"No Plans" To Bring Star Ocean: The Last Hope To The PS3
We are well aware that many of our readers are upset with Square-Enix and the perceived shunning of the PlayStation brand this generation. Granted, there is a vocal minority that says, "forgive Square-Enix; they're just trying to expand their business!" Yes, well, if that were the case, why would they remove the PlayStation from their business model and only include the Xbox 360? Take Star Ocean: The Last Hope for instance.
This is a franchise that has never been on a Microsoft console, but we've seen multiple iterations on the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. Therefore, it makes little sense to ignore the PlayStation 3 for the next installment, but that appears to be what Square-Enix is doing. Various rumors sifted about in 2008, claiming that S-E would bring The Last Hope to Sony's machine - heck, it was even "confirmed" at one point - but those rumors have once again been shot down. During a recent IGN interview, the development team said very specifically that "there are currently no plans for a PlayStation 3 version." It doesn't get any more concrete than that, although if you wanted to play the role of the undying optimist, you could focus on the word, "currently." In other words, if there's enough of a fan clamor to get The Last Hope on the PS3, and the PS3's user base increases (which of course it will), Square-Enix may eventually deliver the game. But at this point, it seems very unlikely, and that's unfortunate.
Does anybody understand this approach? The only viable reason we can come up with is that they started work on the game several years ago, when the PS3 had just arrived and was struggling. S-E wanted to expand westward, the 360 was doing well, and so they figured... Well, you know. But even so, it's tough for PlayStation loyalists to view this as anything but a slap in the face.

My only problem with square enix is that they're just a bunch of hypocrites.
SE before this gen:"We plan on supporting all platforms equally" (No. of games on the PS3:0)
SE during this Gen:"FFXIII on 360 wasn't betrayal we are just trying to capture a wider audience" (FFXIII turns multiplatform. SO4, IU, and -TLR as of the moment- still exclusive to 360)
SE on platform favoritism:"We don't favor one platform" (see above and Hiroshi Takai)
Basically Hiroshi Takai already told me not to buy TLR on PS3 since it's main problem was the technical aspects and the 360 being much more easier to develop for and using the Unreal Engine which has it's own record with PS3 games using it being delayed, than what does that say about the PS3 version. Three words "Huge Technical Flop"

Did you honestly forget that they spurned Nintendo long ago? They only look after the bottom line. Nobody should be surprised at this.
Square = Jackals.
And, honestly, I haven't been able to really respect their output since they became Squareenix.

They're still putting some Nintendo DS titles out once in a while but there's no point in not giving the PS3 a Star Ocean game.
The series just doesn't fit the green and white (for me). I just think Star Ocean is black (and blue) all the way!! xD
Yeah, that last one had nothing to do with anything but yeah, meh.

THIS move basically takes a stab at everyone who played the previous titles and enjoyed them. If they get a payoff good for them, but look at how JRPGs are doing on 360. Don't these people want sales anymore?

-Star Ocean..."Not out yet"
-And how can I describe Blue Dragon in one word?..."AVERAGE"
OMG!!! *gasp* How can Sony complete with such mediocrity?
And once again Spartan u told them! WKC does suck because u played it b4 everybody else here, right? Whatever Famitsu says must be right according to you. They're NEVER wrong. Guess we all gotta go buy Haze? Famitsu gave that a high score. LOL!!!!

Fable 2-GOTY from X play and Joystiq
Star Ocean- The rest of the games have been awesome (and if you're using the isn't out yet argument than shut up about KZ2 the first one sucked.)
Blue Dragon-true it was average but it's better than anything PS3 can come up with.
Also I forgot mass effect in my earlier post.

I am, however, stunned that so many Japanese companies are releasing their games only on a system which STILL won't sell in Japan.
Monster Hunter 3 going to the Wii I understand, but this is just baffling from a business standpoint, no matter how much money Microsoft may have offered them.

I mean yea it's a tough economy...and super hard to just go exclusive on one platform - but however if you do your best to master a platform like Hideo Kojima did and the guys at Guerilla probably did (we'll know soon enough) - then you'll get a good amount of success.
Hasn't Star Ocean been pretty much on Playstation???? Like every single one of them I mean???? It'd be insane not to bring this one to the Playstation brand. But oh well...what can you do.
Our Last Hope from Square Enix would be....FF Versus XIII really. Gotta love Tetsuya Nomura.

So, that leaves me with PS3 exclusives, which means, the only thing SE is putting out in the next year or two, that I have a chance of buying, is FFXIII versus.
Great business Strategy Enix.

Sidenote: I HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS IN THE FORUMS. What do u think S-E should do to get the Sony fanbase back?

They, however, still sell in Japan to some extent; so what does SqueEnix do, they put Star Ocean on the 360 where it will probably sell very poorly.
If, however, they put it on the PS3, it would sell a fair sight better in Japan.
It makes very liitle sense from a business perspective.

C'mon guys, just how many snubbings are we willing to take from S-E? I for one will NOT be purchasing FF XIII because I refuse to support a developer that so clearly DOES NOT support this platform. I was such a HUGE fan of Square back in the day, but frankly, I'm tired of all the heartache. I'm SO hoping that White Knight Chronicles is superb, as I need to find a way to move on and not look back.
