and I'd still say it beats FFXIII if it was an exclusive to PS3.
Here's why:
Just look at Versus XIII. The story looks 10x more mysterious, the gameplay looks like it will be awesome considering the Advent Children and KH team are on this. It's directed by Tetsuya Nomura. The environment looks amazing. The emotion presented in the trailer looks amazing. When Noctis runs and comes across that other girl (who I'm not sure if is Stella or not) you can see such emotion in their faces. That girl looked almost as if she was to embrace Noctis but then something made her to start a fight with him that she never wanted. Also the characters in this are all just so interesting where you already want to get to know them. All of Noctis' friends? Graphics are amazing, "But it's all pre-ren" - nah ah ah, take a look at the end when Noctis meets Stella. That's real-time baby. Oh and the music???? GODLY. God this will be an amazing game. Can't wait on FFXIII either. But looking much more forward to Versus XIII.

And when you guys say "This was trash," or "I hated it," or even "I loved it," you're not providing any useful insight into your thoughts on the videos. You're forcing your thinking into two conclusions--love or hate--which are not representative of your actual thoughts on the video. You don't have to pick a polarized position just so you can say something.
I, for one, was impressed with the character art. The variations of characters was definitely representative of a Final Fantasy game. I especially liked Ifrit and Carbuncle. Hopefully the game itself will run in the same visual quality as these trailers.

if square keep the japanese voice on the x360, lol
how much disc it will take >_<
the ps3 versin will still have the japanese voice.. the big blu-ray disc space really give advantage to add more contents.
btw the ff13 in-game engine in the las 1 minute on the trailer, look great but look "static".
remember MGS4 tech demo in-game engine trailer? run in full 60fps, and look at all the dusts on ground and flying on air, the debris, the shadow, the lighting on snake's body, all dynamic and there so many of them.

Also FF13V look like a movie trailer. If it wasn't for a few parts that went a little long like the driving in the desert...or the expended men in the meeting room. It look's like a movie trailer...

even though it was fun back in the day i never liked RPGS,the last time i played a FF game was
FFVIII for ps1 that game still to this day captivates me....
that been said watching this video kind of reminds me what i felt for FF so long ago.
if this game is half of what this video shows it will be THE ff game of the decade...
this is just my opinion of course...

I have been with that one since the beginning. (FFXIII Looks amazing as well)
Just throwing this out there, but you know how at the beginning of the Versus trailer it sayd "this is a fantasy based on reality"?
Then later in the trailer, it shows that road flooded with water. Could this possibly be a game about the potential future of the earth? Global warming, ect. If so, this would go against SE's comment that the two stories are tied together, unless FFXIII has the same basis.
I am rambling, ranting about possible ideas... But this is what came to mind. :)

Versus didnt look interesting at all to me until now. I am truly digging the style of both and feel that it wont be too hard for me to shell out the 130 required to purchase both games new.
Well lets hope this quality filters into the final project.
