Killzone 2: Forgive The Hype, This Will Be A Defining Experience
Okay, look- we're not the biggest fans of insane hype. We merely report the news, and it's not our fault that half the headlines these days have "Killzone 2" in the title somewhere. However, this may be the only instance where we can't hear enough...and that's because the feedback is so unbelievably positive, we have to start believing that Guerilla's shooter might be the single defining experience of the generation so far.
Here's an example: another recent headline has an Italian journalist known as TTP on NeoGAF talking about the game; he has the final build of Killzone 2, and despite the embargo, he has to heap praises on the game well ahead of time. Here's what he had to say-
"My god. Preview code looks almost like pre-alpha compared to final. Every minor issue I had with the game has been addressed with chirurgical precision. Almost feels like a GG dev was hidden behind the sofa taking notes at every "mmh" of mine during my preview code run. And there are quite a few differences in how things unfold so it feels fresh despite having played this early stages to death.
I can confirm that Guerilla Games have paid particular attention to criticisms made in the gaming press, such as ground textures, up-close textures when taking cover and the artificial intelligence. Everything has been improved for the final build."
Yeah, well, he's not the only one who currently has that final review build in his hands, and we're more than ready to corroborate this guy's testimony. However, we're waiting for the embargo to lift same as everyone else, and we can't go into details. What we can do, however, is gather up all the information over the past few months since the beta released, combine that with our own experiences with the game, and come to the following conclusion: Killzone 2 isn't just a blockbuster. It's not just a great game. For this generation so far, it may be the great game; the one production that becomes an instant measuring stick. In other words, everyone will compare future games to KZ2 for many years to come.
You have to realize, we don't like seeing the same thing over and over again, either. We imagine our readers and most gamers out there are pretty sick and tired of seeing "Killzone 2 this" and "Killzone 2 that." That is easily understood, but if you haven't played it as some of us have, and if you can only read the words...well, you can't fully comprehend what we're saying. That Italian journalist is only one of many, and we'll leave you with one final question: of all the amazing games in the past, can you think of one that blew every last journalist and critic away? And I mean, there's not a single one who's only lukewarm on this; it's basically unanimous. When's the last time you saw this? Even with the likes of GTAIV and MGS4, you could always find a few haters out there....but not this time. And that's exactly the point.

But Valkyria Chronicles came to NZ earlier than most US release dates so maybe we'll be luckier with this one? Maybe half a month less waiting.
I need this game within my 1st month of starting college again. I'll die from hype and boredom if I don't have Killzone 2 to relieve me every Friday afternoon and through the weekends :(

Okay, Ben. Based on your words, it sounds like you like this game better than GTA4 (which you gave a 9.9), AND better than you like MGS4 (which Arnold gave a 10). Would that be accurate? You don't have to break the embargo. Just up and down for "yes", side to side for "no."

You remind me of the type of gamer that always goes against the popular opinion, games that people deem great, you look at it as meh and cite something else as better which in some cases isn't but its all a matter of opinion. no offense.
If you would had played the beta ( i know its not something that all can help ) you would understand why so many are gushing with positive comments about it. Hell, its not even about it being on ps3, if it was on the wii, id still be extremely happy with what i played and trust me, im not a nintendo fan these days

However, I worry that because so many in the games media hung their hopes on GG and Sony failing again with a KZ title that the nit picking will be unprecedented-and it's started already. Anyone else seen the "how KZ2 will review" feature at Gamesradar? Well , for my eternal sins, I saw it and don't believe that any game ever got this hatchet treatment.
Apparently trying, and achieving, the target render far in excess of any current game isn't innovating enough and the tiniest of bugs is going to be magnified beyond belief. It isn't going to get a fair hearing mark my words. Too many people are looking stupid after claiming they would fail to match "that trailer" and are looking desperately for ways to hammer the game through the floor. Normally that would mean Haze level scores but they know that 360 fanboys will claim anything under the tens of Halo3 a complete failure for a game hyped like KZ2 and they'll get that wish fulfilled by a media(often with a 360/M$ leaning in any case if it's US based)eager to prove that they AREN'T WRONG HERE.
Sorry, yet again, for the long post but I hate it when peoples great, hard wrk is diminished in value like this just because people get paid too much for ads by M$ or haven't got the nuts to admit they were wrong. the game will be great just don't go expecting a chorus of approval to match from our esteemed gaming press/web fraternity.

Besides, I think even if the reviews somehow suck, enough people will buy it and enough people will SEE it and not be able to resist.
I just don't think bad reviews will be able to stop this train.

Imagine that.
Ya know, yesterday I had a turkey sandwich that was too "turkey-ey."
I think the best thing about the reviews is going to be seeing how far they have to dig to find negative points. It was like that with Heavenly Sword. The only beef anyone had with the game was that it was too short. Well...if the only bad thing you can say about a game is that you wish there were MORE of it...ummm, I want that one!
Can't wait for gripes like, "Using the flamethrower didn't actually make your Playstation blast heat from the vents. -1 for realism."

also i feel the perspective of the FPS genre is incorrect, teh perspective always seems as if its from the chest, instead of being at the head onto of the shoulders, the amrs seem higher up than they should, they just generally dont seem right to so i cant enjoy them. unless they have a good creative design like Resistance or timesplitters

i love resistance 1 and 2 but good creative design? what makes it so ground breaking compared to most other fps games out there?
As far as not liking killzone 1 so you wont like part 2, thats like the first excuse 360 fanboys go to to dismiss any interests in the game. By that logic, Devil May Cry 3 should be a piece of crap since part 2 was horrible right? most reasonable reviews will tell you that the game tried way too much to on such limited hardware, now things are different, much different. Bottom line is you judge a game on its own merits, not from some previous track record of the series or the company who made it. Keep in mind haze and timesplitters were made by the same company.
I'd tell you to try before you judge it but at this point, you will try your best to find something wrong with it, kinda of a horrible way to play games but whatever floats your boat
Anyways, it just bugs me when a game comes along and it gets a lil bit of hype surrounding it, the boo birds come out as if to say "uh oh, all these gamers who don't know what they are talking about are at it again" especially when those said gamers havent tried it out yet

It might be better than Resistance 2 in terms of realism and gameplay if not longevity.
Killzone 2 is a must for all ps3 owners.

I do feel though that the Sony massive will support Killzone2 big time and that moving the release date was the right choice.

Yeah BUT comparing Final Fantasy XIII to a FF from PS1 and PS2 can actually work because alot of them were GREAT games! xD
:P
*BACK ON TOPIC*
I don't know Dewi. Just that the people from the Beta and journalists everywhere are loving it. And they showed that infamous target CG trailer in 2005 so everyone would've been skeptical enough to keep a close eye on it.

Graphically of course you can't compare. But it's an FPS the genre hasn't changed THAT much in 5 years. That's like saying you shouldn't compare Halo 3 to Halo 2. Or FEAR 2 to FEAR. You can always compare those games as long as you do it on the basis of fun, gameplay, story, etc. Things that are timeless. Not graphics or sheer technical power.

Personally, I can't help but feel like they're hating just to hate, but maybe Ben or Arnold could tell us exactly just what game the guys at GameInformer have played? Because it doesn't sound anything like the same game you guys have been in love with for the last month...
