Mirror's Edge Time Trial DLC Scheduled For January 29
It's a big month for EA's Mirror's Edge, as PC users will get their first chance to play the innovative action title as it releases this week, and some great DLC is coming to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
According to Joystiq, DICE has confirmed that the new downloadable content is scheduled to release on January 29. For only $9.99, you will receive the Time Trial pack, which consists of nine races over seven entirely new maps. There's a picture of one of those maps here, and as you can see, the visuals aren't realistic but more surreal and clearly designed so the player focuses entirely on running (no fighting). For those who have played the full game all the way through, this will probably come as a relief. The last few hours of the adventure had Faith constantly avoiding incessant gunfire, which in our opinion, got a little tiresome. With this new DLC, you'll be able to enjoy the most entertaining aspect of the game, which is - by far - the running. There won't be any soldiers to worry about; it'll just be you, the map, the clock, and your dexterous abilities. We've seen some of these special Time Trial races in action and trust us when we say, they're going to test your skill in a way the actual game never did. If you love the concept of Mirror's Edge but had a few small issues with the campaign, this DLC pack will remove the excess baggage and focus on the purity of running.
We also figure it's about time to hear talk of a sequel, if DICE and EA are willing to produce one. We'd love to see it, and although we'd like them to fix a few small things for Mirror's Edge 2, we'd most definitely welcome that announcement.

I was a little put off to hear that it was just time trial runs but when I saw a video a couple months, or maybe it was just a month, ago I kind of liked the idea they had for the layout. Blocks floating in mid air. Talk a huge freefall if you don't make the jump. I think it'll be exciting to take a run through and $10.00 isn't a bad price for 7 new levels to run through even if it is just for time trial mode.
I still think the best DLC they could have gave us was a movie playback mode where they literally played the game back for you in movie form, but playing it back the same exact way you ran through the game. It would be so cool to sit back and watch yourself play through the game in movie form, especially with some of the leaps of faith you must make a certain points. I wouldn't want the whole thing to be in traditional third person perspective but I would like to see faith's whole body when she's jumping. I just don't want the movie playback to be in first-person perspective if you know what I mean. I just think this would have been the perfect game to bring this element in to.
