First Splatterhouse Remake Details

The title of the game says it all.

Of course, back in the day, Namco didn't have the technology to - forgive the pun - splatter all that blood and gore on our TVs. Now, they're issuing a remake of the 1988 arcade classic that will assault your high-definition TV with oodles of filthy stuff. Bottlerocket, developer of the critically acclaimed The Mark of Kri last generation, is handling the remake for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and 1Up recently got a look at it. Here's a little tidbit: one of the featured weapons for this bad boy is a 2-by-4 meat cleaver, and Rick's inventory has been expanded so now there are multiple weapon classes. Just think of the possibilities... In terms of how it stacks up to the original, Namco says the old-school graphics are "best left to nostalgia," but they still want to keep that "80s horror movie vibe." Essentially, they want you to expect a campy, cheesy, yet in-your-face action title that will focus so heavily on gore, it'll be downright comical. As Namco says, players will have a "very messy good time."

Horror fans may be reminded of a movie called "Dead Alive" when they read this article, and that may be accurate. Over-the-top blood and gore, but with a little dark comedy, too. Oh, and if you haven't heard of the movie, we strongly suggest not looking it up online while at work or while there's anyone under the age of 18 in the room...hell, make that 35.

Used to play Splatterhouse at the mini mart by my house that I grew up in. Mindless yet satisfying fun, looking forward to it!

It doesn't look so hot to me. I still got that golden axe remake taste in my mouth.

Splatterhouse and Bonk where the only reasons I really wanted a TurboGrafx back then. Really looking forward to seeing the remakes'release. And Dead Alive is a great classic horror flick though a tad bit cheesy. But then again most, if not all, horror movies are lol.

Never seen it, is it as over-the-top as Re-animator?

So, does anyone know if this has been included in any of the gazillion Namco Museum compilations. I have them all on the PS2, but I can't recall if it is on any of them.

Namco has been rerleasing these compilations every new generation since the PSX, but they keep on recycling the same games (Pac-Man, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Dig Dug, etc... I get... but the same filler games too I don't get.)

I would love some of these compilations (Namco, Sega, etc...) to include Splatterhouse, Zaxxon, Karate Champ (Data East), etc...
