Suikoden Comes To PSN Today

Okay RPG fans, Sony has delivered a very nice early Christmas gift to the PlayStation Store today. Many have complained about a lack of downloadable PS1 classics on the PSN, but they've been amping things up lately, and we really appreciate this new addition.

Today, you will find the original Suikoden on the Store for you to download. At only $5.99, it's an absolute steal for old-school RPG fans; this is one of the original greats on the PlayStation, pre-dating the likes of Final Fantasy VII and although it's now 12 years old, it's still fantastic. Konami's franchise has run through multiple installments since then - Suikoden V is the most recent - and just about all of them have been excellent. It all began back in 1996, though, and if you never got a chance to play the original, now's the time to try it. See if you can nab all 108 Stars of Destiny (unlikely unless you use a FAQ), and in truth, the fact that you can beat this game in only 12 hours or so is actually a bonus. ...because when you're done, you're gonna want to play it again. It features a great story, 6-character turn-based battles, and even full-scale wars that utilize a rock-paper-scissors sort of strategy. Really, you're not allowed to call yourself a role-playing fan if you've never played Suikoden.

So don't bother trying to find a copy on eBay; just jump online and grab it right now! We're hoping to hear about a sixth entry in the series for the PlayStation 3, and if Konami ever drops any information on that, we'll be quick to post an update. ...and no, you may not have our mint condition copy of Suikoden. ;)

Whoa... $6 for the original Suikoden? I'll buy it. No when are they going to put Chrono Cross up there?

I'd be more interested in Chrono Trigger. I've got a nice list of PSOne games that I'd love to see (Parasite Eve, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Sled Storm, Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, Fear Effect) and hopefully will get to see them arrive someday.

Yay!

Not just because I can now get this game (which as most of you know is rare and expensive), but also because some of the whining may abate for a while.

And for $6, even if it's horribly out-of-date, no biggie.

Xenogears is a good game, I didn't finish it however, my PS2 seems to have a problem switching discs on PS1 games and it won't work. I don't know what's wrong. I'm playing Xenosaga episode III right now, which is about as good.

I was hoping they would release Suikoden II instead, that one is way better (part V is the best though) however for six bucks I think I have to get it.

Suiko6 would be the pimpest thing ever.

I remember playing this essential back in '96. I may re-purchase it even though I beat it. The Playstation Store is the place to be! Gremio!!!!!

YEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never actually played the game, but I have played all of the games on the PS2(despite Suikoden 4's flaws I liked it the most), and I hear that 1 & 2 are the best, so I can't wait.

I was really surprise to see this game on the PSN! I've played Suikoden 2 and imo is one of the best rpgs of all time! I've been looking for suikoden 1 for a long long time! I can't believe that I'll be getting this game just by clicking a button!! Thanks Sony! This news makes me happy! And, Merry Christmas to all!!

This needs to be a continuing trend from Sony with the Playstation Store. Here is my PSone Classics wish list; Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain, Vandal Hearts, Xenogears and Final Fantasy 7 are no brainers.
