L.A. Noire Still Shrouded In Mystery

You know, this is one of those cases where the real-life situation is beginning to reflect the concept and style of the game itself.

After Take-Two released their fourth-quarter results - which showed a $15 million loss despite a dramatic increase in sales - they moved on to reveal their 2009 lineup. Bioshock 2 was on there, of course, but without any targeted platforms, the rumors are starting to fly... We do know that PlayStation 3 software comprised the majority of Take-Two sales so this adds fuel to an already raging fire, but here's another little highlight (or non-highlight): L.A. Noire is mysteriously absent from Take-Two's 2009 schedule. The publisher is supposed to handle the new Rockstar project, but with no mention of it anywhere, we're starting to hear whispers of "vaporware" around the Internet. An update on the title's progress would be appreciated, but we obviously won't get it from Take-Two; perhaps Rockstar can enlighten us in early 2009. We always thought L.A. Noire was a very promising project, and we had hoped to get the first official details before 2008 was over.

Unfortunately, we're left completely in the dark for the time being. If we hear anything, we'll be sure to let you know, but in the meantime, revel in the greatness of other anticipated 2009 titles. Yeah, you know what they are.

"On September 10, 2007, as part of their Q3 2007 financial disclosure, Take Two announced the game was delayed until their 2009 fiscal year."

Also The 2009 fiscal year doesn't end until march of 2010

Are you sure? Take-Two is American, right? The Japanese FY ends in March, where US FY's may be varied.

I learned about this one some time ago and it's right up my alley, I doubt its vaporware but it's clearly going to be one of those games that for some reason or other just keeps getting delayed. (Unfortunately those games have problems sometimes). Nothin to do but wait.

Yes for the year...do you think after one quarter is up people just stop buying games that were released during them...people are still buying GTAIV and Midnight Club:LA

Thats stupid and ignorant of you to say about something you clearly are not knowledgeble...

I'm not surprised that 2008 sales were in favour of PS3 for Take-Two, PS3 had Bioshock released on it this year, thats a whole extra AAA title to add to sales which Xbx360 would have had in 2007.

Hey Ben,
Not sure if you've seen this or not, so...

I just found this recent article on L.A. Noire(9/20/08 )over at 1UP's site, and 1Up is saying that the game's coming ....

L.A. Noire Still Coming, But May Have 'Another Year to Go':
President of the Game Developers' Association of Australia also says it's no longer a PS3 exclusive.

Anyway, the full article's at this link if you want to check it out:

Sony had been helping finance the product. Prior to the summer a rumor went out that the game had missed certain deadlines and the funding was cut. If that is the case then chances are any exclusivity went out the door with Sony's capital.
