How Did You Decide Upon Your Next-Gen Console Purchase?
Too often, analysts and journalists forget that with the sheer amount of information available these days, it can be difficult for a consumer to make a decision. I can distinctly recall working down at EB during the launch of the PS2 (yes, I'm that old; just shut up), and it became painfully clear that most consumers, even some who considered themselves gamers, were dazed and confused. "Just too many conflicting reports," or something to that affect, is a commonly heard comment. So, how did you decide upon your console purchase?
Bear in mind I'm only talking about this new generation, so if you've purchased a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii, I want to know why. How did you arrive at the conclusion? None of these, even the relatively inexpensive Wii, is cheap enough to be considered an "impulse buy," so obviously, one would assume a great deal of thought went into your purchase decision. I am well aware of the fanboys who plunked down their money without doing any research whatsoever, but if they bothered with responsible research, they wouldn't be embarrassingly biased, now would they? Anywho, I suppose I'll start; I own a PS3 and a 360, and here's why-
The Xbox 360 Purchase
I had an Xbox, and although it turned out to be a far less reliable machine than my PS2 (and I had far fewer games for it), I figured there would be a few gems on the 360 that I couldn't afford to pass up. I had the Xbox for the likes of Halo and Ninja Gaiden, early awesome stuff like Deathrow, and the fact that multiplatform titles were almost always best played on this console. I wasn't convinced the latter would happen in the new generation, given the rumors of the PS3's impending power, but I knew there would be a few 360 exclusives I absolutely had to play. I worried about the reliability, and although it's clear that the numbers have proven it to be the least reliable system in history, mine is still fine. The one I got in mid-2006 still works great; even better than the original Xbox (which constantly gave me DRE errors).
I don't go online much so Live was never a big draw for me, but the revamped S Controller - after the debacle of the original Xbox controller - made me satisfied with the gamepad I got with the 360. I didn't have a HDTV then so that didn't really factor in, and while the game selection was thin, it's always thin during the first year of a console's existence. So, I made the purchase, and although I'm playing on the machine a little less than I expected, the vindication is just about here. The two Gears games alone have already come close, but I do want more.
The PlayStation 3 Purchase
I got this on launch day as I did the PS2, but to be 100% honest, it was only for work-related purposes. I had just started full-time here at PSXE and I needed the thing to help the site. Really, if I didn't need it for that, I most certainly wouldn't have bought it for quite a while. $600 was crazy pricey, I didn't have a HDTV yet to enjoy the Blu-Ray option, and because I remembered the horrid reliability issues the PS2 faced during launch, I was nigh-on convinced the same thing would happen to the PS3. And besides Resistance: Fall of Man, there really weren't any games at launch that interested me. So I guess we have to bypass the actual purchase decision (because it wasn't really a "decision") and look at whether or not I'm happy with the system at this point in time. Well, the short answer is "yes."
Being a huge RPG fan during the PS1 and PS2 days, I figured I'd at least get the same from the PS3, but it hasn't turned out that way. I've actually gone to the 360 for my RPG fixes so far (Lost Odyssey was great, IMO). But the PS3 surprised me in more positive ways: first, the reliability has been perfect (I still have the original 60GB machine I got on launch day), Blu-Ray on my new HDTV is brilliant, due to the free Network I'm online more often, and I've watched in fascination as the software roles have apparently shifted this generation. Once we get Killzone 2, and now that Resistance 2 is already out, it's hard to say the PS3 isn't the king of FPSs this generation, whereas the Xbox most certainly was last generation. That's just one "for instance," but I remain happy with the exclusives we've already had (Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, etc.), and the upcoming exclusive list is bad-ass. I'm already salivating for GoWIII, KZ2, GT5, Uncharted 2, and FF Versus XIII.
I still think the Sony controller is the best one ever made, and having backwards compatibility on the console, which I really loved at first, is still a bonus. I just got a sleek silver PS2 so I don't really use it as much, but b/c on the PS3 is still worth mentioning. That, and I see PS3 versions of multiplat games becoming superior on the PS3 as developers start their development plans on Sony's machine. At the very least, the games will be mostly identical across both platforms whereas last generation, the PS2 version rarely equaled the Xbox version. So yeah, I really do love everything the PS3 has offered and will offer in the future.
As for the Wii, I won't ever consider purchasing a gadget that isn't really a game console. Now, what about you? How'd you end up with the system(s) you have this generation?

1.God of War 3, I missed GoW 1 when it launched but got it when it hit the Greatest Hits for $20 and LOVED it and immedeatly went to purchase GoW2, now I patiently await 3 :)
2.My RPG's which at this point im highly dissapointed in Sony in not having enough of, but hopefully they will start strong as seeing Fallout 3 was great(Besides the many bug that annoyed me, like when I went to get the G.E.C.K and the supermutant helping me get past the radiation got stuck and I had to go in....ouch)
3.Kingdom Hearts 3, I dont care whatever you say KH had a fantastic story line and great plot twist, hell i even still quote a saying from KH1 "One who knows nothing, can understand....nothing" :0 D33P lol
Honorable mentions are
*Rumor of FF7 Remake and trailer
*Rumor of Legends of Dragoon 2 (I played the mess out of that game, I have a modded PSP with it on there)
*A New Twisted Metal (Do i need to say mome lol)
*And PS3 backwards Compatability (Yep got me an Original 60gig )

I purchased the PS3 because I wanted a Blu-ray Player and Home theater Mag gave it high marks as a Player. After having it for a while, I have become a convert, I love the reliability, and I replaced my HTPC with it. I also because if reliability issues I only buy exclusives for my 360 now, if they are multiplat I only get them for the PS3.

I had initially berated the PS3 for its cost and lack of games, but I knew it would be the only way for me to play GoW3. I was also intrigued by Heavenly Sword and MGS4. Once I realized that its cost was no different than what I'd pay to get the same features ADDED to my 360 (cost of the console itself excluded), I relented and bought my PS3. Once I fired it up and heard . . . nothing, I was sold. I delved into Blu-ray (now blessedly silent HD playback) and began to love my new console. It wasn't long before the 360 went on the chopping block. I do miss Mass Effect and would like to try Fable, but there is nothing else on the 360 that appeals to me and I couldn't be happier. Now that Blu-ray is the HD standard, my choice has been proven to be even better. I also have Heavy Rain, GoW3 and Uncharted 2 to look forward to in the next year (give or take) which won't be appearing on the 360, and only Mass Effect 2 to draw me towards the competition.

wii was out of the question because it offered nothing to me
360 pros- great online, cheap, all my mates have one
cons - not much to push gaming wise, faulty hardware, expensive in the long run
ps3 pros - blu ray, great games from ps2 (mgs, gran torismo exc), free online, all in one hardware, i wanted a next gen just for gta, i could have gone with 360 for the dlc but i have a feeling sony will get something, plus all gtas being on playstation before i thought it would be the superior version
cons - didn't no many people with one, didn't have the best line up of games when i got it, bad ports, very expensive
but i'm glad i took the risk to get it even though none of my close friends had one, because one by one they are gettin a ps3
also made me become friends with people i hadn't spoken to in ages
PS3 for the win

In the UK the ps3 came out at the end of march and my birthday is first week in april so i preorded one and used my birthday money to get one, i did lots of research and i figured i had my ps2 for about 6 or 7 years and i thought the ps3 would of have a similar run, therefore i factored in 40 pounds a year for xbox live along with the 60 pound wireless adapter and thought it would be much cheaper in the long run to have the ps3, along with blu ray.
Also i have never got on with the xbox controller, there is a reason why sony has never changed the design of the ps controller, just fits perfectly, granted the sixaxis felt too lite, but as soon as the DS3 came out, the system was perfect for me.
so much so that my mates who had originally bought 360's, all but one have swapped for the ps3, mainly because between the 5 of them, they have had 13 xbox's between them, only one of them are still on their original one, and he's the one who use's it least.
Overall couldnt be more happy with the choice i made, i respect the 360 a hell of alot as it has some great games but for me the ps1 and ps2 did such a good job i had no reasons to doubt that the ps3 would let me down, and it hasn't yet.

I looked at how much I enjoyed my PS1, then how well the PS2 did (and how many games it now has), and felt the PS3 was a nobrainer.
I figured the PS3 would follow the same path as the PS2 did, and that's something I'd want to be a part of.
Plus I had to have Uncharted and MLB: The Show, two of my favorite games ever.
I've thought about getting an XBOX 360 now also, so I could play Gears, Mass Effect, and Fable, but the unreliability scares me away, and so for now I'm sticking with my PS3. I'm looking forward to the 2009 lineup. (Can't WAIT for Resident Evil 5!!!) :)

I was soo into Halo that I almost bent. I liked the 360 but at the time my friends got lost in the mail after his 3rd time! It was hard going against the flow at the time but I did the nit-picking: Wi-fi, Blu Ray, Free Online. The online was what got me. I did the calculations and I knew I'd of been purchasing 2 PS3's in the form of LIVE if I went 360.
So I got a $600 original 60gb. I played soo much Resistance I don't think I had gripes about lack of software. When I got Cod4 I became a Software Camel!
Now that my TV is worth $1000 and my Ps3 is valued at $400 I am still happy. Blu Ray is KILLER and Im glad I can say I thought for myself when it counted.

The first one I got was the wii for Brawl, Twighlight princess, and Super mario galaxy. Plus the new kind of gameplay. Also just because it doesn't have HD graphics doesn't mean it's not a gaming console.
The second one I got was the 360 for Halo, it's online play, and none of my friends had a PS3. As for RROD I've had my 360 for over a year now and luckily haven't had any problems but just in case I got an extended warranty at best buy.
Then I got a PS3 for MGS4 and Ratchet and Clank Future.

I also have a Wii, the reason I bought it was because the idea of motion sensor controllers intrigued me, it's a whole new way of playing games. I've had a lot of fun with it, usually with a group of people though, I tend to play my PS3 by myself and my Wii with my friends.
I've thought about buying a 360 because there are a few games that I would love to play (some RPGs, Halo 3, Fable II, etc.), but I would never buy a product with such a high failure rate. And the fact that online gaming isn't free is a big problem for me, I payed for the machine, and the game, the rest should be free. (that's something that urks me with mmorpg's too, how much does blizzard make every month??) So it's a no for me for that console...

...so I guess u won't play a MMO that requires a subscription fee, right?
P.S. Oh, Blizzard makes MILLIONS. But they put that money to good use b/c WoW continues to improve. And Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 is gonna be EPIC!

That's something I noticed with the whole "netflix on 360" thing too, you have to pay double in order to get the service. First you need a gold membership to Live and then a membership to netflix, where on PS3 you have all the movies you can choose from already there and just pay a one time rent/buy fee.
I don't wanna pay for internet services, I can get everything on my PC for free (except for MMO's), why should I pay on my gaming console?

1. My loyalty to the brand PS
2. Most of the games I want are either migrated to the PS3 (ratchet for ex.) or completely new games but from developers that I am loyal to (uncharted for ex.)
3. I got an HDTV, so convenience was behind my back.
4. I wanted to move on Blu-Ray, but I will only get Blu-Rays for the movies that I wil watch at least 10 times (Dark Knight for example)
The rest below are little cool things that I've learned ever since I got a PS3 =)
A lot of my friends in school mostly have 360 but they come to me to ask should they buy it or not, and I am completely unbiased. Then (is this a compliment from them, I don't know but it was a little flattering lol)they say that they admit that PS3 is a little better than 360 here and there.
Laslty, when someone from school says "Victor, what system did you get?". Before I finish saying "PS3" (I say PS before I get interrupted) they make a scene screaming "OMG PS Fanboy! 360s better it's got more games."
Me, all calm lol, says "I got my PS3 because I am loyal to PS and the games I want are on PS3." Then surprisingly, he shuts up (he ain't a friend of mine, jus someone I know) and half-expectedly, comes the "ohhhhh" from the crowd. I wasn't even dissing him (was that consiered a diss?)!
So, I hope that next-gen (2014-2015 in my opinion, I got my PS3 Oct. 2008, want to enjoy it to the fullest) is a mor lighter gen, in terms of arguments.
P.S. Ever since I got a PS3, I've known lots more people that have one too. 40% of my school has it, that's kind of cool.

To Be honest I decided on purchasing my PS3 for several reasons.
1. I had purchased a 32" Toshiba HDTV LCD the summer of 2006 and wanted a system that would output native 1080P the PS3 was only system at the time that was able to do that with out software such as the 360 was only able to go to 1080I and 720p.
2. I had just finished FF XII this same summer and fell in love with RPG'S all over again and seeing that Sony was the RPG magnet with the PS2 and hearing the FF XIII at this time was only coming to the PS3
3.I liked the fact that Sony was pushing the PS3 to become a all around entertainment center in one unit. A media center that allows me to browse internet from my own couch, listen to music and browse my many photos of my family all while taking a break from gaming. I realize that being in my 40's I look for value as well as functionality. otherwards more bang for the buck.
4.The most important reason for my purchase was I really wanted a system the gave me the total HD exspierance natively. My research on Blue-Ray really intreged me and after seeing a demo at the store I was sold on the Graphics alone.
I have several other reasons for this purchae, but I wont bore you all with them. I wanted the PS3 day one but was unlucky and wasnt able to find one until Jan 2007. I also hated the fact I had to dish out 700 clams for the system,HDMI cable, and 1 game RFOM, but that i had tons of PS2 games the lack of good day one software really didnt factor into my decission at all because of the 60 Gigs BC.
The Xbox 360:
I purchased this in September of 08 for these reasons.
1. The price of 199.00 for the arcade plus 29.99 for the refurnished hard drive was to good to refuse.
2. I am not a big fan of Halo but I do love Gears of War and Fable and seeing as I couldnt get them for the PS3 I had to get the xbox 360 to lay them.
3. I have netflix I also liked the fact that you could watch movies streamed for free in HD. Dont get me wrong I like Sony's movies, just dont like waiting an hour or 2 to download and the price of 6.00 bucks per movie is way to high.
4. Even though I personally dont like all the shovel ware on the arcade games side there are a few great games I do enjoy that are not on PSN and seeing that I have a 2 teenagers with a lot of friends that also have a 360 it really is cheaper for them to chat online through xbox live then allowing them to use thier cell phones.
As for the WII, I am so sorry to state this , but if I want to watch or play cartoons ill watch the cartoon network on cable. I will admit as an older gamer I loved play Matio in my day but to be honest 20 plus years of mario is getting old there is only so many differant ways you can re invent a game and Nintendo has just run out of ideas that attract me to the game. I also prefer to play tennis at the court not in my living room. I will admitt that the wii remote is a great idea and for some families this would fit with kids between the ages of 5-12 which allows the whole family to play together. I get that and I even can see why the wii is selling so well mainly because there are far more younger families then hard core gamers in this world.
I see that this post is getting way to long so I will close with this final statement. My choices of consoles where made because of the games even though my favorite console is the PS3 for the reasons i mentioned I still respect the reasons others have chosen thier's and can appreciate what Ben is really trying to do here allow us all to respect each others opinions with out the flame wars.

If I were to ever get the Wii it would be to play my old cube games on, since it started smoking about a month ago, and wont turn on. I'd play a couple of the Wii games like SSBB and Mario Kart, but it's main purpose would be as a cube replacement.

I bought 2 360 Arcades on April last year with a 10% discount on each, after pulling out £400 from my bank account, thanks to EMA that gave me £750 straight away for being late with their weekly payments [ty].
The reason was, because at the time, the premium 360 was around £259.99, whilst the PS3 was £299.99, and see, i didn't want to spend alot. My friend would pay me back for the 360 i would be buying him along with mine, and i figured £180 [discount] Arcade would be the best deal. We both wanted to play Halo 3 together with 2 other friends anyway. I also bought Lost Odyssey shortly after.
And fun Halo was! For about 2-3 months. £40 for a redeem card to pay for Live [after the free month voucher], ranking up high on Lone Wolf, and then Social / team matches got the better of me. I was already annoyed with the game. And then suddenly i couldn't play team matches anymore, or double EXP weekend matches, or even MLG, because of the demand of a Heroic Map Pack [grrr]. See, my measily memory card couldn't handle the pack [which was for free], but i still felt cheated [not to mention you can't even share a f**king picture without a hardrive]. Then the new demand for people to buy Legendary Map Packs to play most ranked matches really annoyed me. I was done with that game. Lost Odyssey was great though. A bit draggy during the 2nd disc but still good stuff.
Luckily around this time of Halo hatred, i was already playing COD4, a truly fun game. That lasted me a long way untill december, when i finally stopped playing the console.
Crackdown is shit.
I never got into Gears. Repetetive shotty blasting by rediculously chunky people, with stupidly slow sensetivity, in maps the size of my bathroom. Gears 2 is better but the online is HORRID.
Anyways, through my time of owning a 360, it became more apparent how everyday i grew to hate the thing. I hated how Microsoft were always in your face with advertisements & propoganda, and i resented 360 fanboys who were always coming up with dumb things they always said about the PS3.
-----------------------------------------
Then unexpectedly, i got a PS3 for christmas. My days of torment were over, and i already found it fun.
I then came to realise that anything anyone ever told me that was negative about the PS3, was all lies & misinformation. And PSN is actually great! Unexpectedly, i prefer it over XBL! [Definately over the "New Experience"; they should of just kept the dashboard]. I love Life with Playstation aswell. PS HOME is cool but i never use it tbh.
Resistance 2 was the first game i got to play [after my twatty brother hogged the PS3 for Heavenly Sword]. Prince of Persia had cheesy voice overs and you can't die?! Wtf?! Also there was a glitch right at the start of the game...i was put off of it.
Then i stole MGS4 from my friend and it's just too awesome. Best finale ever.
Sold Resistance: FOM, Prince of Persia & Heavenly Sword for LBP. I love it. So much tutorials though :/ I guess thats the only way. I hate the gardens aswell.
--------------------------------------
And here i am. Just sold my 360, and got those 3 new games. Theres many more games i must buy. I love my PS3.
Also, some a**hole put a dent on it. It's a little tiny dent, but it makes me mad enough to think of hacking someone with an axe.
Long rant. But i had to mention the outcome for each console aswell.

The last gen I didn't own all the systems -- Yes, I even owned a 3DO and Jaguar -- was back in the Colecovision/Intellivision days. Except for the Jaguar, I've never owned an Atari machine. I guess I was a graphics whore even back then.
I wish I still ahd all those old systems. I don't have any systems beyond the PSX/Saturn/N64 era because I sold them when I lost interest in games during the SNES era.
Maybe after this year's tax return, I'll pick up the old consoles (Colecovision/Intellivision/Vectrex/Genesis/SNES) and a handful of games (fortunately the consoles and games are fairly cheap these days) for them at 4Jays and Digital Press (I live a few towns away from DP).

The real reason I got the PSP was to blackmail myself into getting the PS3 as the connectivity between them interested me.
360: I got this cause I started with an Xbox instead of PlayStation. The PlayStation never got to me. I had a rather big collection of Xbox games to continue that trend on the 360 seemed more then normal. But I waited a while as the failure rate of the console didn't push me towards getting it early. (Got it may 2006)
The I didn't purchase many games on it and my time online was little. Then about 6-8 months after purchase it broke down. I send it for repairs and got it back. It has been working ever since. But it's had role weakened. The games I wanted to get weren't out (yet) and I had another addiction to feed.
PS3: I waited a half year before getting this (Euroe release date). Why, I felt that the PS3 deserved to be used on a HDTV and I didn't own one yet. But in October 2007 Sony announced that they would stop with the production of the initial 60GB version. I didn't hesitate and purchased one right away. I waited for a sweat deal (Motorstorm, Resistance and 2 controllers for €499). In the beginning I didn't know what to expect of the PS3 even though I followed it even closer since it's Euro release. But as time passed I saw the potential in the PS3. It over took the 360 as Media Player but as for games it was still lacking. In september 2008 is where my PlayStation revolution really started.
Wii: It would have been an impulse buy but in the end I didn't do it. I didn't have the room to really enjoy it and I started looking at it from a different angle and noticed it's mostly fun for just 20-40 and preferably with friends/family.
I skipped this purchase.
----
Now I want to buy games for my PS3 first unless the 360 offers exclusive (DLC's) like Fable and Fallout 3 (DLC). I also have more friends on my PSN (RL) then on Xobx Live.
It's still my opinion Sony/SCE can work on their customer approach, this is currently where their biggest weakness lies. Not the price of the console. I also respect the fact that they don't throw dirt around as much as M$ has been doing lately.
But like I said once. M$ is like a gold digger, they say they love you but only care about your money and doing (cheap) things to keep you satified. Sony is like that person who keeps breaking your heart but you keep coming back and forgive them.

It was the 1st 3D rendition of the NBA Live series. I can still remember I was watching a demo of this at a videogame store and that's where I decided,"I gotta have this". It was time to upgrade from the 2D world SNES.
PS2: JRPG
I didn't purchase my PS2 until 2006. I've always love playing Japanese style RPG.
PS3: Cheap excuse(in this case 'expensive') to stop smoking. Really. And it worked!
I was a smoker for 15 years and I've always wanted to quit but never had the courage to.

Back in Fall 2005 (XBox360):
I got the news that PS3 and the Nintendo "Revolution" wasn't coming out till next year and the new XBox was on the way. Up till this point, my Xbox experience was good but nothing I was willing throw $400 at just on brand nname. During that time, I was having major financial problems, but I was still open to purchasing one at a later date.
Luckily, my best friend/neighbor-at-the-time tells me that he's gonna wait in line and get a XBox at launch. I went to that Best Buy and got there just in time to see him come out with his brand new "white & green" box AND (surprisingly) a used Samsung 720p tube HDTV. So I helped him carry the goods into his apartment and I hooked up for him (since he was very hungry/tired).
So I press that "on" button. It does its lil' green light show and revs up like small electric car's engine! Why was that thing so loud? We played CoD2 and Madden 2006. Call of Duty was fun but Madden was barebones...I WASN'T SOLD. So, I just stuck with my PS2 and whenever something noteworthy came out on the Xbox360...I would go next door and check it out. Oh and Live wasn't all that impressive to me. I didn't see the value in paying for it.
Fall 2006 (PS3 and Wii)
By the time November came around, a lot of stuff had changed:
I wanted a HDTV, badly.
There was this Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD thing going on. HDMI vs. Component.
I wasn't gonna let another holiday season go by with being next-gen console-less.
I decided that I wasn't going to buy a 360 just off of my experiences with my friend's 360. He got errors/freezes all the time. I noticed that Microsoft was f'n their customers up the ass with all those over-price peripherals. Which IMO, most of them should've been included in the 1st place. And I kept hearing about this RROD thing that Microsoft seemed to IGNORE at the time.
So I had a choice...buy a PS3 or buy a Wii. I'm a big fan to both companies. Nintendo and Sony gave me some of my best gaming childhood memories. But I found out that the Wii couldn't do HD nor could it do Next-Gen graphics. That was unacceptable to me. I NEEDED next-gen. So I researched the PS3 to find out...why the hell was it so expensive. I discovered and educated myself on Blu-Ray, the cell-processor, the stupid amount of SPUs it has, the emotion chip (TRUE backwards compatibility), and the brand new PSN that was still FREEEEEE.
All this stuff in this one machine! I came to one conclusion: Sony had done it again! They developed another console that could defy the test of "tech" time. They gave a console that was the future.
I knew all my favorite game franchises would be on the PS3: Final Fantasy, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, Gran Turismo, etc.
&
I knew some of my favorite developers would be making their new IPs on the PS3: Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, etc.
I was a no brainer for me. I got in line for like 2 days, got my 20gb and never looked back. Unless I wanted to play GoW2 or FF12, but is that looking back???
Playstation is here to stay. And Sony is gonna kill 2009 with that new Sony X1 (my next phone).

First off I've always been a Sony fanboy, not just in the console wars, but in most electronics, so most of the stuff I have is Sony, like my TV, my Computer, Alarm Clock, MP3 player, Stereo, etc. When I finially managed to get a job and get enough money for a console, I looked at the different ones, and not many 360 games that were coming up interested me, and the lack of wi-fi and free online also kept me away. I didn't have an HDTV at the time so I didn't care about any of that. And the final thing that got me in the store is when they said that they were getting rid of full backwards compatability once the 60 gigs were done for, so I had to go out and get it then. Also I love my PSP so that helped influence my descision. I'm the only one I know who has one out of all my friends, so they all like to dis it alot, but oh well.
Then I bought the Wii sometime around November or December 08, and there really wasn't a reason behind it, just there was one in best buy, and it was pretty much impulsive. I like the first party Nintendo games such as Metroid, Zelda, and Mario, so it's mainly for them.
I'll probably be getting a 360 here sooner or later, Duno what games I really wana get though...

I bought my PS3 on launch day while I still had the 360. At first I played the 360 more and used the PS3 for movies and blu-ray, but with my 360 breaking I started playing the PS3 more. Since, games were getting better for the PS3 so I only purchased games for it.
Getting rid of the 360 opened an opportunity for my girlfriend to talk me into getting a Wii. The Wii was like getting a board game for my girlfriend, she played it for awhile and then it kind of sat there collecting dust. We sold the Wii to get more games and blu-ray movies for the PS3.
Now my girlfriend has games to play like LBP, BUZZ, and Rockband so I don't have to worry about getting another system.

PS3---I thought to myself, damn I'm gonna miss out on some exclusives if I don't get one and I started to get into HD movies(blu-ray) and I thought $400 was the right price for blu-ray and games
Wii---grew up on Nintendo software---bought Mario Galaxy---and then it went downhill from there because it's more catered to casual gaming--- I'll smoke you in WiiSportsTennis though!

I didn't attempt to get one at launch because I knew it would probably just result in exhaustion and frustration when I couldn't find one (so few available).
I ended up buying one as soon as I could find one in stores (which was mid-Feb); ended up with a launch 60 Gb, complete with Talladega Nights.
I bought it for the games, not Blu-ray or anything else. Sony produced on the PS2 and I knew they would on the PS3. It took a little while, but they have.
There was no chance I would ever buy a 360, so there really wasn't any choice. Regardless of the RROD or anything else. Hell, I honestly wouldn't take one if it were free. Now, if it were the Sega 360, maybe.
I knew the Wii would suffer from the same lack of games that the Gamecube did, but I considered getting it as well as the PS3 (though later). The motion controls never impressed me, so that's not a selling-point. I'm still waiting for the price to equal the value--and for it to come in black. Once you go black...

I was waiting till either MGS 4 or GTA 4 came out which ever one came out first then I would be getting my PS3. Now then along came the announcement that the console would be losing b/c so I nipped to my nearest Argos and they had a sale on buy a PS3 get 2 games plus a 3rd for free, I got Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm and Formula 1 Championship Edition. I nipped across to Game and got Resistance Fall Of Man for £20 pre owned.
Not yet bought a Wii and now I doubt I will get one, it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Now ps3 was out,2 months later after launch,i got mine, and wat did we have here, reviewers say it still has the same graphics as 360 n some instances 360 was better and am like WAT??
I still visited my favorite sites like gamespot etc who gave much attention to ps2 than the xbox thus ps3 will still have that attention..........lo n behold, they were now behind 360.
After about 8 mths of playing my ps3 without having any site making me proud of my purchase EXCEPT PSX,i then decided to get a 360.
I got the 360 simply because,i decided to grow up n stop being a fanboy.Secondly to stop me being bias and speak the truth.Thirdly i was tired of holding the same ol' black dualshock,i wanted a new white controller for a change.
Now the Wii is something am not sure i will get.

I hesitantly bought the original Xbox in 2001 and have never been so dissappointed with a gaming purchase. After experiencing harddrive issues, freezing, and a poor game library, I sold the thing for $100.
I bought the PS3 at launch. -never had a problem with it. While it has yet to fill the shoes of its older siblings, it has had some fantastic games thus far and there are many more on the horizon.

I was happy what Sony had brought me, and in surance that they would bring that to me again...I bought my PS3.
That is so simple it's funny.
But now one and a half years later...Sony have not lost my trust because they have yet again brought me a hell of a fun.
+ it plays blu-ray.

I just got a Wii for Christmas and i chose that due to Wii fit (i know sounds stupid)plus Zelda and some final fantasy games as well So far i'm impressed with it but its like people say it's not really a next gen console but it's still an amazing concept console.
I didn't choose a Xbox 360 due to working at the call center and seeing all my friends having issues with their consoles.

I tried to refrain from the PS3 cause of the cost, but I had to have Hot Shots, RFOM and GT. I have purchased many games for the PS3 since then. My 360 kinda collects dust now even though I have Gears 2 waiting to be played.

Playtation 3: My mom had won at the casino and gave me the money for my Playstation 3 at launch. She won 30k in 2006 so 600 bucks was small in comparison. At first I was going to put it up on ebay along with Resistance: Fall of Man, a game I had weeks before the PS3 even came out. My parents somehow got me to open it to try blu-ray on our new flat screen in the living room. A year following pretty much sucked because I had no other games to play. It forced me to buy a bunch of blu-rays.
Which do I prefer?
I choose the PS3 over the 360. It makes me angry that my 360 got the RROD and I had believed it to be brought in for repairs but instead wait weeks for a refurbished one. The PS3 is reliable and is kicking ass with teh new games that just came out (MGS4, Resistance 2) and the games ahead (KILLZONE 2 is all I ahve to say). My own cousin bad mouthed the PS3 back in the day and now he's looking into one to play KILLZONE 2. Go figure.

Nintendo Wii: I was going to get one for Mario Galaxy but I couldn't find a Wii at the time. it was sold out everywhere for like more than a year. I don't think I will ever get one now since its like only a little better than the Gamecube. The controller is just a gimmick. But its no joke that the Wii is owning right now.

2.) for the games. I'm a huge RPG fanatic and I was assuming that that the huge PS2 library for rpgs would continue. So far I'm very disappointed But nonetheless, the situation gave me a reason to try out different genres which normally I wouldn't care about.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. Thanks Sony for the great product!

The system itself if great so I guess my gripe is the games or lack there of. I like rpgs and sports. On the rpg front I'm not happy the offerings thus far but I've been more than happy with some of the sports titles for the PS3.
I'm hopeful we'll see more rpgs in 2009 !

My 360 was an impulse buy. Everyone I knew was talking about how great was GeoW, I was waiting for the PS3, and had an opportunity to sell my PS2, so I sold it and bought the 360 and Gears. I'm on my second machine right now.
And I got my PS3 because being a PS player since 1996 and all my friends having a PS3, I had to have it. And with a Socom promised I was very excited. And of course GOW3, MGS4 and Gran Turismo I was/am still excited about the games lineup.
So, at the end with the exception of the Wii, I bought the 360 and the PS3 because of the software, GeoW 1 & 2 and Bioshock made to the 360, while everything else made to the PS3.

I firt purchased a wii because like I said above earlier I was nintendo fan and could not wait to get my hands on the wii control and the new zelda game.
I then purchased and xbox 360 because most of my friends raved about gears and halo 3 and mostly bioshock. So I bought one and played gears and bioshock and halo. I didn't like halo or gears, and only enjoyed bioshock. Suffice to say I passed halo 3 and never touched again and as for gears I returned it the same day I bought it. I only enjoyed bioshock and a couple of multiplat games at that time.
I would like to say that I owe my life to a friend of mine who had a ps2 back in 2006 and showed me gta san andreas, shadow of the collusus, ratchet, jak, final fantasy, and most importantly god of war 1 and 2. After seeing all these awesome games I lamented all I had missed during the ps2 era. After hearing that the 60 gb bc ps3 where going to stop being manufactured I rushed out to buy one. with the guarantee that all the previous titles I played with my friend would be available on the ps3. Never have I been more happy with a game system. also blu ray was a bonus since I enjoy watching movies immensely. Since buying my ps3 I now have over 35 game titles and over 15 of them only found on the ps3.
As for my wii, it sits waiting for a new game like a new zelda I suppose and as for 360 I now only rent games that I want to play because buying games for that system is a waste of money since i don't know when it will give out on me.
I own all three systems but only my ps3 gets my utmost attention and I game on it everyday. Thanks to my friend who decided to show me the power of the playstation. literally I owe him my life!

I got The WII solely for Zelda. Legend of Zelda was the first game I ever beat and since I've been a bit nostalgic for the series beat every game released for a Nintendo system at least once.

When I got my PS3 I was origionally looking at the 360 couple of friends had one and Dead Rising was a game that I felt I had to play.
But while at a blockbuster one day I saw a PS3 bundle 80GB system w/ Motorstorm and Surfs Up on BD a HDMI cable the BD remote 5 free BD movies by mail and 20 weeks of free game rentals for $600. That was $450 of free stuff I couldnt pass that up. Never did get that 360 Dead Rising is just gonna have to wait til after KZ2

So I got them in order with the 360 coming out a year before Wii n England and the PS3 not appearing til march 2007.My first 360 was OK but I sold it as I needed the cash when moving out of a house for a deposit and didn't get another til may 06. Some of the aerly games were uninsprinring and until Halo3 and Gears arrived with ME that it got into gear(NGS was great but DR looked like cap and was painful to play)sadly soon after getting Bioshock for u it my run of dying Pros began and I never got to finiah Bioshock on the console as I finally got shot to buy my PS3 before my year full store warranty ran out(four of my six 360 deaths were not RROD and the extended warranty from MS covered only RROD so getting rid was a no brainer for me)which ended ny wish of having all three-and it'll take something special for me to buy anything MS cnsole flavoured ever again. I feel they knew their only chance of getting over Sony was to be out first but they did it knowing 360 wasn't ready but went ahead anyway and used our cash to tempt devs into deals or going multi by merely being out first-where was the care for their customer? I worry for th future when I see MS policies of not catering to gamers(faulty goods and paying for online)and paying for devs to migrate from Sony and paying for timed exclusives and dlc while shutting their own studios and copying Sony and Ninty ideas(Lips-singstar, Avatars-Miis, Iphone and Zune anre the same thing too and I could go on and on).Anyway they lost a customer in me and I strongly feel they are a bad infuince in the gaming world that doesn't put much in while leeching others ideas and IPs.
Wii I got for Metroid, SMG and a few others and I think when Motion+ comes FPS on Wii will be great(for core gamers too-I don't hold with Ben that Wii can't give something to us NMH and S&P are both games for non casuals and there's plenty coming this year with Fatal Frame and The Conduit topping the list).
PS3, however, gives you everything and though the price can be offputting(my launch 60Gig wasnearly £460 with two games)to make a 360 nearly feature compatable cost as much if not more and even then some stuff you just can't do.
Also I prefer Sony exclusives and many 360 games go to PC anyway(I finally finished Bioshock on PC and it was way better than the 360 version imo)while Ninty/Sony games wont. Sony consoles have always been reliabe for me and while I realise Sony shoot themselves in the foot with arrogant statements and ambitious(read unmakeable)release deadlines they still do gaming business in a more thoughtful and giving way than MS do. LBP wouldn't have been made with MS backing(oddly now they're copying even that but I forget the name of the game they unveiled at CES)and Sony allow and back their first, second party devs in making new IPs for us gamers. It's a Rolls Royce among consoles, PSN is free, reliable and boasts more games with dedicated servers(a thing which MIGHT just make Gears2 bearable online-I've only ever seen glitches like that in Bethesda games before!and the host advantage is laughable too)and while Home isn't yet the force it could be it still has huge potential and will grow and grow-its also a brave move that MS, again, wouldn't even think of.
If MS were the only manufacturer on the block I would really fear for gamers as they show us even less respect than SCEE(surely Sony should sort these slackers under their own banner out properly as europe may not be as loyal next time round if the poor tratment of us goes on for much longer)and I dont see them innovating or supporting studios to do so-only closing their studios and paying Capcom, Rockstar and SE huge amounts for, actually, pretty little.
I know business is cut throat but to neglect the creative side of the most creative industry on the planet cannot be good for anyone longterm. And if we swallow them selling us all faulty hardware(and knowingly so) and making us pay for a largely P2P onlin game service how will they decide to shaft us lubeless next time?
Im no fanboy but don't trust MS with a passion of mine and fear they'll cobntinue taking us all for a ride if they get the upper hand.

1.Best reliability; RRoD doesn't exist on PS3
2.Built-in Wi-fi
3.Blu-ray and the fact that it is scratch-resistant
4.PS3 doesn't scratch the disc when it is being played (unlike xbox 360)
5.Gran-turismo 5

I bought a Wii because of all the hype before last christmas, played the tennis a bit, which I admit it was fun. Zelda (twilight princess) was very kiddy in my opinion, but Resident Evil 4 and the new metroid prime were not bad. Didn't touch the wii afterwards.
I sold it on ebay on Christmas when I saw the $150 offer from Sony's credit card for more than I bought the Wii (!), bought a PS3 on Amazon, and ended up with extra money in my pocket! Oh and I absolutely love it. Have already finished both of the resistances, the heavenly sword, and COD4.
The reason I didn't get a 360 (although I was tempted to get an arcade because it's initial price is cheap) was the reliability issues, the lack of WiFi, and that there is no real exclusive on it, since I can play its exclusives on my PC (Gears is in fact the only game on 360 I'd like to play, and perhaps Mass Effect).
I am absolutely happy with my PS3, it's way better than the measly Wii. Although would have liked to see PS2 BC, since I missed on PS2 and sticked to PC gaming.

So, I have one question for all of you: have you played Valkyria Chronicles yet? If not, SHUT UP.
