Circuit City: PS3 Midnight Madness

While Best Buy had some issues regarding the PS3 launch and a faux preorder program, Circuit City is prepared to cause a little insanity of their own. But for this retailer, it's all very clear and quite legitimate.

Six Circuit City stores will open at midnight on November 17 (that's right, the instant the clocks switch to Nov. 17), and they'll have 100 PS3 units going on sale at that time. Of course, everything officially kicks off at 8 p.m., so you'll probably have to show up pretty darn early if you want to be one of the lucky 100. The six stores are-

  • Union Square: New York, NY - Store 3679
  • Torrance: Hawthourne, Los Angeles - Store 404
  • Cherry Hill: Mount Laurel, NJ - Store 0734
  • Schaumburn: Schaumburg, IL - Store 3111
  • Rockville: Rockville, MD - Store 866
  • Short Pump: Richmond, VA - Store 3549

They'll start handing out vouchers at 10 p.m. to the first 100 people in line, and come midnight, you'll be able to pick up your PS3 the instant the systems hit their street date. Furthermore, Circuit City says that five of the six stores will be "giving away" five PS3s each to "win," and the Union Square store will be "giving away" 100. We put those words in quotes because we're really not sure what they mean, but we anticipate a pending riot situation.

Good luck to anyone within reasonable driving distance of those six stores.

Fantastic! Can't wait to get it!
Good, not sure if I'll buy immediately.
Eh, not bad, but I don't care.
It's just a stupid money grab.
