Killzone 2 Playable Demo Assaults PSN On February 26

If you've already pre-ordered Killzone 2 at GameStop, you should have your redeem code, which will allow you access to a playable demo some time after February 2. But if you'd rather wait for the demo to hit the PSN, well...you can do that, too.

There has been some confusion regarding the demo's release on the Store, but now, it has been clarified: according to the MTV Multiplayer blog, Sony says the demo will arrive on the PSN on February 26, one day before the final product ships to retailers in North America. Of course, that just means you'll have to wait for several weeks after those who pre-ordered got a chance to play it... Said Sony's Scott Steinberg:

"Offering a playable demo to motivate pre-orders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2. We take this approach when we are convinced that the experience will cement a consumer's interest in purchasing. Retailers will then merchandise those demos within their stores and online to maximize their visibility."

Makes sense to us. Really, it all just comes down to advertising and marketing, even though it's a concept that Sony fails to grasp far too often. What they need to do is make Killzone 2 visible to the mainstream masses; the hardcore gamer knows all about it as they've been hearing about little else for the past few months. So don't count on the demo for "visibility;" just pump out the ads! We'll be waiting...they better start soon.

I fail to see the point here. Surely a demo should be for people who havent preordered the game to gain interest in it and possibly increase sales?

Thats what i was thinking. Give the demo to everyone that way more people can test the game and will want to pre-order it. Then give the pre-order guys something thats actually usable and worth some cash like some free dlc or a keychain or something.

I got mine preorder, can't wait for the demo. If you are going to buy the game you might as well preorder it, especially if they are throwing in perks like this.

I wish they started advertise the game now. I would love to be watching tv and see a commerical for the game, saying only available on the PS3.

I agree Vicious54, I would also like to see a teaser trailer, similar to the one for Gears of War 2, for Killzone 2. Not only that, Sony NEEDS to get on the advertising bandwagon! Too many great PS3 exclusives miss the public's eye from lack of stunning ads... well, lack of ads period.

I have my copy of KZ2 pre-ordered at GameStop. They gave me a code for the demo... AND I CAN'T WAIT!!! Only three more weeks (after waiting patiently for almost four years) until I get to test run this possible masterpiece of a game....

@Killzone100
Depends on where you live in euro. the mainland gets it 2 days before US, so the 25th while the UK gets it the same day as US, the 27th.
Also already preordered it myself =) wish they would make a CE for it...also I'm pretty sure I heard that Euro was getting their K2 demos for free on psn way early, like the time US gets the preorder demo

Well its good news that the demo is coming out period isn't it. Its not like a demo comes out for everygame. People who are on the fence with this title (I have no clue why) can still demo it the day before it comes out and decide for themselves.

I can see it now, an xbot walks into his friend's room and the kid's playing the KZ2 demo and Xkid is like "That's just the demo?" and Sony kid is like "yeah my preorder is comin in pretty soon." and Xkid is like "All I got's a crummy 360"

I just watched the Pulse video on PSN and the 2 seconds of KZ2 they show looked amazing. This game is going to be epic!

Now Sony, take some clips from the game and add some music, then put it on tv. That is called, can we say it ad-ver-tis-ing.
