Square-Enix Prepared To Shock PlayStation 3 Owners?

No, it may not happen, but just go with me on this:

As you all know, the mysterious countdown is almost over, and it won't be long before we see the "new vision" that Square-Enix is hyping. Even though I wouldn't be surprised to see yet another Nintendo-based announcement, or a relatively useless iPhone title or something, I'm thinking PS3 owners might be surprised with the unveiling. For quite a while now, owners of Sony's next-gen console have complained bitterly of Square-Enix's lack of support, and although they don't typically bend to fan pressure, we have to assume the constant negativity has had some impact on the publisher. Furthermore, they're kicking off 2009 with the Blu-Ray release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," and let's not forget about the very special PS3 bundle that goes along with it. Yes, it'll only be available in Japan, but it's rare to see S-E pay this kind of attention to Sony these days. On top of which, Blu-Ray could be the perfect vehicle for a publisher like Square-Enix; they tend to focus on heavy CGI, and it's far easier to jam all that information on the BD format than separate it out onto multiple DVDs.

This may be the reason why Final Fantasy Versus XIII remains a PS3 exclusive while FFXIII is headed to the Xbox 360. Now, we also know that despite all the great PS3 exclusives coming up, several are still unannounced. We assume that one of them is Team ICO's project, but what if Square-Enix is preparing something special for the PS3? You know, FFXIII for the PS3 is almost done; they have time to do something else with Sony's machine while they work on the 360 version of the game, so maybe they will do something special for the PS3 that's FFXIII-related. Who knows? But it's a fact that PS3 owners are long overdue for some good old-fashioned S-E respect, and we'd love to see it come with this "new vision."

Now you watch. The countdown will reveal a FFXIII comic book, or something.

no the site is also for 360 audiance, meaning the news will be for both. However big it is it will not be intended to redeem them selfs with us. Plus I am somewhat scared, because what if they bring another classics playstation game to 360, any news from them recently is bad news for us ps3 fans, I expect the trend to continue.

i wouldnt be surprised that final fantasy 7 is coming. imagine they didnt tell microsoft and just said 'sure, we'll do a multiplat deal with ff13 but you dont get versus' so ms naturally go 'sure we'll get leet loads of money'.

then we find out ff7 is being remade ps3 only. can u imagine the sales? it will dominate ff13 in fact all past final fantasies no doubt.

I am just going 2b optimistic and focus my energy on something spactecular for ps3, even though we r going 2 share it with xbox. We have nothing 2 loose unless they release it on xbox 1st wich will kill most ps3 fans enthusiasm e.g the last remnant. S-e should b cautious about delayed time releases 4 ps3 because there is always going to b a big exclusive coming out or one wants to get.

Honestly I just purchased my first RPG for my old PS2. I havent played the thing in like half a year but this girl I know said it was good so we picked it up.

I dusted it off and put it in (kingdom hearts) and was like hey this game aint bad at all. Its honestly pretty fun. Why wasn't it ever made for the original Xbox?

As for Fable or Oblivion or Fallout 3, those are western RPGs, an entirely different beast.

Fable is not a JRPG. It's barely an RPG at all. More of an Adventure/RPG hybrid. Good game, though... just... nothing at all like a Final Fantasy game so... it's a poor comparison.

Secondly, the developers had to fill the game full of sex and violence to get the 360 audience to really buy in. FFXIII will be NOTHING like Fable, and since 360 owners generally don't like things that are different, I highly doubt this game will have the hugest of audiences on the 360.

I'd say there's a pretty large audience for JRPGs here in the US, they just aren't x360 owners. Josh I'm glad you are broadening your horizons but you even admit you never tried an RPG till this Gen. We freakin live and breath em. If you want a good PS2 RPG get FFX, no silly disney characters.

^^^Yeah it was my friend Ashley who told me about that. I have to say tho the attention to detail is amazing.

You go around and find things, level up, get money and buy stuff. I was amazed PS2 could pull of them graphics to.

Is FF like that? If so maybe ill try that out to when it comes to 360.

Who cares about the sales of Fable, the games themselves are horrible compared to self-publicised Molyneux's image of the games. Self-publicised Molyneux makes the games sounds like they're better than anything else in history.
And they're exactly the opposite. Fable 2 is so easy and pointless, it's not funny.

lol I can't blame this website for having the unfortunate duty to keep us up to date with news that's supposed to "shock" us faithful Sony-ests or even if there are as many out there these days the Squeenix fans? But I'm not even bothering to get excited much like many others I've had it with the hype of everything. If anything to be excited about was the Resident Evil 5 demo that I downloaded yesterday and YES it is friggen awesome I don't care if it does play like RE4 and not the others. But back onto the topic at hand...I will HOPE it's something worth a damn...highly doubt it.

I don't have any faith in Squeenix anymore. Their announcements are lackluster at best anymore and their judgment has been compromised by Microsoft's money hat. Their claims at being multiplatform do not jive with their actual policy of mostly ignoring the PS3. And how can they ignore the absolute mountain of money they'd be rolling in if they released a remake of FF7?

My thoughts...
It'll be something "Western gaming" related. With that, I'd bet it's something 360-related. Maybe they've decided to making FF vs. XIII go multiplatform! Sad, I know...

Although, I'm not entirely sure when this countdown was created/started, cuz in the last 2 weeks or so, A LOT has happened with Microsoft's Gaming division. A bunch of dudes, including Larry Hryib (Major Nelson) have been let go. So, in light of that, maybe SE is trying to get back some Sony love. Who knows.
Somehow my money is still on something special for the 360, and nothing for the PS3.

Nope nothing really special at all. I sort of knew it, I mean what WOULD they do to surprise PS3 owners??? Anyway "A new vision" - it just simply means a new trailer.

They've also added a character in the character profile - Sazh, you know the afro guy. The trailer will be open in like 23 hours and 45 min. There's also a message board, and specs.

TALK ABOUT A NEW VISION - then again I am excited to see a new trailer, sort of.

This just in the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII is getting exclusive DLC and FFvXIII is going to be multiplatform with exclusive DLC going to the Xbox360 version. Furthermore, Square-Enix will no longer support the PS3 as the architecture is exceedingly difficult to program for. FFVII is being remade exclusively for the Xbox360 to get new fans onboard. Square-Enix will also be changing their name to Square-Studios after being acquired by the Microsoft Game Studios. Have a good day and go to hell Sony.

I am VERY WORRIED about this! Why? Well it's got finalfantasy13game in the link - so it's FFXIII related.... we heard all we need about the project so any additional information may be a moving or another game to X-Box or the Wii... I HOPE I'm wrong

But have you guys noticed that the countdown is the SAME as the NEW TRAILER on both the Japanese and North American FFXIII sites?

Anything "New" as of late from them usually translates to something in the form of handheld games, and 360 deals. I highly doubt anything new would apply to the PS brand, seeing as that would be considered "old". If it was Pre-FF10 Square, I would be excited. But I really don't care for that company at all anymore. It's too bad, they were at one time my favorite.

Ben, I love your enthusiasm, but SE has made it clear that it pays more attention to spreadsheets than fanbase loyalties. I'd venture to guess that PS3 sales of FFXIII will exceed Xbox 360 sales (over the long haul). My assumption is based on a belief that MANY 360 fans aren't interested in FFXIII itself, but are simply reveling in the fact that PS3 fans are being denied an exclusive that we all thought was in the bag. If I'm right about this, then SE will sure have some explaining to do!

Could not agree with you more about the fact of the 360 crowd. I used to work in a gamestop (yeah it sucked) and being one of the only people that ever entered the door that whole-heartedly supported the PS3 I got to hear the most annoying crap when FFXIII was announced for the 360. A ton of people goaded me with "how does it feel now that you don't have anything to call your own" and the like all while laughing and talking about how they don't care that it is even on the system. So yeah a lot of people that I have dealt with could give a crap about the game in general and are more excited that Sony "lost" it to Microsoft. Well, I can't speak for all 360 owners so I don't know if this mentality really describes the majority. All I know is that even if the 360 is going to get some type of "incentive" I will be taking this one on the PS3. I would rather have native HD than to have some exclusive DLC.

Well, I'm definitely setting on fire as many Xbox 360 FF XIII delivery trucks as I can, while their heading to their respective retailers. I just hope SquareEnix gets at the very least half the message, and that I don't get caught of course, I still want to play FFVS XIII, that of course it comes out while I'm still sodding young. WOW this game looks phenominal, i recomend you all to watch the trailer....... i dont see how graphics liek that are possible on the 360, there the best ive ever seen, there up to the quality of Advent Children and the quality i was expecting this gen. The gameplay looks more engaging than 12. i really want to play this game!
