MGS4 Wins GoY At GameSpot
While we aren't the biggest fans of GameSpot - and we have our reasons - we do have to admit they still hold a lot of clout. Therefore, when a PlayStation 3 exclusive lands Game of the Year honors for the very first time, it's worth mentioning.
That's right, despite the very stiff competition, GameSpot has given their prestigious Game of the Year award to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and if we know our community, we imagine there won't be much disagreement amongst the readers. So far, we've seen a lot of the more visible sources - SpikeTV's Video Game Awards, TIME Magazine, New York Times, etc. - give the overall GoY award to Grand Theft Auto IV, which is clearly the primary competition for MGS4 in 2008. Oddly enough, Gears of War 2 doesn't seem to be factoring into the decision much, which is guaranteed to annoy the Xbox 360 fans, because they would've rather seen a PS3-only vs. a 360-only, instead of a PS3-only vs. a multiplatform title...see, the PS3 has both of 2008's best. But we're not about to harp on that; what matters is that Kojima's masterpiece is getting the appropriate recognition, and we still say this with little love lost for GameSpot. Who out there will disagree with their selection this year? Who will dare to challenge the greatness of MGS4? Who will provide a legitimate argument for other top-notch titles of the year?
And perhaps more importantly, what does PSXE think? As you can see by the previous links, we must've gotten something right, as the two games that vie for GoY so often are the two games we awarded the highest scores of the year...but does that one-tenth difference mean automatic victory for MGS4? Find out next week, when our Game of the Year Awards go live...

THEY'RE NOT AS SUSCEPTIBLE TO POLITICS.
not governmental politics, just the whole "lets please the majority of the people" kind of politics.
