Capcom: Too Many Headaches To Put Online Play In Rearmed
These days, the fans typically demand some form of online multiplayer with their games, even when it comes to downloadable titles. But several of them, on both XBL and the PSN, have experienced a few online issues, and Capcom now says they did the right thing when they opted to keep online play out of Bionic Commando: Rearmed.
According to Gamasutra, Capcom producer Ben Judd said the decision was "the right choice," and reminded us of the digital downloadable titles in the past that have suffered serious online multiplayer drawbacks. In the end, "any additional sales would not have been equivalent to the additional pains" required to input online play for Rearmed. Said Judd:
"After seeing the large amount of headaches, additional production time and cost that comes with adding online, I'm glad we made the choice not to include it."
While we salivate at the possible opportunities missed by leaving online multiplayer out of this game, we certainly understand the sentiment. Not everything needs the online option, and in the end, much of Rearmed's appeal lies firmly grounded in nostalgia...for the days when online multiplayer simply wasn't possible. The fans likely don't miss it, and like Judd says here, why deal with the extra development headaches if we really don't need it? Makes perfect sense to us.
