Just because you pay for online doesn't mean it's better.

The PSN store as it is with ps1 classics and so many great games being added to it rivals the XBLA. Ok even if the XBLA wins it's barely at this point.

Don't get me started on 360 players who don't have a ps3 and say that its online games don't stable servers like the ones for 360.

I mean seriously have they played Warkhaw, Resistance1 or 2, Gran Turismo5: Prologue, Motorstorm, etc.? You'd have to be retarded to even question the ps3's servers.

Sure they have their bad moments once every 2 months or whatnot, nothing serious compared to all the glitching and bugging that happens on XBL.

They're feeling the heat! Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, GOWIII, GT5, and those yet to be revelead.

oh and all the games have achivement..

but all the ps3 games are begining to have trophies... and sony probly will get to the psn on the pc soon...

for right now the psn and xbox live are about the same

Here's another weird thing about human psychology. When your mom bought your shoes, back in your school days, you like 'em and take care them. I am, and always have been, happy with my purchase and by the end of this year will be laughing at the people who laughed at me when I bought my ps3 at launch.
I will start laughing in Feburary when Killzone is released and then be in stitches by the time GT5 hits later this year.
Im still looking forward to seeing the game the BBC reporter was talking about though....and where is Team Ico's next game...

There's a little game called LBP that supposedly bombed. Guess what, it's closing in on 2 mil sold according to VGChartz. I'm not saying they're 100% correct but they're pretty close give or take 15%. This game will be one of PS3's top selling exclusives before it's all said and done.

In terms of numbers that reach millions it's not. If VGchartz has LBP at 1.65 mil -- 15% less is 1.4 mil -- 15% more is 1.89 mil. Even at the low number, 1.4 mil ain't a flop for a game that's only been out close to 2 months. It's all about how you perceive it. Your comparison about age does not make sense at all. Btw 15% less of 30 is 25.5 and 15% more is 34.5. You can't always think just black and white or you'll miss the grey. :)

My younger cousin's 360 broke. I told him I'll get him one (mine). I told him it will come with Gears2. He said he didn't really like the first one. I asked him if there were any other games he could think of that he'd like. He told me he didn't know. I asked him if he'd like a ps3, instead. He said he'd rather have a 360. Why? Because all his other friends have one. I was kinda happy, because I'd rather give up my 360 than my ps3.

Actually, the iPhone is really good for games... I have all 3 handhelds and while I'd like to say PSP is the best, it just doesn't have enough games. The DS isn't really my thing either. I don't really like handheld consoles to be honest. Not the current ones anyway.

My girlfriends parents gave me a DS for christmas. I gave it back to my girlfriend because she likes playing Mario Cart and old style Mario games. Now she has something to do so I don't feel so bad about hogging the TV while I'm playing SOCOM.

I was talking to a sales rep at Gamestop, and he said Tekken is now a 360 exclusive. I said, don't be silly, it's multiplatform. He said he was dead serious. I told him, more politely, ofcourse, that he was dead wrong, and should look it up.

This is why I like to read and get informed b4 purchasing games. You don't want to know what these salesreps were spewing out during the holidays specifically when they were talking to uninformed parents and grandparents. I hate to admit it because I'm a 360 fan but most of these reps were generally painting a rosier picture for the 360 over the PS3. Some even went as far as to say that the PS3 was not going to get as much support in the near future. I just shook my head and bought a couple of Wii and DS games.(not for me...twas gifts for nephews)

I don't think the difference is that dramatic... it may end up being so if we see more and more exclusives really pushing the hardware beyond what is evidently possible on the Xbox360... It will be a waiting game... quality of exclusives should trend upwards for the PS3 showing its true power. My worry is with the years it takes to develop titles... will we only see the next round of exclusives released before ultimate the PS4 is released, doubling graphic and processor capacity?

Ain't microsoft is a software company so why they can't create there own content? I agree with this article because I have lived through all of this. many people around me always judged me for buying a ps3 and always told me ps3 was the last console sony would ever make, because they were doing so bad. But, when you think about it microsoft is only pulling revenue from the xbox 360 selling while sony is pulling revenue from ps3, ps2, and psp, somewhere along the line im sure psp and ps2 are picking the slack of the ps3 in terms of sale. So I'm sure the big guys aren't too much worried about losing money since other products pull in money also. And when you think with this logic how can sony be in trouble with the gaming industry? also take in mind in two years ps3 has sold 20 mill while xbox has 27 mill with 3 years in and had no comp for their first year. if ps3 would have been available in 2005 im pretty sure ps3 would be close if not over the sales of xbox. so to people dissin on the ps3 doing so bad, go back to playing your xbox games and enjoy your meager victory while it lasts.

i got an xbox360 for christmas, i've had my ps3 for a year and a half and i have always and will always love it. I went in to gamestop (which is something I rarely do) to check out the used games and i of course went to the ps3 games first. One of the employees was going on and on and on to one of their customers about how the ps3 is almost dead, so buying an xbox 360 was by far the better choice. The guy responded that he had a 360 and they both went on and on and on about how great it was and what a piece of turd the ps3 is. Then, when I went from the ps3 games to the check out the 360 games they both stopped and stared at me like i was some kind of freak. (i'm not, I'm very sexy imho) As soon as I walked away they both started laughing and obviously poking fun at me. THIS WAS AN EMPLOYEE!!! jackasses...also, the gamestop employees have got my friend believing that the next metal gear is an xbox exclusive and all sorts of nasty bs like that. I don't know what the world is coming to.

What a strange shop. I go to Game locally where I live in Liverpool, UK. The guys in there know I have both systems they don't try to push me on either system but they know I do tend to buy the games on the PS3 more than my 360 unless it is exclusive ie Gears 2. The reason I get the games on the PS3 1) The online network is free 2) I tend to trust my PS3 more than the 360. Each time I put my 360 on im scared im gonna get the dreaded RROD lol.

I dont "hate" the PS3. I just think Sony is way to overconfident with the machine..

I remember they said they would revolutionize online play..but they dident(trophies..come on). They said that next gen "started" when they said so and that "real" next gen games would be seen on PS3.

You cant claim all this BS and expect noone to fire back. Its amazing how people can ask why be hostile when thats ALL Sony used to be.

Just pointing that MS has made HUGE strides since the early days.

Noone is laughing at Microsoft anymore. Just how people will most likely stop laughing at the PS3 come 09. Dont worry..I knew price was its problem from the start.

I see great potential in the PS3. But I dont expect the people in Xboxs home turf to report EVERYTHING good about the PS3. The Xbox appeals to alot of people. Me and you both haven't had problems with ours. So we are fortunate to understand whats great about both.

Yes, I was actually quite pissed off at first with the game, cos Create mode had limited options at first. But when you get heaps of prize bubbles and do alll the tutorials, it's way better! Yay on my DualShock 3 purchase yesterday lol.

Why? Your system isn't as powerful, and it has the Red Ring of Death? The only reason it's doing better is because of Halo (that game sucks, IMO). I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but the PS3 is most likely going to pull something amazing out of it's ass sometime this year. I have played the 360, and yes, it's a good system...then you get the RRoD. I have a PS3, and they're both good...just the PS3 is better..in some ways, and the 360 is better in different ways.

Thank you for that article. I need every bit of this.You people do good work.I know (generally speaking) gamestop and their employees are poo but mine is alright.Ive tried testing the people there to see if they're biased for ps3 or 360 and they always just gimme the facts for both systems then tell me their opinions on which system is better and why. I love PS3 and factually speaking its the better system with more reliable hardware and durability.Not to mention its already great list of great games and great list of upcoming games.

Ben. Why? Why? Why? Why post this? You know I love you man. I respect you, but WHY? This isn't news. This isn't even NEW. You've posted multiple articles that state the exact same thing as this one. "PS3 isn't bad, stop hatin." WE GET IT. You continue to simply preach to the choir. Almost everybody on this site already likes the PS3. Hence, they come to this site. I don't mean to sound rude, but there is no point to this. To be completely honest this is turning into a PlayStation Owner's group therapy session. It seems to me that with these articles you're trying to call out all these PS3 haters but in the process we are becoming exactly what we all despise. I hope that this community is able to practice what you preach, (fair, unbiased, etc.) but you know as well as I that, that isn't going to happen.

Best case scenario for the response to this article is a bunch of people bashing the 360. The most likely scenario is a couple people jump on you, call you a fanboy, and a flame war starts up.

Maybe my brain cells have simply grown completely agitated from reading these same dumb arguments over and over again the last 2 weeks. Or maybe my spliting migrain has driven me mad. Maybe I'm just pissed because I'm taking a break from deleting FIFTY MULTIPOSTS. But I'm scared to read through the comments on here tomorrow. Literally afraid of my ears starting to bleed and my eyes melting away from the sheer stupidity of crap people will argue over.

Anyway, figured I'd post that. I'll probably regret it in the morning.

I love Ben but I half agree with Shadow. I am a Sony fan period. I love their stuff, my RRoD caused me to basically make my Xbox 360 an ornament. It never gets touched anymore, but I do feel that the same thing has been said over and over and the comments section gets ridiculous. I think maybe we should get a little less editorial? And mind you I don't even LIKE Shadow, but here I have to partially agree with him.

*edit* Besides everyone here knows that the PS3 is almost unstoppable compared to the collapsing Xbox 360.

Some websites are hating really badly on the PS3 claiming Sony will drop it and move on, saying we got bad games, and claiming some false information on us bringing rumors and what not to the Internet. Ben is fighting it off. I want Ben to be our voice and he is doing it.

Shadow: The vast majority of everything that gets posted on PSXE is news, previews, reviews, screenshots, videos, and the like. In total, we do about 50 updates in any given week, and on average, a grand total of 5 might be editorials. I know this because I keep close track. At the end of any given day, you will see 7-8 updates and maybe - MAYBE - 1 is editorial.

If you look at other similar sites, this is about par for the course. Furthermore, I DO consider this news, as the entire Internet is flooded with anti-PS3 articles, which IS news. I'm responding to that. Just because there may have been a few more editorials over the holidays doesn't mean anything; press releases basically halted the week before Christmas and will start again this week.

Lastly, I'm not "preaching to the choir." To be perfectly honest, I really didn't design this for ANY of our current readers. This is for new readers and fans we might get. ...lest you forget, we are a competing website that needs traffic, and I hate to boast, but over the past couple of years, I think I've done a damn good job of managing this site's content for growth purposes.

OK it was the head ache. Tylenol kicked in and I'm much better now. I'll leave my crazy rambling up for people to laugh at though. Still don't think it's really worth the stupid arguments that will undoubtedly occur but, I'm not angry anymore. lol.

So far so good though nothing major has happened but all the problems seem to occur when the afternoon readers show up. lol.

Let me just clear a few things up here.
The fact that you can call "Jealousy" on the people who are not ps3 fans is ridiculous.
Its not like the PS3 is that hot girl from back at school that you always wished you could have but never had a chance with.
If someone wants a ps3, then they'll buy one... simple... and if they cant afford one and opt instead for a cheaper xbox 360 or wii, then that is nobody else's fault but Sony's.
I'm sure once the ps3 retails at a reasonable price, and all these stunning exclusives are actually here and ready to play, then the ps3 will add some users to its poor uptake so far... only THEN is an article like this worth its salt.

Nextly, I think its important to remember that just because Sony has some nice looking exclusive games for next year, doesn't mean that it will shine brighter than everyone else in the market.
Sony has adopted a policy of late (Mainly because they had to keep people interested) of talking up games that were one, or even two years away... and gues what.. It's worked!
PS3 owners are kept constantly looking to the future, while MS tends to announce and promote games that are ready to drop... case in point, its 2009 portfolio.

The PS3 does have some sweet looking titles coming this year, the ones you've listed above (Killzone 2, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, Infamous and Uncharted 2) are mostly all on my to-buy-list.
But dont forget that the 360 has some big exclusive titles of its own on the horizon.
Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars WILL shift millions of units, and probably a whole heap of consoles too.
Ninja blade is already turning heads with its brilliant demo currently available on live.. seems like a more than worthy successor to Gaiden.
Mass effect 2 continues a superbly original series and should do big numbers again this time.
Splinter Cell: Conviction looks set to be the best splinter cell game yet, by far.
And Remedy's "Alan Wake" looks set to be a definate game of the year contender... as usual with Remdy (I.E Max Payne) they stay silent until a release is imminent.
Project Gotham Racing will release this year, and the series always impresses.
Huxley is now beta testing in Korea, and being the first console MMOFPS it has the potential to be one of the biggest selling games of the year, if not all time.
I'm not even mentioning that 2 GTA4 packs that WILL be the most downloaded DLC of all time.
With some key press conferences coming up, and microsofts nouse for pulling out all the stops to announce big titles due out soon, dont be suprised if the 360 has even more great exclusive games out this year.

I post at the Xbox forums. I mostly just try to get people here to realize not all Xbox owners are as bad as they say they are..We have a good time over their and I have plenty of good times with people over there. Then we go on Live and beat the hell out of eachother!=]

People would be amazed how much we all have in common..Deep down we all love to play games. Its just when people blindly attack and give no respect that I get pissed and need to slap some knowledge.

i'd rather not play it and move on with the ps3. gamers in general do not play 'all' the games that are out there.

so we go with the games we really want to play on a system that 'actually works'.

and yr comment sounds all nice with yr opinionated fabrications. and i dont keep up with game information to that level.

but some of these ps3 guys can counter yr list of games with their ps3 game lists. and its just as competable.

Yeah tabs are amazing.

And yeah I know that. Most people with a 360 do so becuase its affordable.

Many with the money to shell out for a PS3 can easily pick up a 360 for only 70 more then a PS2. No reason to miss out when its that cheap.

I just wanted to reply that I play EVERY game I want to play bar none. I have never not purchased a game I want in over 2 years. Kinda funny I only bought 2 Xbox 360 games this year (one of which I was sorely disappointed in, but that is my fault I was on the fence about it) and looking at that list you have there. Hmmm I will buy Halo Wars. I love the lore that surrounds Halo, but I was definitely disappointed with Halo 3, plus I love RTS. That recon game is simply like a side spin off like Crysis Warhead. Not gonna touch it. Most of the other games you mentioned are all right. Alan Wake being a GotY contender is pretty debatable especially considering the hype went through the roof what 3 years ago? I thought it was supposed to come out in like 2006? The rest blah, I will check reviews. Don't expect anything grand.

I own 36 PS3 games and 11 Xbox 360 games. I prefer my PS3 for multiplat titles because I prefer how the console works, the controller I am pretty iffy about. I like both, but I have had RRoD twice and like Ben has said before I am afraid its going to die on my again if I just look at it funny...

I hate the PS3? Not really.. I prefer the 360 over it. Just believe that each console has their ups and downs. Just because your a fan of one doesn't make the other a POS. I like the online and games better.

If more people would try out a Xbox before they slammed it. Maybe I wouldn't lose brain cells after some of the things iv read.

I'm looking forward to the next Xbox, but I'm also looking forward to the next PlayStation even if it is miles away. I might buy both just so I can experience every game and enjoy it to it's fullest potential. Sure, I might play one more than the other but as long as I get good games I don't care.

I only own a PS3, I want an Xbox but only so I can play with some friends and for some of the exclusives. But now I'm used to not having to pay for online I don't think I'll bother with Xbox. I may buy a 2nd hand one though for cheap so I can play some of the games...

MS is the only American in today's war. Im sorry but I cant help but feel a bit of pride when things go well for them.

And for my best friend friend Kreate I have praised the PS3 before. I think it looks pretty damn good for a gaming console. Also its reliable from what iv heard here (iv heard my share of horror stories..).

The irony of talking about old xbox 360 problems on a thread about how much the ps3 has improved is not lost on anyone here.
If we're talking about the new age ps3, then please compare it to the 360 in a likewise fashion.
Jasper has pretty much eradicated xbox 360 RROD problems, to a point where fails are on par with other consoles... If you're buying a newly produced 360 you're pretty much safe.

Also, Kreate, the term "360 fanboys are dicks" does infact mean that ALL 360 fanbosy are dicks... The omission of the word SOME or MOST are where your statement falls down.

"ARE" is indicitive of be,was,were,is,am etc.
All of which are "actualities", not "generalities"

well some of the wordings u can receive it as u please.

and we always get off topic anyways and most of us are here to talk crap and have fun.

jasper chip is great! nothing wrong with the chip. its not the chip that burns out and causes the RROD.

its the heating issues of the overall well being of the xbox. it melts the connectors on the motherboard that cuases the RROD and xbox to die. thats why the 'towel trick' does work to a certain extent if the connectors re-melts and accidently connects again.

xbox is not as bad as it seems. but the locations of the fans and the heatsinks are positioned incorrectly. if they can relocate some of these parts, the xbox would not burn out. but microsoft is being cheap and has no desire of redesigning the system in such a way.

the xbox to u might be in a 'satisfactory' level. the new xbox with the jasper chip has not been out long enough to make such comment as 'xbox has no more RROD issues' or 'new xbox still has RROD issues'.

as time passes. companies will report their findings and consumers will notice if things goes wrong again. hopefully there isnt more lawsuits filed against microsoft.

but by that time. xbox360 is probably a past, and xbox720 probably would come out boasting a
'indestructable system' motto.

microsoft can be a-holes but i know they will not repeat their mistakes.

The Jasper doesn't change the problem that the hardware melts due to the own heat created by the system. It may run cooler but the problem is still there and the 360's are still being returned.

Sorry 'kreate', but you seem to more of a fanboy than someone who just favors the PS3. And you do not seem very well versed in your comments. Sort of gives people who favor the PS3(such as myself) a bad name.

Of course you should promote the PS3, as it is your favorite system, but don't do it at the cost of mindlessly bashing the 360. I have realized a pattern in your comments that most every time you mention the 360, the 'RRoD' issue is right there with it. Though it may be true, try something else, something other that is factually based in comparison to the PS3.

Heck, I don't have a 360 and don't plan on getting one. Though I do like Gears 2, but I have two friends with 360s for that. Then we just play co-op, so everything works out fine. And other games such as Left 4 Dead, I get on PC as I am an avid PC gamer as well. My PS3 and PC are the only two systems I need.

Ah I bought Left 4 Dead for my PC because I canceled my Live Gold membership. I totally think its a waste of money. So bleh, I understand the multiplayer aspect but I don't like multiplayer and the single player falls really short. At least on the PC version. Control felt sloppy and everything. I am getting the shivers thinking about it.

Hmm, I thought the opposite of Left 4 Dead on PC. Sure it didn't provide very many hours of gameplay, but sure is fun to me, especially when playing with friends. Haven't done much online yet as I am in Iraq right now, but I played a couple of laggy games on my slow internet. It was good fun. And the controls seem pretty much spot on, much like other FPSs on PC.

Though I also have a high-end computer and a 24" monitor with 1920x1200 resolution, so it looks pretty darn good.

people can take things personally and sensitive people might get offended. if i was a psxextreme staff i would put a warning sign about that.

To Shadow and Huso, I, for one, feel if there were as many people like Kreate voicing the legitimate complaints about RRoD and speaking the truth as there were people at Gamestop, for example, inciting the "high-speed stupidity expansion", Microsoft would most likely consider it in their own best interest to actually fix the problem.

Although his first comment in this section may not be entirely representative of his earlier comments that have been typically and wholly straight evidence and elegant logic, he clearly has been doing the work of many, and naturally should be a little irrate. Also, he is/was a 360 owner who experienced RRoD. If 360 owners don't complain, then who will?

does any xbox owners who has the rrod complain? i kind of wonder why they dont. cuz sony listend to complainers about the rumbling issue of the older ps3 controllers so they added it in there for us for free.

if we complain about the problems of the xbox. maybe microsoft can finally fix the issue?
and the xboxlive might become free 1 day?
or at least a 1payment for lifetime deal?

if sony can afford to give free online, microsoft definately can afford to give free online.

Another small point or two here. I'm sure there are reasons besides the ps3 and jealousy why people will never buy a sony product, these reasons are similar to why MS caught a bad rep in the 90's.
For keen gamers like myself, Sony's brutal handling of lik-sang which led to its shut down was a slap in the face of those who loved to import games and consoles from the china/japan. (Apparently people like me who imported a japanese psp's were endangering our lives by using unoficial power supplies???..pah!).
Lik-Sangs customer base read like a who's who in the video game industry, including top execs at Sony, but Sony just couldn't stand for western gamers getting a psp early, despite the fact that the money was going in their own pockets.
By doing this, they essentially took a huge dump on their own fans, and out of the 100,00+ regular lik-sang users, and the millions of others who had used the site once or twice, many of those never forgave sony.
Although i own a ps3, i never forgave sony either, and the more skeptical i became of their handling of gaming and the playstation division, the more i realised that they had completely dropped the ball and that their arrogance alone was likely to destory the company.
This for me was tipified by a comment by sony europe CEO David Reeves on ps3 sales, and i quote..
"the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games"
It summed up sony's arrogance in a neat little package for me. Sony thought the ps brand was indestructable, and that is the reason why they've managed to go from outright domination, to a very high chance of finishing third in console sales this gen... by not caring enough about the fans.

Another reason why there is a growing negative vibe about Sony is that they are trying to take too many markets.
From tvs, consoles, laptops and sat navs to mp3 players, cameras, phones, software and dvd formats.. As im writing this i'm actually chewing on a sony brand Marker pen!
I'm pretty sure some people do not like this kind of market domination.. much like microsoft in the software world i guess.

And Wow.. As if to emphasize my point I just dropped my mouse on the floor and 2 Sony AA batteries rolled out... maybe i like sony more than i thought.

But whats market saturation got to do with their games? im not a huge fan of microsoft when it comes to other things, but that doesn't stop me from playing their games that i want to play. You can choose to be bitter at them and miss out, or just play their games, why should someone miss out on Gears 2 just because they hate windows vista?

No one is talking about market saturation. Maybe you were just confused. The point he's making and what I added are that Sony and Msft are huge companies. As they get big...they try to put their hands into everything. That's where the perception of "evil" corporations come from because eventually they own and control everything.(they don't own everything, just trying to make a point) This doesn't stop me from using xp as my operating system or having a Sony hdtv(120hz kicks ass). I like videogames and own a 360 since launch and a PS3 since Sept of last year. Oh damn, it's freakin 2009 already wtf.

@josh, unless your ps2 just died, im not sure why some would be too pissed off about the loss of backwards compatibility.

Most should still have a ps2, as selling it to gamestop would get you a extra value meal from mc donalds. And gamestop sells them at dirt cheap if you buy it used, slims go for $69.99 (fattys go for $59.99) at everyone's hated store, gamestop.

Because of the loss, the price is a lot cheaper than what it use to be. Sure you may lose convenience in having a 3 in 1 system, but its not as big of a deal as some try to make it out to be. Hell, you even end up saving a few dollars if you buy a ps2 and a ps3 if you get the ps2 used like i said.

Economics :

Higher demand for the less costly product(360) which offers basic next-gen functions(graphics & gaming) opposed to more costly product(ps3) offering basic functions plus other bonuses,as a result consumers will opt for the cheaper product.

Consumer behavior :
-Hence consumers with the cheaper console will do there utmost best to protect,support,love their console and definitely bash the expensive product simply due to the inability to afford or unwillingness to spend extra cash on the expensive product thus the reason for xbots.

-Consumers with the expensive one will do likewise that is support,back their console in any situation due to the constant guilt they might suffer, for ditching out a whole load of cash for their product's purchase, and that said product seems to remain less popular than the cheaper one.Thus the existence of the ps3fanboys.

Well ok since we are going for a record. Everyone here knows that I am a PS3 fan period. I infinitely prefer my PS3 over my 360 but that doesn't mean I don't have anything on the PS3 that I think needs changing.

So first lets talk about the video section on the Playstation Store. It really bugs me that everything there seems so expensive. I mean yea some of it is ok, but I mean the one thing I really want to watch on there is X'amd and you don't even have the option of buying it. You can only rent it for 24 hours or however it works. In fact no HD content can be bought. It all has to be rented, at least the last time I checked. I would probably pay $5.99 to buy each episode of X'amd in HD, but dangit not just to rent it for 24 hours. It is just preposterous!

Secondly, in game custom soundtracks. Where the heck are they? I haven't been able to do it on a single game I have tried including Home. If there is one place you should be able to listen to your own songs it should be Home.

Secondly I really don't like the back trigger buttons on the controller. I thought the Dualshock 2 was way better with the simple button. I hate games that put a really important button on that trigger and make it so you can't change it. I am not saying I dislike any controller more than another in fact I find myself almost totally neutral when it comes to the controllers on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

And you know I am sure there are more I just can't think of them now at 3:52 in the morning.

i also dont think that sony is without things that need to be changed for the better.

Some might not agree with me, but as it stands, Home is a complete waste of time and space. Its a beta, i know, but damn, its just a boring waste of time. Maybe it will get better with time, who knows. The pricing is outrageous for your avatars and there really isnt a need to ever really use home. Sony dropped the ball when they didnt find a way to use trophies as some type of currency, it was there chance to one up achievements but it hasn't happened. As far as im concerned, they are about equal in terms of usefulness ( meaning not that useful except for e-penis stroking )

And for the love of god, i have never heard the word "potential" so much until home arrived. "Home has potential" is all you ever hear in its defense. Well F*** home and its potential for now, maybe i will change that opinion later on.

Really LOVING their games though, thats probably what they should stick to. Just way too many good exclusives hitting the ps3 this year along with multi platform games, i prefer my ps3 for those nowadays

As a 360 fan and a relatively new PS3 owner, maybe I should get some things off my chest too. How do ya'll like that opener? Anyways...as I've said in another thread - RROD sucks and I've experienced it. I have a launch 360. Msft really fudged up on that and they payed over 1 billion for it in the form of extended warranties. They deserved it and rightfully got it up the ass.(no offense to gays o.O) Speaking of lineups: I love me my halos, gears, mass effect, etc. but the PS3's 2009 lineup is going to be an unstoppable freight train from start to finish. If you don't own a PS3 you are going to miss out on some of best gaming experiences you'll have ever and not to mention games like LBP and Valkyria from 2008.

Accurate comment that takes me back to November 4 as this was pretty much the behaviour Republicans were exhibiting about everything. As far as Sony bashing goes, the PS3 is not competing with Wii and XBox360 imo. If it were 'competing' it would be the same price as those units. The only common thing between the three is they are all primarily 'game consoles'. It's obvious the PS3 is way ahead of either of these units and with the bluray feature among other things anyone who complains about the price of the PS3 has not really taken one out for a spin yet. I took my PS3 and Rock Band 2 setup over to a friends for New Year's eve as they were having a party and it was all hooked up to a beautiful, new 46" Samsung plasma telly and a few people who were playing Rock Band had Wii and XBox360 but never actually saw a PS3 in action and just about everyone was blown away with the design and all the features and I am quite certain alot of them went home to their Wii's and 360's the next day and realized they now have 'dated' hardware, hehe. You want quality, you pay for it. Methinks it'll take MS a long time to design anything on par with the PS3 but it'll be fun to watch them try. 2009 will almost certainly be the year of the PS3.

couldn't agree with whooka more. people really need to see the ps3 in action and not compare it to other systems. and yes I believe the ps3 is in a league of its own, lets say msoft was to support blu ray don't you think their console would go up in price, or if they added wireless adapaters? trust me they would not throw in these things for free, yet in the same breath people complain of the ps3 being so pricey when it has everything in one neat little package for a reasonable price. but then people come out saying I don't need all that I just need a gaming system which imo seems like a fair comeback. But in these times that technology allows us to have these kinds of advancements you would just rather have a gaming system? I would take a free 360 in a heartbeat and I assure you every non owning ps3 xbox owner would take a ps3 in less then a heartbeat, the thing here is simple. they just can't afford a ps3 and try to make the best of their xbox by defending it and saying it is a better system when in reality the only good thing about it is its online and price.
Lets just see where xbox and ps3 stand by the end of 2009. By the way I'll be in the crowd pointing and saying I told you so.

ah, yes, great point I keep forgetting to mention during rants. one definite reason the xbox360 is so popular is it's been modded out the wazzoo and it's extremely easy to find, download, and play pirated releases of those games right off the Internet. that's probably what caused some of these 'more software actually sold for the ps3 then xbox360' stats we saw last year.

Ben, Well written article.
I have to agree i know alot of people that own a 360 and they always tell me that their console is so much better, until they go through not 1 repair but multiple repairs then they see me with my PS3 and see how long i've had it and havent' had a repair then they open their eyes to see the potential of the console. like i've said before M$ doesn't care about the consumers they care about whats going into their pocket at the end of the day. They have high sales not due to new consumers but ones that have ot buy another console instead of wanting to take it through a repair process it's easier to buy a new one, and M$ knows thats what people are going to do instead. If they seriously cared would they not actually figure out how to fix 100% of the RROD or the scratching issues to games ect.. nope and to me thats shady.

Well, 2008 was for me totally PS3. I got like 18 games for my PS3 and Bioshock and Gears 2 for my 360.

In 2009, and knowing the confirmed games for the year, I'll be getting at least GoW3, KZ2, HR, U2:AT in my PS3 and nothing in my 360. Kind of sad.

I won't be renewing my XBL account

as well for me 2009 I might spend more money on my ps3. I am what you consider a game collector I buy all the games that appeal to me play em and never sell em I have at least 40 games plus on my ps3 so I see no reason to the comments of ps3 has no games, when I have so many that I have enjoyed thoroughly as for xbox prob just prob looking forward to ........um alan wake I guess just to look forward to something on the xbox I guess

I have been browsing around and come across this. To be more accurate though, the places I have seen point out that if Sony are closing any number of divisions, just about any of them are up for grabs.

I don't think it will be the SCE section myself, but people being reluctant to believe other sections being closed... Well, you should be able to understand where they are coming from.

Blu-ray... I have only seen the following movies on blu-ray. Casino Royale, The Godfather Part I and Part II. Maybe its because I am "only" watching it on a 32" but I don't see the big deal. Besides, blu-ray has a long road to go to kill off DVD.

But, yes. The gameplay benefits of having blu-ray are obvious.

I'm mostly anticipating games that are multiplatform, I have to admit. But, if you want to be reminded of some exlusives going to the 360, there is...

Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Halo Wars, Star Ocean 4.

Granted, most gamers who own a PS3 and a gaming PC probably have no need for a 360. Which someone was bound to point out. I would point out that is hardly the majority.

Also, in terms of the multiplatform games, it has often proven to be the case that games released on both platforms run better on the 360. Not because of having better hardware, but because it is often the lead platform, or easier to develop for.

Honestly, I don't want to see SCE die. I am, however, hoping that egotistical attitude they have had will stay the hell away. And they avoid the terrible PR of old.

Oh, I would also like to point out that if some division of Sony was to close, which one it will be is something no one here can guess. I would challenge the headline and the attitude of the news article itself, as it has a chest beating attitude when Sony as a company is in no such position.

Personally I think articles like this only add more fuel to the fire. Think about it, how often does this topic (or topics closely related) come up? At least every month you guys post an article about "fanboy'ism", "which system is better" "Who's d!@k is bigger", etc etc. When does it end? It's one thing to inform your readers but it's another thing altogether when you constantly talk about this issue and feed the "flames". I think if you and "us" as gamers and PS3 enthusiasts, would just ignore all the "haters" out there, they will eventually go away. So what do you say PSX? How about leading by example and stop the madness?

ive been called a blind fanboy, but its funny that i own a ps3 n a elite and at one point had more games on the 360 do to friends giving away there junk lol. but its true its the blind ignorance that fuels the fighting most of the my friends are XBOTS n they are rediclous most of them has never even seen the ps store yet they bash it, let alone every even been n the presence of a ps3 yet they bash. funny. at first there was hundreds of jokes about how much heat the PS3 puts off yet the 360 melts du to heat lol n yes the elite melts 2. Its sad that XBOTS seem to think their GOW n HALO destroys all, iv played n enjoyed them both but they are not the MJ of videogames IMO THEY ARE OVERRATED

It has passed the 360 in terms of quality exclusives. It has passed the 360 in terms of reliability. And it has passed the 360 by way of media format. Regarding sales numbers, Wii has surpassed everything. So, I don't take those too seriously, nor have I ever been one to ride the bandwagon.

although i don't agree with the person im replying to on everything, Pushtrak, you might wanna think outside the box, its not impossible for the ps3 to surpass the 360 in terms of sales, but this race will likely end in a stalemate with those 2 and nintendo staying on top somehow.

Prices drop, games have been coming out, sales rise high. its bound to happen where one system goes thru a cool down period and one catches up. It was the case with the 360 price drop and will be the case when another price drop happens for the ps3 along with a huge game like god of war 3 hits.

From the games i have heard about, im not seeing too many on the 360 that will move even more units than it already has this year. the halo games will sell really well, but i think those who are into halo already have a 360 right now. There are many people who would be very tempted by a price drop and god of war 3 arriving

IMHO The 360 only has a 2 things on the PS3 but these things can EASILY be fixed.

Controller - The 360's feels much better to hold and the analog sticks feel a lot better. However, I can get a PS3 controller with different sticks off the internet for like $60 which is good.

XBL - PSN isn't as good and I don't like home. Just a gimick. However, All Sony exclusives are Sony hosted online which is always excellent (MGS4, Resistance, Killzone and SOCOM)

Yeah, I didn't really understand the anti-PS3 articles. The "evidence" that is given usually is the fact that the 360 outsold the PS3 in November of 2008.....but what I find interesting is that they didn't mention all the months before it when the PS3 was flying off of the shelves.

Did you read the article? They are facing the prospect of closing divisions. Which divisions are up in the air. The article here states that people were talking about this marking the end times for the PS3.

The person who wrote the article here seems to assume that such thoughts are fanboyism, and not related to the realities of business.

I was attempting to show that the future isn't the sunniest for Sony right now.

I'd say they show no signs of slowing down, the ten year plan for PS3 is on and cutback rumors are flying in all big corporations, to assume it spells doom for the game console is just clinging to lame hopes that the rival company will fail. Gah, I hate hearing about this 10 year plan. Anyway, games-wise, the best games will remain muultiplatform. The attach rate for 360 gamers is over 8 now. Maybe even closer to 9. Thats the kind of thing that makes multiplatform the logical choice.

Yes, it seems Microsoft will be cutting 17% of its staff. Mostly related to MSN it seems. It is fact that their gaming section will not feel the blow though. Still, its sad to see layoffs of such numbers whatever company it is, Microsoft, Sony, whoever.

Haven't heard any similar stories from Nintendo but thats not to say it isn't happening.

While you are correct on that, you miss the point. Its funny, when Sony have put the most into a console, the PS3 its when they lose their advantage in the console wars. The PS1 and PS2 were behind the competition in terms of horsepower, but ahead in price. This is just the flipside.

Actually, after HaloWars is done most of the team will be absorbed into Microsoft Game Studios. It was more about trimming the fat than losing talent. So if you see future Age of Empires games, it would be basically a change of name in terms of developers. They were just consolidating their gaming divisions.

Ah, you're right. I stand corrected. Some are going to stay with MGS but most...about half of the original studio will form a new independent studio. Supposedly they've been contracted to do future support for HaloWars and other projects I guess like a 2nd party. Msft supposedly has plans for future Age of games.

Speaking of RTS games...I'm really looking forward to Stormrise by Creative Assembly from Sega. I love the Total War series and I'm intrigued with what they'll bring with Stormrise for the home consoles.

The fact is compared to 360 PS3 doesn't have that many good games Halo Wars, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Gears 1, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Fable 2, and GTAIV lost and the damned vs. MGS4 (which may go multiplatform), Resistance 1 and 2, Ratchet and clank future, Uncharted 1 and 2, LBP, and god of war III. PS3 game library is improving but it can still not compare to 360's. Also PS3 does not have netflix and home is boring 3 out of 4 IGN editors said so the other said it was OK. And a study in Belgium showed that the 40 gig PS3 has a 40% failure rate.

many good games considered by whom? I could give a rats ass about halo 3 odst which is an expansion yet people talk about it like its a game, gears 2 was more of the same but I liked gears 1 so its not a bad thing, I didn't like mass effect, and 2 isn't even out yet so how can you like a game before its out? and gtaIV dlc is not a new game just added dlc as for left 4 dead couldve been a downloadable on xbl. so xbox has better games because you say so? i believe that is a matter of opinion. I would say the same thing about my ps3 and I could mention the games I have enjoyed on it but im pretty sure that is time well wasted with you. is it just me or jealousy kicking in?

At least if you were to get the RROD you would have a three year warranty. When two of my friends had PS3s that stopped reading discs, they had to cough up the cash to have them replaced, or repaired. Or whatever they do.

MGS 4 is not going to go to the 360. Honestly, I would actually like if they brought 3 over. A revamped 3 would be great. Would make the playing of it again that much better.

The 40% line was denied, and the source deleted the accusation.

Aw, sweet sentiment. Pity the reality doesn't hold to that. They had huge problems with the PS1 and PS2 disc readers. Horror stories abound on both consoles.

They had to be brought to court over the PS2 with its laser problems. They claimed not to be at fault, but the courts decided they would need to set up a refurbished consoles system.

Don't try to make it look like Sony have historically well made systems. Nintendo has that honour.

never said Sony was an angel. but in my opinion they made a good machine this time. and the PS2 is still selling well even as it begins to die so i think they fixed that in under 2 years. its a risk you take when you put a newer type of disk drive in a game system. we all learn from our mistakes. third times the charm... right?

For me, I hardly ever actually buy those Live packages. I usually get a one month free subscription with games, and only use them when I know I will be on Live a lot.

But, hey, don't bother putting too much thought into that. Otherwise you might all lose a easy point you had against the 360.

Oh, and about Molyneux. I happen to hate the guy. Fable was nothing on its promises and I have no interest in trying the 2nd one. I'm still half expecting him to apologise and say it didn't meet the promises he had made.

Does anyone have a feeling like fanboys will continue to level up and upgrade themselves so they can more convincingly hide away their, well, fan-boyishness as consoles get better?

There's some good deceivers out there but deep inside they might just be ignorant and jealous people lolololololololz (throwing away all seriousness with that LOL xD )

And just a few minutes ago I read a recent interview with Peter Molyneux (forgot the publisher). I'm not gonna' go into detail but it was mainly about how games might be getting to difficult [used GTA IV as an example, that ****head lol] and he even said the PS3 was "disappointing to say the least" in 2008. What the Duck..!!!

^ ^ ^ I dunno' about you he's just a total egghead. How many 'great' games has he made in the past 4 years? He's been so up his own a$$ recently.
He even said something about 2009 looking dull... Once again, what terrific title is he releasing this year?

kinda hard for it to be bullshit if its really true, people all over the gaming industry can see it, if you can sit there and say they (nintendo) are selling systems because of their "fantastic" games that have bombarded us this year, i can say that Haze was the best damn game this generation.

Everybody with a brain has to respect Nintendo. In a time where it was looking more and more like they would be forced to go the way of Sega or Atari (after 2 bad console cycles), they abandoned the model that they had created and made an entirely new industry. The Wii isn't in the same class as 360 and PS3. It is it's own industry in and of itself. It took balls for Nintendo to decide that the Wii wasn't a horrible idea, I love them for gambling their future on such an untested device. And for their risk the reward was an entirely new market that nobody knew existed. Most of the people buying Wiis have no interest in other game machines.

I think people need to wise up the Wii isn't like a PS3 or 360 and shouldn't be compared it's unfair for anyone involved.

I agree with Shadow. The other two. . . came completely out of nowhere and didn't understand what I was saying. In fact, they unwittingly helped give an example of what I mean. :D

EDIT: Well, to be fair, Advent Child gave no such example. He didn't seem to know where I was coming from and indirectly suggested that I should read more of the articles. He may have a point. :P

You still haven't answered my question, but its ok, there really isn't a good answer that can be given in defense of nintendo on this one.

Make no mistake, i knew what you meant, but to say the BS is flying their way because of success they are having is false, its the lack of quality games. Not expecting ps3,360 caliber type games as far as looks, but they still need to put out something worthwhile more than twice or 3 times a year

no one doubts that nintendo has been successful this gen, but at the same time, where are the games? enough f***ing shovelware already, makes some games thats worth the time and effort.

That's the thing: different people like different games. Clearly. You say it's not BS if it's true. Well, the BS isn't true (thus, it being "BS"). Not liking certain scapegoat games or being a grumpy graphics whore is not an excuse to disregard the Wii as a gaming console or a next-gen console or whatever, just as not liking the style of LBP or the high price of the PS3 or whatever is no excuse to ring its death bell or to angrily smite it with hurtful e-words. :P

It's all BS -- maybe not entirely baseless, but born from opinion, which means a bag of flaming crap in the real world as long as these consoles are selling and pleasing their audiences. My point in responding to this article and similar ones is to show how the very same thing is happening elsewhere to other things, sometimes (a lot of the time) hypocritically by the people who were just complaining about THEIR injustices.

*spits* Console wars are really stupid, you know.

I've had a good time with my Wii so far. 2008 was admittedly kind of weak toward the end, though. I'll give you that; I think anyone with sense would give you that.

That's exactly the thing though Aaron. You are looking for Nintendo to release things that appeal to gamers. Nintendo's system isn't for gamers anymore. The market that is making up the bulk of Wii sales absolutely love what is coming out for that little white box. Nintendo has to appeal to their market, and at least right now that's not us.

I also want to add that I think the "shovelware" argument is BS. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of half-baked stuff appearing, BUT they are not selling well the majority of the time. Also, the argument very clearly ignores the fact that the market-leading console is ALWAYS victim to quick cash-ins, whether we're talking about the old Ataris or the NES or the last two Playstations or the Gameboys or the DS or the Wii or whatever.

Thank you, you have admitted what some find wrong with the wii, it not being for gamers, are you defending them? if so that kinda doesn't help. Isn't a wii a video GAME entertainment system? I loved metroid, mario galaxy, even the last zelda game was a blast to me, no more heroes was awesome, are you saying those games aren't meant for gamers shadow? it seems nintendo thinks otherwise.

And lets be honest, its not that they are loving whats coming out of the little white box, id be willing to bet that quite a few of those wii purchases are impulse purchases, its the "coolest" toy to have at this point, you go to a party and non gamers see it and they want it. Highly doubting those casual gamers like gramps and grandma are gonna be purchasing more than one or 2 games for it ( if that, yay wii sports )

i guess you missed it when i said im not expecting ps3/360 caliber games as far as looks are concerned, meaning graphics. Far from being a graphics whore my friend, it doesnt excuse all of the lackluster titles that have been running amok on the system. All systems have games like that, but the wii seems to specialize in it

Wait a sec there... Two bad console cycles isn't an accurate statement. The gamecube actually made huge profits because of how low it cost to manufacture. I believe they made a profit from day one. I remember reading a few years ago (from a trusted site) can't find it now that it actually had more a profit over the PS2 at that point.

Nintendo only have games. They don't have any other divisions to keep them afloat, so them having money makers like the DS and the Wii was just what they needed.

Maybe the gamecube wasn't a complete failure of a console but you can't say Nintendo was happy with how things turned out. PS2 sold what 5 times more consoles?

So maybe comparing it to Sega and Atari's last couple cycles wasn't correct but it's not a complete bust of an analogy is it? lol

For me, it's not too bad being a PS cult member,.....it's the spin-off of their earlier cults, which I happen to be member of, LOL.

Just to let ya know, I've got 5 GS's, & a EB within 10 miles of me and all of their stores treat me right, no bashing any systems, and nobody's always up my ass, trying to hook me up with their personal picks.

But at the same time, they're alway there to help ASAP when I'm looking for any used PS1,PS2 & X-box gamse I'm having trouble finding. I've even had them call me at home to tell me that I left my gaming & DVD lists there.

Anyway, I don't know for sure, maybe it's because there's hardly any employee turnover at those 5 stores, but I've never had any problems with GS/EB staffer's what so ever.

So ya got 1 "thumbs up" from me.

Now, that's what I call some good customer relations on his part.

Not sure how far my 5 stores go for midnight madness cause I only buy used.

Over the last 200+ games, the only brand spanking new game I ever bought was on the afternoon of the 1st day release, "Ace Combat 4"(and to this day, I still haven't been able to catch up & destroy that damned enemy cruise missle yet, LOL)

I have AC series 1 thru 5, including Zero, but I've only gotten to finish 1, 2, & 3 so far.

And since I'm still stuck on AC-4's cruise missle seek & destroy mission, I havent even gotten to play 5 or Zero yet.

Hell, it took me a month to figure ut that I actually had to go "THRU"(& not around or over) that mountain to finish the stage in AC-3(if I remember which one correctly).

And about the newest AC-6, it pissed me off that they jumped ship to the 360, cause I try to buy my all my used "series" games on one company's consoles whenever possible.
BTW, a used copy of AC-Zero's was so hard to find, it took me almost a full year to grab it.

Anyways, I hope that some frigging year in this decade, I'll be able to even get to the final dude in Zero that you're talking bout, LMFAO

I've only played 4, 5, and Zero. In 4 you're in the mission after the one where you have to fly through that base right. Where you are actually flying inside of a structure. That one gave me fits for a long time too. I finally figured it out, though I can't remember the trick to it anymore.

5 is tons of fun but it is pretty easy. I beat it in like a day or two.

Zero is probably the least fun of the ones I've played. The problem is that it is a prequel to 5 so you know how the story ends more or less. It's pretty simple until the last 2 or 3 missions those are killer.

It is pointless to argue about the systems. I bought a 360 like 2 years ago and I just bought a PS3 like a month ago. I got 360 first because i loved my Xbox. I usaully buy all the systems. I just have to get a Wii now. I love all systems for different reasons. I wouldn't be able to give up either system. I hate haveing to pay for online gaming. There for i love PSN. I also love the Blu-ray player. I love both systems for games. I hate when 360 fans say that PS3 has no games. They do have games and loads more on the way.

In my personal opinion I think in the long run ps3 is cheaper. I own both systems but if you buy the 199.00 xbox it dosn't even come with a harddrive or wireless controller. you add in the harddrive your looking at another 100 dollers and another 60 for the controller. You can by a 400 dollar ps3 it comes with an 80 gig harddrive wireless controller built in bluray and wifi. If you have to buy wifi for the 360 your looking at another 100 dollars so that puts the system over 400 dollars and you still dont get bluray.

hehe, most powerful system, i love hearing that, since i have a ps3 and all, and here's my analogy to the big 3: 1. the Wii: a little four-banger (not all that powerful, but damn fun); 2. the 360: a Hemi (powerful and is exclusive in a way); the PS3: a fu**ing jet-engine (insanely powerful, and can do way more than what it's currently doing)

wow that's a lot of comments anyway I just want to say that I wish multiplatform games like lord of the rings conquest had 1080p graphics, custom soundtracks, customizable controls, servers that don't lag & disconnect & had an easy drive join similar to burnout paradise's that keeps servers from having less than the full 16 player capacity because they get down to 6 on a side which isn't much fun , clear ungarbled voice chat & more people on headset speaking intelligently & clearly so that PS3 online games like lord of the rings conquest might be as good on the PS3 as their pc & xbox counterparts.
