Ubisoft Sets I Am Alive For March

Has it really been flying this low under the radar? So low that we've completely missed any build-up or hype due its almost non-existent profile?

First, let's make sure you're up-to-date on everything we have concerning Ubisoft's creative and promising adventure title, I Am Alive: here's the first batch of major details, followed by a new info update (with a lone screenshot), and this debut trailer, which premiered at last year's E3. As far as we knew, it was scheduled to release some time this spring, but in terms of details, we've just linked you to everything we know. ...so is it really possible that it's set to launch in March? Eurogamer says Ubisoft has confirmed the release for March (yes, of 2009), which moves it up from the estimated "Q2 2009" release window. Unfortunately, though, this move may place I Am Alive in direct competition with Resident Evil 5, which is slated to arrive on March 13. You never want to butt heads with a guaranteed blockbuster, especially when you're attempting to sell an innovative IP. Then again, I have yet to speak to anyone who doesn't have high hopes for Ubisoft's project, and developer Darkworks certainly understands the "survival" medium, so who knows? Maybe it'll be great.

We just find it a little strange that it's only a few months off when the information has been so light since its unveiling at E3 2008. Typically, games like this would get a whole lot more exposure on their way to launch... But hey, we won't complain. And as a side note, Ubisoft revealed that Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. would also release in March. That one, we kinda knew about.

I don't recommend going up against big name games. Ask Sega (Valkyria Chronicles) & DICE (Mirror's Edge).

Well I trust ubisoft so it's probably pretty good, but light details equals little gas in the hype engine. Don't go up against RE5 though! Here's what happens: people will buy RE5, tell themselves they will look into I am Alive and by the time they finish RE5 they will have forgotten all about it and will start saving up for the next big hyped release.

Meh, I don't know much at all about this game other than a trailer i watched a couple months ago, but I'm itching to buy a game so I think I'll buy it first day to just give some love. RE5 has already disappointed me with how far it has deviated from the original RE games so I'm not buying it. I might rent, but that's about it. Seriously, Tricell and Africa? Pfft....

@ King James: I has nothing to do with the controls or camera. I just don't like the direction they took the plot. They deviated too far from what RE was.

Cool. I don't care about RE5. I want an I Am Alive demo first. Like most the trailer got me interested but the more I read about it the more likely it seemed it could be a borefest.

I find RE 1-3 farmore enjoyable than RE4,RE4 and by the looks of RE5 just appear to be gruesome action games, instead of horror games. Blood Curse Siren is a fantastic example of what horror games shouldbe like, i play each episode weekly when a friend comes round its fantastic.

2 each his/her own. The fact is the RE4 is one of the best games in the genre! And IMO is one of the best games I've played, PERIOD. Capcom was praised for the change of gameplay. They took a risk and they revolutionized the horror genre, again.

Don't get it twisted, I like RE1-3 but I didn't start to love the series until RE4, and I'm not the only one who feels that way. I like this new way to play horror games and I would never want to go back to the way horror games used to play. Just because Windows 2000 Pro was a great OS, doesn't mean that I'd prefer it over Windows XP SP3. Time for progress and change.

Clumsy inventory system, irritating item-based gameplay, clunky combat controls...I mean damn if I wanted to play a horror game that had THAT much "last-gen" elements in it, I'll go play Alone in the Dark.

I can understand people being upset that it's less survival/horror and more action but if you played RE4 you can't say that was all it was. You still wind up being swarmed by zombies with just a few bullets left and no idea which way to go to escape, I found it more intense. Plus we have the news that RE5 will have 2 modes: one regular and one action so you can take your pick. I cannot comprehend how anyone would want to return to controlling human characters that behave like tanks on an NES game (up is forward).

its not a horror game!!!! its an action game!!! and its great action game but one thing its not is a horror game! the only part in that game with a real horror atmosphere was the lab and the regenerators, most people play RE4 to blow s*** up, christ i sound like an uncensored version of woody fromm Toy Story.

Dead Space and Blood Curse Siren are proper horror games of this gen.

I just hope they have the puzzle type parts required to move on like in the first few (i never played RE4). If it is strictly killing to get through the levels then forget it. I loved the first one a lot because it combined Tomb Raider(puzzles) with well the best comparison i can make is Resistance 2(chopping up and blowing up creatures).

I've been eagerly anticipating this ever since I saw the first trailer. I love unusual concepts like this, and am glad to have a game that's not about blasting everything in site.

So far I Am Alive sounds like a big budget Disaster Report, and that couldn't make me any happier.
