Mass Effect Trilogy Confirmed For PS3?

Ever since EA snapped up Bioware, everyone has been considering the possibility of Mass Effect coming to the PlayStation 3. After all, EA's only loyalty is to money, and they're always interested in catering to the largest possible audience.

Well, according to a "fairly reliable source close to Electronic Arts," as reported by SecondStoryGamer, the upcoming sequel and any new installments in the future will indeed be available on Sony's machine, in addition to the Xbox 360 and PC. Evidently - and not surprisingly - EA decided to make the jump to multiplatform due to "the economic outlook." In other words, due to the poor state of the economy, EA wants to make as much as they possibly can out of their current slate of titles, and allowing the critically acclaimed RPG franchise to come to the PS3 would certainly help. As for the original, the source claims it's "likely" that EA will release a port of Mass Effect at some point this year. While we can only classify this information as "rumor" for the time being, we can supposedly expect the official announcement to come at the Game Developer Conference in March. If it does happen, it's good news for all PS3 owners, as it gives them a high-profile RPG series, which is something the PS3's library desperately needs.

We'll keep our eyes peeled for more evidence concerning this breaking news, and if we're lucky, someone from EA might confirm it publicly before GDC 09. But at the very least, this news is quite encouraging.

Out of every game I've played on 360 that were exclusives.. the ones I envied most were Bioshock and Mass Effect. Since Bioshock is already in the PS3 lineup that just leaves ME/ME2/ME3. If this is true there is no reason to potentially get the 360 I was thinking about. Hell it saves me money so that's awesome news if it's all true.

I liked Mass Effects main quest but I would rather snort elephant diarrhea than drive that awful vehicle around the bland, uninspired wasteland landscapes on those extra planets for all of those horrible fetch quests that made up 90% of the side quests, and thus, 90% of the game.

Actually, I really enjoyed exploring the different planets. I've had a fascination with space travel since I was a child, so a game that allowed me to virtually explore "alien worlds" was like a childhood dream come true.

That being said, yeah, they could have done a little more with their "alien worlds" than they did...

They will likely shop it out just like they did for the PC port, which seems to be superior from what I've heard.

There's gonna be a 2 disc special edition that will be soon coming out for 360 that includes the original game, the downloadable content with some other extras like trailers, making of, etc. for around bones. It's definitely not going to be full price. If ME is gonna arrive for PS3, I guess we can expect the same type of package for PS3 gamers.

Oh yea this is definitely true. I mean for God's sake - it's EA - that already says enough. It'd be cool if they remade Mass Effect 1 for PS3 also. But as for Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3 - not so much news to me ever since I heard EA acquire Bioware. Again the reason why I'm so confident and sure about this is because....it's ELECTRONIC ARTS!!! But this is good...PS3 is gaining xbox 360 exclusives. Bioshock was one...now this. And guys Bioshock and Mass Effect were big things!!!

Has anyone noticed how fast xbox 360 exclusives went multiplatform compared to playstation exclusives??? I mean it took some time for Final Fantasy to go multiplatform didn't it?? Devil May Cry??? Tekken??? Anyway...soon it will be 1st party exclusives...would be still nice if we can get the kojima and nagoshi treatment.

Hasn't Bungie pretty much gone independent from MS?

I'm pretty sure they'll continue on as a 2nd party developer but that doesn't mean they would only stay exclusive to MS. They are pretty much free to create new IPs for other systems.

PS3 exclusives don't go multiplatform as fast as Xbox 360 exclusives because people care less about them. There's less demand. Bungie is now independent of Microsoft but has said that they will continue to make games exclusively for the 360.

Mass Effect is one of my favourite games so seeing the series on my PS3 would be great. I may even consider buying ME1 all over again for the PS3 even though I am still getting lots of pleasure out of my 360 one.

Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard that the Gears of War exclusivity deal with Microsoft only covers the first 2 games. So maybe Gears of War 3 will be multiplatform.

Who is surprised about this? See SE and Final Fantasy, others will follow. Hopefully the new game will be developed using PS3 and then ported to 360. I guess we have to wait for more details.

BioWare has locked the thread regarding this on their official forums with the statement "we don't comment on rumors". I never understand this. If it's not true, just say so. The "no comment" thing only spurs the rumors on.

People need to stop comparing this to Final Fantasy/Tekken/Devil May Cry going multiplat. The 360 had Bioshock for a year before we got it, and Mass Effect for even longer (if we get it at all). All Sony's "lost exclusives" are coming out simultaneously on both systems. Not the same thing AT ALL.

I dual-booted for years, Zorigo, but games were literally the only thing I ever used Windows for. Around 7 years ago I got fed up, decided to just do all my gaming on consoles, and ditched Windows for good. I haven't looked back.

If this is true I don't see any reason to keep my Xbox 360... Most of the games coming out in the future that I'm looking forward to are on the PS3 either exclusively or multi-platform.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite games; the only real problems with it are the framerate issues and texture pop. That said, it has the best story in any RPG I've ever played. The main reason I have an Xbox 360 is not because I liked it for its exclusives, but because all of my friends are on XBL, not PSN.
