Killzone 2 Will Rise Above The Haters
Anyone who is familiar with video game forums is quite aware of this recurring phenomenon: if a game either gets too much hype or too much critical acclaim from reviewers, it quickly becomes "hip to hate." All of this boils down to the elitist superiority complex of most insecure forumites (seems like everything boils down to insecurity in this world); just to prove they "know more than everyone else."
As BadAssGamer points out, this trend is already beginning for Killzone 2. Before, some of it was warranted due to the massive amount of hype for something that remained almost entirely unknown. You know, we only had a few screenshots and a very early gameplay video that almost nobody believed was the real deal, so of course, there were plenty of skeptics out there. But now, even after many sources have been able to go hands-on with both the beta testing and an early single-player build, and all of them went bonkers over both, the aforementioned elitist hate has arrived. The "I'm in my parents basement polishing my Master Chief helmet and secretly hoping KZ2 isn't as good as everyone says it is" syndrome. Now, they'll accept the graphics but because they haven't laid hands on it yet, it's "yeah, but what about the gameplay," despite everything we've told them. We've played plenty of Killzone 2. We know what to expect and what it's going to be like...and we know it's going to blow everything else out of the water and help to redefine the FPS genre. We know it, everyone who has played it knows it, and unfortunately, this is baaaaad news for all the jealous haters out there.
See, some games are just so good that even the most rabid of opposer's have to concede defeat. Titles like these don't come along very often, and event though both MGS4 and GTAIV could be considered as hate-defying games, they may not be... The Xbots will try the "yeah, like I want to play a movie" with MGS4 and the GTA haters will say the new focus on realism makes it a lesser experience. All ridiculous, but they've got to come up with something to uphold their image. Well, just warning you ahead of time, haters: KZ2 won't give you any opportunity whatsoever to maintain your skeptical criticism. Prepare yourselves now, because this is one game that will rise above any and all petty remonstrances. We promise.

You've just described someone I know! lol
Anyway, this game is gonna ROCK. I don't really care what people say anyway. When all the 360 people were hating MGS4, I just told them they wouldn't be complaining if it was on 360.

ppl who favors xbox:DO NOT REPLY TO THIS COMMENT
OR EVEN READ IT !!!!
pal lol
xbox lovers come to sites like these and watch killzone videos on youtube so they can spread propaganda and bad press becuz they are so in love with their 'fail'box like u said lol
why do they hate ps3 so much? ps3 has no faults.
xbox lovers are scared that ps3 will eventually take over. ps3 only 6 mil away from xbox according to wikipedia last updated in october.
ppl in youtube are already fighting on this issue and its getting intense.
i never played killzone 1 but i do have to agree the kz2 trailer does look really awesome. whats negative things are there to say about killzone2?
most gamers these days are shooter fans anyway!
try it out yourself before distorting the game!

Trust me-there's no chance of GT/Kotaku/1up et al giving KZ2 a fair go. If they did it would be admitting Sony were right and they were wrong so I cannot see the 10's across the board that the inferior(but still good)Halo3 got. Anyone who's ever played Halo3 and the KZ2 beta(luckily a friend of mine was in it)knows which is the better game already, I just hope the games press and their sites don't stitch this one up when it's sooo good and GG have taken such care over it to avoid what happened with Killzone(tbh I feel the PS2 wasn't a match for their ambition that time-Retribution on PSP was good though-for all those saying how GG have always failed with this franchise)on PS2. I just can't see the hate stopping myself.

I have R:FoM and UTIII (cheap copies off eBay), but ended up not playing them much because I was getting frustrated with the controls (which I'm well aware is MY problem, not the games') and too impatient to spend time learning the controls better then. I've recently downloaded the WARHAWK and MGS4 demos and been using the training/tutorial portions to practice the moving and looking/aiming choreography that seemed so unnatural to me at first. Hopefully I can get decent enough to play K2 OK on its easiest level when it comes out. :-)

I would like to believe, but I disagreed too much with the way the site felt about Resistance 2. I agree with the score, but only because of the online multiplayer and co-op.
If I had to rate just the single player campaign of R2, it would have been a 6 for the first half, and a 8.5 for the second half of it.

The FPS genre is fine as it is. The only problem currently is that it's so hard for devs to get it right.
Not that redefining a genre is a bad thing, it just usually doesn't turn out right.
KZ2 being better that Halo 3 isn't that big a stretch. Halo 3 was a fairly poorly put together game if you look at it without rose-tinted glasses...
@Fabi
I hated R2's coop. Random maps, random objectives, no basis on the campaign, and way too hard for my wife and I to play alone. And that's when we've beaten other games like RFOM/Halo/R6 on their highest difficulty.

In some respects...I don't think it was THAT impressive graphically, but I think it won bigtime on 2 counts: 1) HALO/HALO 2 fans NEEDING a fix; 2) being very fun to play (for most people)
On the 2nd count (as an aside), I think that's something a LOT of people ignore...if a game is a ton of fun, it doesn't really matter how great the graphics are. It's like a sci-fi/fantasy/action movie isn't great JUST BECAUSE it had great effects (most are usually crap). Since we have HD gaming now, there SHOULD be a certain level of quality to the graphics, but gameplay should almost always overrule graphics quality/complexity in judging a game (unless graphics are actually a distraction). Take, for example, anti-PS3 fanboys slamming R2 for texture quality -- something I saw minorly mentioned in some reviews that still gave the game best or almost best rating overall.
Luckily, it looks like in K2's case, the people handling the graphics quality are their own group and not the actual gameplay coders doing double-duty and spending more time on the looks alone (like it seems happens at some developers).

And I thought it was just me. Is the co-op even possible to beat locally? Since it only lets you play 2 players. You need all three classes to suceed. I tried playing it twice with my friend, and we got killed so fast.

I pick up games for two reasons:
1. They're going to be good, or
2. It has split/shared screen coop
I rarely, rarely play games without coop, because one of the nice things about playing is that my wife plays with me.
So after having played RFOM with my wife, we were looking forward to R2, especially since it was coming up against Gears 2 again. Unfortunately, R2's coop could not possibly fail to meet my expectations any more.

"one of the nice things about playing is that my wife plays with me. "
You lucky b*st*rd!!! :). I wish my wife would play games with me. I have all three current consoles (PS3, 360 & Wii) and most genres of games (FPS, driving simulators, arcade racers, RPGs, action-adventures, platformers, etc), but it seems my wife believes games to not be worth the time. She'll watch crap like HGTV and childish sit-coms hour after hour in rapt attention, but games - "sigh". She doesn't even bother to watch a little while I'm playing :(.
Anyway, on-topic, although I haven't had a chance to try KZ2, Ben's promise increases my confidence in this game. (Thanks Ben).

...Plus Halo was like a 5/10 if you ask me..;)
PS: I really hope your right Ben. People were expecting alot more from Killzone 1 if I remember right..But still it was the best FPS on PS2.
PPS: I swear to god if you use that "I have all three consoles" defense..
