PSN Updates: Castlevania Chronicles, New Battle-Cars Content
With bad weather looming dangerously on the horizon in many parts of North America, you'll probably want to bypass a GameStop trip and check out the new stuff at the PlayStation Store.
First up is the addition of Castlevania Chronicles, freshly added to the PSN today for the agreeable price of $5.99. If we remember correctly, this title never made it to the U.S., so this adventure will be a first if you didn't import way back when. Count Dracula has been resurrected (yep, again), and Simon Belmont must find a way to take him down (yep, again). For old-school side-scrolling fans, this is a must-have and a fantastic way to relive the good ol' days when the wind howls outside. Next is a Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars update: this unique and entertaining title just dropped in price to $9.99, making it even more attractive, and Psyonix Studios has lifted the lid on a big update. We're getting the following:
- New "Cosmic" arena
- Improved performance in network games
- A server browser has been added during matchmaking
- Players can now view leaderboards during matchmaking
- News updates appear on the online page
- Meters added to evaluate players' connection speed
- Headsets can be plugged-in or swapped during gameplay
So now that the blockbuster releases are behind us for 2008 and things are winding down, we expect a lull between now and February, when the likes of Killzone 2 and Street Fighter IV release. Therefore, the PSN should be a popular attraction during this time, and it has plenty of great content awaiting your perusal.

Castlevania Chronicles is a 2001 PlayStation remake of the 1993 Sharp X68000 version of the original Akumajō Dracula. The X68000 game, which was never released outside of Japan, is also a retelling of the original Akumajō Dracula/Castlevania for the Famicom Disk System/NES.
Released in the U.S. on Oct. 8, 2001.

I believe Sony made two of the earlier models, the 60 & 20 to be BC with the PS2 games, but Sony decided to delete the BC for all of the newer, 40, the 2 80's, & 160 models.
(Somebody's sure to corrct me if I'm wrong though, LOL).
In IMHO, I think it's 1 of the 2 PS3 blunders Sony's made, the other being their horrendous marketing stragedy and the almost non-existent advertising so far.
That's why I haven't bought a new "3" yet.
I'm of the "wait-&-see" attitude hoping they'll finally listen to us long-time Sony fans & bring BC back in a future "3" model.
Otherwise, I might just have to buy an older 60 or 20 model & change out to a 500 hard drive.
But my main worry then with this scenerio, will be that because I'm not tech-worthy, I'll screw something up while doing the swap-out & from then on the only role I'll get to play with my broken PS3, is a parts-manager sorting out my new expensive plastic & metal recyclable junkpile.
