Famitsu: Dead Rising 2 Coming To PS3

It was one of this generation's most entertaining titles, and although the rumors that it would get ported to the PlayStation 3 were incorrect, Capcom's multiplatform plans for the future remain firmly in place.

The word is out: according to the latest Famitsu, Capcom has said that 2009 would be "the year of multiplatform" (not sure how this contrasts sharply with 2008, but whatever), and that they will be releasing titles on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We knew all about this, but it now seems official that Dead Rising 2 will indeed be multiplatform, unlike its predecessor, which only came to the 360. The other bit of good news is that it's supposedly scheduled to release some time later this year, which, given the lack of information thus far, may be earlier than anticipated. At first, Capcom was clearly on Microsoft's side, issuing several 360 exclusives (like Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, for example), but that quickly changed. Not long after the PS3 launched, Capcom brought over Lost Planet, and since then, their multiplatform focus hasn't wavered. The upcoming Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV are certainly multiplatform, and let's not forget those great contributions to the PSN and XBL. We figure it's not 2009 that is the "year of the multiplatform;" this entire generation fits that description.

Anyway, we're now waiting for the official Dead Rising 2 announcement, which shouldn't be far off. Perhaps they'll reveal it at GDC 09 in only a few weeks time...if they do, we'll be sure to bring you the confirmation for a PS3 version.

not really. If people wanted to play it they would have played it by now. It's not as special as Bioshock to be released like that.

I never played dead rising and this should help fill a left4dead sized hole.

what hole? If I wanna kill zombie-like creatures...I'll play Deadspace. And I hear Siren is pretty good too.

I played L4D and even without being a fanboy it sucks. DR 1 was so good though.

If this has online co-op, a good save system, and a way to just free roam without your health ticking down I will be in love. Also, less babysitting NPC's with awful AI.

I'm looking forward to this, i loved the system DR used and how you could just have fun killing zombies in dead rising and i hope the second is the same.

DR1 had mixed reviews but this sucker coming to PS3 is good, it'll be interesting to see the sales differences. I agree that DR1 should still get a port because PS3-only guys like me never got the chance to play it, plus it could garner more sales for the second iteration when it finally releases. IMO it's just bizarre to make sequels multiplat when one system never saw the first one. I wanted part 1 but when all my friends xboxes had died I said "hell if I'm payin for a busted machine"

Dammit ive been waiting for this game since I played the first one at my cousin's house. That game was so addictive its crazy. I never do do any missions. I spent all of my time just killing zombies and mixing smoothies.

got a 7,000 kill count in 4 hours.

Sorry, the article title it too misleading. It's not official yet, but the titles implies that it is. Dead Rising (the first) should be ported to the PS3.

I think the title just states that Famitsu is stating that it is going to happen.

Funny you should mention that. That was my roommates first RROD. I never got to play DR1. That was very upsetting because I really was looking forward to playing it.

What do you expect Scarecrow? He was a News Photographer. His style was meant to be perceived as a "Everyday Man". I didn't mind him being as he was.

@ Fatcat3788

Funny thing was MS, at the time, claimed it was my disk that caused RROD. And that I inserted it wrong. LOOOOL Because it was caused my me and not the machine's fault, they did not want to honor the warranty. Cus i worked in the retail tech sector didnt take long to resolve it; lets just say it became a legal issue. Man, i was !@#$!!% @ the time. Shoulda sticked to my PS.

Heh heh. What was that about the PS3 losing all its exclusives?

It seems microsoft has lost so much money on their dead 360s they can't afford moneyhats anymore.

I just posted on another news article, but I just bought a 360 a month ago just for killing zombies and playing GeoW2. DeadRising is really fun and IMO I think Left4Dead is fun in coOp or even single player mode. I have deadrising too and no RRoD, but probably cuz mine is a refurb that already went thru a repair for RRoD i bet.

I can't wait for DR2 tho, I'll be getting it for the ps3. I hope they add some kind of online multiplayer to play with friends online in the mall, or wherever the new "location" will be.
