Guerilla Confirms: No Co-op For KZ2
It's really the only visible drawback in Killzone 2, and despite any erroneous reports you may have heard, Guerilla has no plans to implement a co-op campaign.
Although most realize that this feature won't be included in the game, multiple sources have hinted at the possibility of an upcoming patch that would deliver co-op play for the hotly anticipated shooter. But thanks to a PSU interview with game director Mathijs de Jonge, the rumors have been dispelled and we have the final word: no, it's just not coming. Said de Jonge-
"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2. Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly no loading screens , and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op its still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."
Yeah, one has to realize that KZ2 isn't exactly like other games, and we get the feeling that Guerilla doesn't want to do anything that might cause the overall quality of Killzone 2 to drop. The big question is, would you rather have a somewhat inferior co-op mode, or would you rather it not exist in the first place? The bottom line is that the single-player mode will be plenty epic, and the online multiplayer should satisfy even the most hardcore FPS fan. You needn't worry about that. Just don't expect co-op, 'cuz KZ2 ain't gonna have it. You can't get everything, you know.

Can't wait to see people say that KZ2 has better graphics than Gears 2. People blind to the fact more resources can be spent on the look of the campaign for single player.

Does anybody else see this trend of more single-player experiences as a problem? We seem to be turning more and more reclusive as time goes on. Video games are a fantastic social activity, but wouldn't we all prefer to socialize with our friends rather than whoever else is online that we may or may not ever see again?

It's one thing to expect a game like MGS4, or GTA, or any game by a dev with a good track record, but to have hopes for a dev that has only proven to underdeliver...

Actually, going strictly according to my hardline stance against shooters and racers without split-screen, I would have to pass on this game. Thank gawd my gf pre-ordered it for me, so (technically) I'm not buying it. I guess KZ2 has found a loophole.
Personally, I think this omission is a slap in the face to any gamer with real-life friends.
Killzone 2 is still going to be a fantastic game, but pardon me as I hop off the bandwagon.

Sure some dont have a ps3 but i would think this is a good enough reason to get one. id much rather play Gears 2 on my own xbox 360 without having to share a screen with my friends, but thats just me.
Co op would have been nice for this game, but its not the end of the world

Fact is, most CAN'T afford one, so the next best thing is them to play with a friend on their system. And what about people who still can't receieve broadband because of their location (Like me, i require a 15 minute drive to my aunt's house when playing online)?
And lets say one day your connection messes up and playing online is basically impossible, but you still have a craving to play with a friend on Army of Two?
Hell why do you think Rock Band, Guitar Hero and the Wii in general are all successful? Because its catered to group activites!

The offline cooperative isn't much a thing, when we have a video game party, you can be sure that we are not playing a FPS, even if its killzone.
The online cooperative mode, is one that I really hate. When you log on, you find a game and always there is one or two people that have already go trough the stage and they just run leaving you behind. Happened to me on RE:Outbreak, R2, Gears 1, W@W. So in not logging on again to play cooperative.

Its like 95% of the people on this site don't like offline co-op. Sure split-screen is small, but alot of people have big 40 inch+ screens this generation. I personally have a 60 in, and I love playing Army of 2.
There is definantly a shortage of games that you can play with a local friend. One thing that makes gaming so fun is the bond that comes from the teamwork. Can you say that about any old reject you meet online.
Hell most of you can agree that in atleast Every other lobby or team there is atleast one punk that screws up the team or rotation. I understand some of you don't have friends, but com'on people. Those of you who say you "hate" offline co-op really need help.

I'll be very happy that they focus on a seamless single player campaign and a robust on-line game.
