More Left 4 Dead PS3 Evidence

This ought to make for an interesting discussion.

This could be little more than a decent piece of PhotoShop forgery, but it already has people talking: could last year's fantastic survival/horror shooter be coming to the PlayStation 3? Developed by Valve and distributed by EA, we wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Microsoft had purchased timed exclusivity as they did with Bioshock. Furthermore, even though Valve may heavily dislike Sony's machine, EA's only bias is towards money, which means they probably aren't too keen on the idea of passing up the PS3's user base. This evidence comes from a N4G forumite by the name of "Graphics Whore," and you can find the other pictures here. Obviously, it shows L4D in a PS3 box, but we figure if such a thing existed, wouldn't we have heard about the impending release already...? But even so, the claim is that you can pre-order the PS3 version from Best Buy (see the pre-order card in one of those pics), and so, everyone is beginning to wonder. Third-party exclusivity is mostly a thing of the past these days, and unless a certain company decides to buy the rights to timed exclusivity, most titles end up on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

And remember, it wasn't long ago when someone spotted Left 4 Dead PS3 on a UK retailer's site, although it was promptly removed. We'll keep an eye on things to see if an official announcement is forthcoming. For now, this is only a rumor so don't go around stating it as fact until we see something from either Valve or EA.

I've seen a friend play this game, and I have to say Im not crazy about it. Especially when you factor in who made it.

Not bad. Despite Gabe "the fatman" Newhall's reprehensible attitude toward the ps3, and Valve's delegation of an inadequate effort to port, I really enjoyed the Orange Box, and Portal was awesomely innovative and immersive. I'd even go as far to say it was one of the best bang-for-buck packages of this generation.

Valve did say that the only reason there's no PS3 version is that nobody approached them and asked to make it, and that if the game performs well that might change quickly. Obviously it did perform well so it wouldn't be surprising if EA decided that a port might be worthwhile, but if that's supposed to be an actual game in the case then that would suggest they've already been working on it for a while.

L4D's lots of fun, more than I expected it would be, so more people playing it would definitely be a good thing.

That was different, the Orange Box was huge: The acclaimed Half-Life 2, its two additional Episodes, the long-awaited Team Fortress 2 and the innovative Portal, all in one box. That it would sell well and justify the port was a given.

L4D was much more of an unknown quantity and porting it was a risk that a publisher wouldn't take without some guarantee of healthy sales.

lol. FAKE. ps3 doesn't use NTSC and PAL region system. all ps3 games are region free.

That's a good point, none of my PS3 games have a PAL logo in the corner like that, but the 360 L4D case does. Could it just be a mockup case or something like that, if the release is still some way off?

If you really want to play it, I say don't wait. Considering the LAST Valve game that came to the PS3 - The Orange Box - I wouldn't hold my breath for a PS3 version that's identical to the 360 version. Sadly, I think we might get another poor port.

I can never get the login to work from the PS3 (do I need to allow Cookies or something?). I surf at home alomst exclusivley with the PS3 browser, though, so I would if it worked.

I read the site at least once a day from the PS3, but I usually only post from work (which is why my posts come in bunches).

p.s. Sony needs to improve the browser in the next firmware update, especially the stability.

I'm a huge fan of anything zombie, so I do hope this comes to PS3. This game and dead rising are really the only 2 reasons I've been thinking about getting a xbox. If the rumours are true thought (dead rising 2 and L4D are coming to PS3), then I geuss I can save my money.

As seems to be the very unfortunate case with xbox favorites, I hear the single player mode is weak and the game only shines with friends or in online mode. Dunno bout you but I plunk the bucks on the countertop for that single player campaign for every game I buy. I'd pick it up at a reduced price though.

The off-line single player mode is just the 4 multiplayer 'Chapters' played with bots. More of a training mode than a single player game.

The ps3 version of the orange box was in fact pathetic in some aspects but valve can make excellent software. Half Life is amazing. On the PC.

Sorry guys, but I think this one is a fake.

The hand on the box is a right hand. When we got the early (pre order) art for that game at gamestop it had a right hand on it, but when the game was released it was a left hand. I think he got his hands on some cover art that was thrown away by a retailer or something and then made it look like a ps3 game.

Dont you think they would have used the same art as the 360 version?

Not necessarily. The Bioshock art is slightly different, I believe. They might have intentionally chosen to make it the other hand.

Another example: SoulCalibur covers featuring different Guest Stars.

I do think this is a mock-up, though.

I played the game on my friend's 360 and it was actually pretty fun. Sadly to say, there are only 4 levels in the game so the only way I would pick this one up is if it was $30 or cheaper. I couldn't justify buying a game that is so short with no real saves.

you guys are amazing. This is starting to sound like Bioshock (and other games) all over again...

While its exclusive everybody's talking about how it's all overrated and then after it comes out those same people cant stop gushing about it and advertise the fact that it's one of the year's best games even though it came out the previous year for the 360.

L4D is an awesome game, bar none. It was one of my personal top 5 contenders for GoTY. It was fresh, exciting, tense, and has loads of replayability. Unlike most other zombie/horror games, gameplay and controls are not the scariest part of the game.

Graphics, while not strictly the greatest, are well thought out, planned, and enacted. sound is rich, subtle, and well integrated. being in different parts of town or in different areas actually gives you zombies dressed in the appropriate fashion.

The Director is one of the more unique innovations of 08, and really takes you to the edge and keeps you there.

But I'm not a columnist here, so I'll just say this: L4D is one of the few games that have actually made me watch the commentary. It is also probably the only game (so far) that I would pay real money for a rerelease if it had the appropriate additions/features.

Pass. From vids i've, Do Not Want. Let them keep it. Another reason not to buy is that I don't approve of developers taking cash to make timed exclusives for them in the process not giving ps3 equal treatment. Also the games developers hate ps3 so it's not in my interest that they see a penny of my cash.

We should accept this game in our PS3 domain even though i think its going to sell.
I wont buy this one no matter what. what i hate about this game is that you are always being horded and always blasting zombies running at you for the most part of teh game.Simply does not inspire me, maybe if they can do a sequel that better manages the concept and have a solid story to tell with some umbelievabe stuff,graet characters & plot twists, thats what makes a game memorable. Gears of war lacked that so it means soon i will forget and only remember the gameplay and chuncky men.

PLEASE O PLEASE O PLEASE O PLEASE O PLEASE don't tell me I'm like the only one who hates the graphics of this game. I swear to god - it looks as if it could be done on PS2!!! Uncharted...a game that came out a year before Left 4 Dead LOOKS BETTER THAN IT!!! Am I insane here??? Are my eyes bad, or is it true???? And think about it, if the graphic are already bad...oh god...the ps3 port(if there is one that is) *swallows deeply*

HOWEVER - the gameplay is pretty enjoyable. I mean although there are like 4 parts or whatever and not much campaign - it's fun w/ your friends and stuff so I guess that overweighs the whole graphics issue.

Left 4 dead is a very fun game. when its ported to PS3, buy it and play ONLINE.

its much much fun in Online Vs mode (8 vs 8).

btw OOT but on kotaku i read that kojima also like L4D >_<

I have this for the 360, and I'd rebuy it for the PS3 so I can play it online.

Currently, I'm playing co-op on one TV because I won't give M$ft more of my money to play online anymore.

Ben I got this it is ok as a single player. If you don't play online on the 360 then your missing out more than the single player.

Single play is roughly 2 hours and the game is completed. There are 4 area's to go through though, each set is similar to the other ones. I have so far completed 2 out of the 4 area's but I took a break from it as I didn't want it completing too early too soon.

Online is fun as both teams get to play as zombies and the survivors, a lot of good fun is to be had from this online. Could be worth a buy if your a zombie genre fan.

Let's hope Dead Rising 2 comes to the PS3 as I loved the first one on the 360.
