Sony Asks: "What Are You Looking Forward To Most In 2009?"
It's the theme of the day! Insomniac Community Manager just got finished telling us how "awesome" Killzone 2 really is, and now, we see that many other industry insiders and executives have chimed in with their PlayStation expectations for 2009.
This is a great read: it's over at the official UK PlayStation site and the article is called, What Are You Looking Forward To Most On PlayStation In 2009?". Everyone from Sony to Midway to Konami to Sega to Bethesda has offered their comments, and they're all worth your time. Here's what SCEE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said:
"2009 will be the year of big, exclusive PS3 titles. Just to name a few, the year will start with the much anticipated launch of Killzone 2, followed by a fresh, new take on the superhero/anti-hero open sandbox genre inFamous, a mind-bending thriller Heavy Rain, a massive 256 player simultaneous online shooter MAG, an augmented reality, virtual pet in your room experience EyePet, and some more big titles that we have not even announced yet. On PSP, we have new titles and innovations that will connect and expand the PlayStation experiences."
Then, as you will find way down at the bottom, the Lead Producer for Fallout 3, Gavin Carter, said he thinks the Final Fantasy titles look amazing, and he "feels faint" when he thinks of the potential of God of War III. That's high praise, especially since it's coming from someone who helped create one of the finest titles of 2008. Alpha Protocol Producer Tim Ernst also said that GoWIII should be nothing short of epic, and Ron Festejo, Creative Director at SCE London Studios, said Resident Evil 5 has got him "salivating." Oh, there are all kinds of expectations from all sorts of people, and it really amps us up. We can't wait for the big games to come down the pike this year, and when the dust has settled, don't be surprised to see the PS3 in a new, and even better, position...

Edit: Only one game has released in a month other than March. God of War: Betrayal came to mobile platforms in June of 2007.

Re-read your reply, and then point out to me the numerical value attached.
Not a big deal, but I've noticed a lot of people making that mistake and it can be misleading to those looking to make an informed purchase.
COD: World at War is like a spin-off from the original series, not a direct sequel. When they make COD4: Modern Warfare 2, you wouldn't call it COD6 would you?

@robinhood2010 - Excellent example, that's exactly the point I'm trying to get across. Some people just choose to be thick.
@SarahBigotMILF - Thanks for once again proving me right, I don't give two sh**s if the "devs said that they dropped the 5 from the title during the production of W@W," I'm pretty sure that means it's NOT COD5.
@ffrulez - "COD6 will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." No... it will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Wow, opened up a can of worms, lol. Didn't think it'd be so difficult a concept to grasp. Anyways... back to the gaming!

Now on the topic of my most anticipated game of 2009 that would be Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. And the game that I think will take people by surprise will be Red Faction: Guerrilla. Well at least I hope it will.

There was between Nintendo and Sega. Then it was Nintendo and Sony. Then Microsoft entered the console war.
Lots of people I have seen on forums predict an Apple console and so, they would be included.
I speak of fanboys when I say all this, just to state the obvious.
To further state the obvious, these fanboy wars are more prevalent and obvious now with the internet than it was before that.

Wet, Terminator, Arkham, Dante's Inferno
Highlander, Wheelman, Bionic Commando
Borderlands, Blood on the sand, Damnation, etc.
Theres my usual with NFS, NBA 2K and WWE. Then of course there are games that haven't even been revealed yet. What about Full ingame xmb functionality along with making it mandatory for all ps3 games to use the screenshot and custom soundtrack features.

I'll be interested to see what Quantum Theory turns out like as we don't really have a no brain 3rd person exclusive for the PS right now.
Also love to see, and it could happen by years end if we're lucky, Yakuza 3 get a NA and Euro release. It looks amazing from the ten minute trailer and would appease those GTA fans who missed the gonzo action of GTA:SA in GTA4 last year. Loads of great minigames and activities as well as the usual action-I played the first one and a bit of 2 (both a bit Jap-mad)but this looks like a huge step up and I don't wish the west to miss out OR learn Japanese.
The other thing is the number of first party studios that we know to be well into projects(i.e that will probably get out this year or early 2010)that aren't yet announced. there's Insomniac with the new R&C game, Incognito working on Hardware and another game(possibly Warhawk2 seeing as the expansions have dried up)and there's the infamous BBC "game" and the one the dutch PS mag is revealing next month. Sony are already putting more of this about too and when you think about the studios without a release yet scheduled it may not be far from reality-expect a few more is all I'm really saying.
Then there's the question of whether Mass Effect2 will, or any other former 360 exclusives, come to PS3. It seems more and more likely that PS3 owners will get both games on one disc now that EA hold the strings and want to make cash AND cosy up to PS3 atm.
Can't, however, see us getting anything FF13 flavoured til late 2010 if I'm honest.SE are sooo in bed with MS that you cantake them at their word that even when the PS3 version is done we won't get to see it 'til they finish 360 development(which , indeed, they aren't starting til they finish ours). It will be a long, long wait and I can't see them letting Vs out before the main title-I can't even see the PSP "Agito" getting out either.
Anyway, right now, even with some games unsure about release dates, or not even revealed at, the PS3 line up is easily the strongest of the consoles(yet even the Wii has some good looking games this year-Fatal Frame4, Tenchu4,Deadly Creatures,Cursed Mountain, S&P2 so also expect some big reveals from MS soon)with the 360, as yet, only looking good for Halo spin offs and Alan Wake(PC anyway).
Big year, empty wallet. Good times.

I do. Have something positive to say, that is.
"Barring the 3rd party stuff, it's looking like it's slim pickings with Msft's 1st party lineup for 09."
Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Mass Effect 2(?), Star Ocean 4.
But, yes, 2009 for me will be a year of multiplatform games.

There are 1 or 2 gems in the 360 lineup and one of them is more of an expansion(Halo3 ODST) but I agree...they're either playing things close to the chest or they really don't have as many titles to compete in 09. Barring the 3rd party stuff, it's looking like it's slim pickings with Msft's 1st party lineup for 09.
