Public Killzone 2 Demo Won't Hit PSN Until After Game Launches

You should already know about the Killzone 2 pre-order incentive at GameStop, but if not, we'll remind you: pre-purchase the game, and you'll get a special code that unlocks access to an exclusive playable demo. And apparently, when they say "exclusive," they mean it.

Perhaps you've been thinking that you won't go to all the trouble of pre-ordering the game; you'll just wait for a demo to hit the PlayStation Store. You're saying to yourself, "eh, it's probably the exact same demo, and it'll come soon." But according to PS3Fanboy, while such a demo is indeed coming, it won't arrive until after the hotly anticipated title has launched. SCEA was pretty clear- "The demo will be available on the PSN after the game ships but only through GameStop until then." Just about every major gaming source, including this one, has made it abundantly clear that Killzone 2 is a can't-miss game; it might even redefine the FPS genre and become an instant Game of the Year candidate upon its release at the end of February. Therefore, the idea of a demo should excite you, unless you were one of the lucky few to try the game during the closed beta testing last year. So why not plunk down the five bucks to get your GameStop pre-order? You can either drive down to the store, where they'll physically hand you the code, or you can do it online, where you will be e-mailed the code some time after February 3.

At the time of the previous announcement, most GameStops didn't have any codes just yet, but we contacted several in our area and most said they should see them within a few days or a week. Therefore, they should be showing up right about now...don't miss out!

Dumb move by Sony. They need to build hype for this game before it releases, not after.

Plus I really want to play this game now.

They hype is built! Though, I wouldn't give any thanks to Sony. It's been all the beta testers and publications. Sony couldn't hype a room full of ADD kids on Red Bull.

the one i pre ordered it at didnt have it yet and they said they werent gonna get them till like a few weeks before the game comes out :( i should just reserve it online people who work at gamestop are incredibly stupid

I say it's a good move by Sony, Demos (even for great games) have a way of turning people off. Look at what happened to Valkyria Chronicles.

So if we can only get this through Gamestop, how will they convince the flood of customers to dump PS3 and buy 360?

Amen to that. Demos tend to come out hazier and a bit pixelated. That is marketing suicide. Why GameSTOP though? They do have plenty of XBot trolls there...

I went to reserve my copy today and got my code but when I typed it in it said the code was invalid I feel like I got screwed I wanted to play this game so bad Im pissed

If you went to gamestop they gave you the promotion card and with just a little bit of reading it says code available from 2/5/09 - 2/26/09 so just wait until february 5th and it should be there

I guess I may have to buy Resistance 2 after all (I was planning to skip for Killzone 2 which I presumed was gonna' have the same release date in NZ)

I noticed The Warehouse close to me sold Valkyria Chronicles before the US and EU release date. So I was like, "Wow, how can this be?" xD LOLz

EDIT: Wait then doesn't that mean NZ & AUS will get the demo 'before' the game is released? Haha

I am on the fence about the demo. I mean I want to play it but I also know that if I play it I won't be able to wait for the full game. Plus pre-ordering it means that I would have to order online and pay for shipping whereas I can get it sooner here at Wal-Mart.

Just pre-order it, get the card, cancel your pre-order ^_~. Also to the people who havn't been able to get your codes to work, really think about it, there hasn't been an Update for the PS Store last week so it's obviously it's no even there, and I'm pretty sure they won't release the demo for one set of ppl and not the other who pre-ordered online, so I'm sure the demo will go live Feb 3.

I feel a little lost after the Beta closed :( But because I played it for like 6 weeks already... I know what to expect, at least the multi-player anyways... but yes, if you tasted it now, it would be difficult to wait for the full game... roll on Killzone 2!

Yes, it is as good as hyped... the graphics are beyond what you would expect... full AA anti-aliasing; good texture resolution, some of the best lighting and lens flare effects I have seen, and a decent amount of destructibility in the environments.

The controls are similar to what you would expect for a shooter, like COD. Only gripe I have is the zoom target view which you have to click in and out of. In COD you just hold down L1 and you zoom; whilst in the Killzone 2 Beta I had to press to zoom and press again to zoom out again...

The controls where also NOT definable. Again I think this may have been changed... I hope so.

On the killzone 2 demo card it says the demo for it doesnt go live until 2/5/09. well it actually says the card is only valid from 2/5/09-2/26/09 so i dont think its really the 3rd as much as it is the 5th.

God people you are all so damn greedy. I'll be kind enough to enlighten you crazies, the demo wont become available until Feb 5th. Do not cancel your reserve based solely on your own ignorance. Ask next time or read the signs they have up in the store. Please stop blaming Gamestop for your inability to read. Im giving you all a heads up because I care and I love Killzone 2, but also because I work on the inside and have this info. FEB. 5th, mark it down, thats when you will be able to play the demo, and it ends the night before the game releases. You are all welcome.

There may be a card, Im not 100% on that, all I can say is provide your e-mail address for sure when you reserve it, and you should get an e-mail on the day the demo goes live.

Am surprised u folks don't worry too much as to when games like FFvXIII will be released n u keep nagging about a demo when the full game is bout 1 month away.

lol...i felt the exact same way, bro. when the beta closed I was like, maybe it still works. I would start the beta and try to connect to the US server...nothing. Then, I would lie to myself saying "maybe the european servers are still up." try to connect....nothing. I looked at R2 like, "u aren't good enuff. I need Killzone!" lol and R2's a great game.

so, then I got back to R2. telling everybody I played with about how great that beta was. and how it was so fun. how its the next legendary shooter like halo 1 or goldeneye. and that it was the reason why I wasn't playing R2 sessions with my clan.

Man, I miss that game.

I'm very tempted to walk up to the mall (or get a ride from my lil' bro) to pre order K2 and secure a demo. Then again with a 40gb PS3 size matters...

Btw I've been contemplating deleting my Linger in Shadows will that delete my trophies with it as well?

i thought that by preordering the game meant you get the demo that day. but u get the code. u still cant play the demo till feb 5. which is ok but i was just hoping to be able to come home and try it out now. ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
