Insomniac Member On Killzone 2: "It Is Indeed Awesome"
It's one thing to get the media behind a game and promote it, but it's quite another when another developer praises the production's quality.
In a recent NeoGAF post, Insomniac community manager JStevenson said he loved Killzone 2 - just beat it, in fact - and to echo just about every source's sentiments: yes, "it is indeed awesome." Here's the full post-
"I did indeed beat KZ2 tonight and it is indeed awesome. I know there will be plenty of comments, opinions, accolades and nitpicks, but for me, the game was fun. My favorite part of the game was when you get this certain weapon. I really really love it and I got the trophy for oh so fast - wish it was available more.
Anyways --- major props to all the folks at GG."
We're not quite sure which weapon he's talking about, but we can find out within the next few weeks. Thing is, certain publications have already received the final build of the game, and although there's a strict embargo on reviews (talk about frustrating), we...ah...might know what Stevenson is talking about. Anywho, another interesting tidbit to consider is that Insomniac and Sony's Santa Monica studio helped Guerilla create the AI algorithms for KZ2. That's good news because, if you've already forgotten, Insomniac is responsible for some awesome games themselves (the recent Resistance 2 included), and Santa Monica is hard at work on God of War III.
Yep, the Killzone 2 hype continues to build, but it's not just journalists and Guerilla who are telling you this now; it's other developers, too. You should pay attention...

At any rate, I have high hopes for this game. In the past, all of the PS3 games Sony has flexed its hype muscle for have surpassed my expectations. (First with MGS4, and most recently with LittleBigPlanet.) I expect no less from K2.
JStevenson is right though about the nitpicking. It won't be universally well recieved, we are knee deep in Fanboyism this generation and the Microsoft alliance seems to be in denial when one of our flags waves brilliantly over head. Oh well.
((Prepares to enjoy K2, ignorant to the rants on the internet battlegrounds))

Killzone 2 will be a tactical shooter, much like Call of Duty 4/World at War. You'll have to think more than just run and gun. Halo is a run-and-gun shooter; you grab a gun and run at your enemies as fast as you can since it takes more than 2 bullets to kill you.
Also, Halo is centered around the melee attack. I'll bet some people on Live have more beat down kills than they do kills with a gun. Killzone 2's melee attack isn't like that--partially because it's not as powerful (I think) and because it's harder to run up on an enemy like that.
Bottom line, people who want mindless shooting games where you just grab and shoot will still prefer Halo. People looking for a more tactical experience will (hopefully) now be looking to KZ2.

We received news later that it was all pre-rendered. Well that somewhat stopped the hype, but the hype started reviving at E3 07 when Phil Harrison said out loud "Everything you're about to see...is in real-time" BAM!!! Helghast faces in every single screen at the place. You're immediately thrown in the action, you see a guy in flames, you see thunder hit the environment, you see bullets gazing past you, you see your allies being taken down as they come to land, and then you see 2 people trying to make a plan - that's where you come in.
You try to blast through the door with your ally and rip the Helghast coming on your right with your bullets. It continues...but from all that...they hype of Killzone 2 revived.
Then in E3 08 there was a playable demonstration of Killzone 2 shown to the folks at IGN. Some of us unfortunately couldn't even watch of have a good time because of the announcement that day about FFXIII going multiplatform. But I WAS PAYING ATTENTION - and I heard that there will be some destructible environments. The graphics looked 2x better than what I saw from before.
Now...it all comes down to February 27, 2009. With all this hype getting almost as big as the one we had for MGS 4. WILL IT DELIVER?!?! IMO nothing will ever deliver as much as MGS 4 did, but WILL KZ2 deliver the right amount or possibly even more than what we'll expect?? Or will KZ2 turn out to be just an ok kind of game...like a 7.5 rating or something like that??
About 1-2 weeks ago, IGN did a preview of the first couple of missions of KZ2. They of course thought the graphics look amazing. Some of us here think the graphics look amazing but we're looking at it through a medium. Say Youtube. Youtube...the site that completely deteriorates the quality of a video??? YES that's the one. So on an LCD HDTV at 1080p - how do you think Killzone 2 will look. Some of you might already know from the online multiplayer beta - but that's still not the completed version. I have know question in my mind that KZ2 will absolutely be graphically impressive.
What about gameplay, will that deliver??? Will there be intense moments like the one shown in the E3 06 trailer??? Will the be moments were you feel as if you would almost fall off your seat when you're hit by a grenade in KZ2??? In other words will you be surprised by what KZ2 will have to offer??? Well...haha we'll all see 02/27/09 won't we?? This day will mark the beginning of PS3's 2009 year. Will it start off at a rocky start...or one solid dominating start???
We will all see...so what I strongly suggest is to not get it on the first day unless you read a review from somewhere. Go check on various sources not just Playstation dedicated ones. GO ON EGM (1UP), IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer (although they sucked during MGS4), Famitsu, GameTrailers, Game Informer, and maybe G4TV.

Btw, any effing reviewer who gives this game less than 100% rating is a PS3 hater or jealous of it. The game is THAT freaking good. I played the BETA and it was jaw-dropping from action, camera motion, graphics, guns, weapons, classes, destrucbable enviorements, lightning, colors, CG real-time, and the MANY MANY features the game has.
