Rockstar: "No Truth" To Reports Of New GTA Coming This Year
Well, if you want to be a glass-half-full kinda guy, you can always say, "meh, there are too many awesome games this year, anyway."
A few days ago, it was revealed that in the Loose Talk section of the latest Game Informer, Rockstar was preparing to release a new next-gen Grand Theft Auto later this year. We also heard they were considering another historical type adventure (like Vice City and San Andreas), which immediately prompted discussion regarding possible settings for GTAV. There was a rumor going around supporting Tokyo as a possibility, but it appears that all of this is premature, as Rockstar has stepped up to clarify things. According to Kotaku, publisher Take-Two Interactive has stated there is "no truth" to the reports that a "wholly new retail game" will arrive in time for the 2009 holiday season. Speculation concerning possible time periods and locales should also be taken with a grain of salt. Considering that Grand Theft Auto IV released in April of last year, we figured a late 2009 release for the next installment was inaccurate. Then again, a 2010 launch seems most plausible, so we'll have to keep an eye out for any future developments.
If the new GTA does come out in 2010, that may join Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III, which would be plenty appealing. But it's tough to say at this point, so we won't toss out any more scenarios for the time being.

The reason most people think it was a letdown was a combination of Hype and Comparison. Th over-the-top glory that was GTA San Andreas was the work of an engine used for 5 years and got alot better with each year of tweaking iteration of the franchise.
I can bet money that the last GTA to come out this Generation will destroy any other sandbox game out there in the RPG or Action Genere.
For what that game has done i say it has fully justified all its GoTY awards and 10's, there is no other game out there like it(except for Saints Row 2, but that gameis more on the Goofy fun side which was awsome and not the serious like GTA4 was, also not as immersive to me)

look at the track record for gta releases, always at least 6 months later than expected
also they still need to do the second dlc for xbox
what i wounder the 2009 release isn't a full retail game, but could it be the dlc for xbox on a disc for ps3 so it gets around the contract with microsoft
swear i read somewhere that they were going to do something for ps3 gta
before anyone says how would being on a disc work, rock band or guitar hero dlc for ps2 was released on disc for the game, just install off cd onto hard drive for ps3

The DLC might even come to PSN at some point after the exclusivity period wanes.
As for how it will work, add-on discs have been around for years; so I think everyone already knows how they work.
Take 2 might even release a GOTY addition with all the extra content on it just like Oblivion.
If I had to bet, the DLC for Fallout 3 will also come to the PS3 in a similar fashion too.
