Sega Classics To Be Reborn On PSN?

So far, the PlayStation Network has been an excellent source of both new and innovative products like echochrome and resurrected old-school classics, so considering the latter, can they really ignore Sega?

While it's true that Sega has fallen on hard times and can't seem to produce a decent 3D action game if their lives depended on it, they remain one of the most important companies in video game history. Unfortunately, even when they give us something great in Valkyria Chronicles, the gamers don't respond and Sega is still left languishing behind the heavy-hitters of the new generation. So what better way to remember the good ol' days than to find awesome Sega classics from yesteryear on the PSN? According to DailyGamesNews, the ESRB has rated Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone and Gunstar Heroes for distribution on the Network, and this should come as good news to all veteran gamers. These titles are already available on the Wii virtual console, and they'd be fantastic additions to the PSN. The only question left is when they will officially announce them, and how much they will charge for each game...some people are willing to pay more while others are reluctant to go much higher than $9.99.

Anyway, we'll keep a close eye on this and let you know when you can expect them; we're just assuming the ESRB doesn't bother to rate games for a non-existent distribution. And talk about classics! Those four games are some of the most memorable in history!

No EA killed the Dreamcast.EA stated that they will not support the Dreamcast, and EA at the time had alot of control over the market,If you think they have too much now, they dominated the gaming market back then. The Saturn was too advanced for its time cause of the vector chips in the Saturn,Vector coding is a bytch to program. The PS2 had a more refined vector chip in the Emotion engine chip, but was still a bytch to code for.The rise of DVD bought the playstation to its high cause big and nice looking games could be made on the bigger DVD disk unlike the old CD based games like the PS1 and watch movies.Xbox was just too damn big and controller was too heavy and alot of DVD movies were not compatible on the xbox.

I was just thinking (woh!): Capcom and Sega are just about to release a slew of classic games on the PSN. They are marketing towards the older gamers that remember playing all these games as children. I certainly did. I guess this is where that survey conducted regarding the age demographics for all the consoles came in handy. I for one am eager to dish out tons of cash to satisfy my nostalgic cravings.

"remember playing all these games as children". Oh, man! I was already into my second job when the PS1 hit the stores ...

But I say bring it on! This with Capcom games will mean we can all revert whenever we choose.

To paraphrase Roy Scheider, "We're gonna need a bigger Hard Drive!"

Why not bring back Sega Channel? I'd still pay for that.

I would totally pay for a sega channel. My friends and I had it back in the day and it was fantastic.

Furious - Phantasy Star IV was pretty good IMO.

Sega would do well if they could deliver some very strong remakes or hd versions of some classic games. If i could play a new gunstar heroes, a new streets of rage etc. Id be on cloud nine - well that is if they could pull it off. It would definitely be worth my money.

Even some dreamcast titles would make good new games. I would love a new Jet Set(grind) Radio.

Valkyria chronices is good but i won't probably ever get it, haven't got cash now, and i wan't other things.
my main most wanted list is: NFSU, DiRT2, and a decent sonic title, possibly one off PSN.

would this be an attempt to rise sales for the PS3 by getting all those "veterian" gamers in the new generation.sony have been doing there part in this, trying to get ps2 games on the store and with the promise to have more ps1 games after this year, with these remarks from sega and the other from capcom.maybe they think to get this platform on the right path they have to take a step back and start from the same people they start with many years ago.i've never even played these games(in the article)but i do like the idea i never letting the classics and treasures of old die.

Sega could totally come back as a powerhouse if they just got some good management that actually understood gaming and cared. Many of their new games look like a college project.

Nobody ever played Phantasy Star 1 because it was on the Master System. It was one of the greatest RPGs ever and all other Phantasy Star games are a poor shadow of it. Redo it perfectly in HD with updated maps and more planets. Real time 3d caves that pay homage to the original. The story is there, you can almost get an engine off the shelf to do it.....you just need to do it.

SEGA needs to understand that by redoing their classics in a way that shows they want to make a game that matters. Most of the old fanbase will respond and they can start picking up new fans. But when they make shotty remakes or just throw us back their old games year after year, you become as relevant as dust.

Over 40 sega games, and look at the top right corner of the box.. PSN??

So that means that the games on the PSN will need to cost less than $1.00 to compete with this disk.

Also found this 'lil tidbit:

ALL TITLES UPGRADED TO HI-DEF. The classic 2D style never looked so good! Each of the titles has been converted to hi-def (720p) and will be a blast to play using the intuitive controls of the Xbox 360® and PLAYSTATION®3 systems.

Weird I was just playing Comix Zone on the PS2 Sega Collection.

$30 for all those games is a great deal. But I already own most of them on ps2. I might get it just for Sonic and Knuckles though.
