Spike TV's 2006 Video Game Awards Scheduled

G-phoria may not be the same big deal it once was, but one other game awards program is rarin' to go.

Spike TV's official website for the upcoming 2006 Video Game Awards is now open, and it confirms that last year's MC, Sameul L. Jackson, is returning to host the event. However, there is no indication of the presenters and performers on tap for this year; 2005's show featured the likes of Snoop Dogg, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Charlize Theron, and Kiefer Sutherland. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer to see the list of who's who for this year.

They'll be handing out awards for 28 different categories, ranging from the prestigious Game of the Year to the titillating Cyber Vixen of the Year. Gamers can vote for their favorites online, but we're not sure yet how much your vote will ultimately matter. The site simply says, "winners of all categories except Critic's Choice are determined in part by viewer voting."

To be eligible for that latter category, the game's official release date must've been between November 8, 2005 and December 24, 2006. Every other category has a release window of December 1, 2005 to November 7, 2006.

The 2006 Video Game Awards airs on Wednesday, December 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. If you want to start voting now, head on over to the official 2006 VGA website.
