GameStop: God Of War III Assaults Store Shelves In March 2010

While everyone bites their nails in anticipation of the Killzone 2 reviews - yes, ours is right around the corner; we're waiting for the U.S. embargo to lift on Feb. 2 - we imagine PlayStation 3 owners will be doing the same thing for God of War III. ...and based on recent evidence, it might be exactly one year from now.

We still don't have an official release date for the hotly anticipated action title, although most fans were hoping to see it some time later this year. Some recent evidence, including a sneak peek at the gameplay that SCEA will be offering to some publications in February, makes people believe in a 2009 launch. However, most realists will say the game has a Q1 2010 estimate, which we've certainly heard before. Now, we're hearing it again: according to HipHopGamer, retailer GameStop has apparently received an e-mail from Sony that says GoWIII will release in March 2010. We have to assume Sony sent this message so GameStop could begin taking pre-orders (they can't take pre-orders unless there's an estimated release), so it's certainly just a placeholder. But even so, it now seems readily apparent that GoWIII will not, in fact, be ready in time for 2009. There are plenty of fantastic titles on tap for this year, of course, but next to KZ2, GoWIII is next on the "most anticipated" list for many PlayStation 3 owners.

March really does fit into the puzzle, though. Both previous installments in the series released in March, so why fiddle with tradition? Maybe it's a superstition. Maybe the developers are saying to themselves, "if we don't launch the game in March, we won't get those high-9s!" Sure, it sounds irrational, but who knows?

Damn this is why I bought a PS3! Not really though but damn this really sucks! I thought for sure it would come late this year. Oh well, still plenty of great titles coming this year. This might allow me to play some other great game that I might have missed out on.

Sucks but was to be expected because of the previous titles. Guess this year won't be as great. Same thing happened with KZ2 last year. Realists? Only people i've heard that wanted it to come that late were anti-sony idiots. Still I want to wait and hear some official info and see some footage other than that ps2ish crap we got from the video game awards.

Hell yeah! These cookies are special, PS3 fans can enjoy them in all their splendor, but if it touches a 360 fan's mouth it instantly changes to poison due to a chemical reaction in the 360 fan's saliva.

I've always known that one exclusive will be delayed and one will be a flop. This is already coming to fruition as this is been delayed and my money is on infamous being a flop. If you don't think my predictions for exclusives are correct think, killzone 2 delayed into 2009 last year and HAZE flopped.

Why are some people taking about "delays"?

GOW3 has no release date, so there's no way it has been delayed.

I rather wait some more months, but since the beginning the march release sounded more realistic

@rory Haze was developed by a 3rd party studio and published by Ubisoft. It's not Sony fault.

My goodness, 2010 for FF13 and GOW3. I hope Heavy Rain comes out this year. I bet GOW3 will be one of the best looking games ever.

I never put too much stock into what Gamestop says for a release date. When I worked there the dates changed so much. Unfortunately they normally got pushed out but sometimes they were moved up especially when the studio didn't even release a date when Gamestop had already made one up. It is so they can have a date and get reserves on it which boost their numbers and get stores with high reserve rates bonuses. There is probably a company wide reserve contest happening right now.

The store I work at is the busiest in the district, and it is infact leading in pre-orders! And seeing as how I'm the only Sony supporter, imagine how much I had to hype killzone to everyone who walked through my store?

BTW im the 3rd Key for my store.

I totally feel you on being the only Sony supporter in a Gamestop. Why is it that most everyone in Gamestop is a M$ supporter? I did however convert three employees to PS3 when I had each of them bring their Xbox's over to the house to play games on my 47" and then swapped over to COD4 on the PS3 and when they realized it looked just as clean and the online wasn't really crap like everyone said and that it was free to play online all three of them traded their systems in within the month and got PS3's

Since then all four of us have bought or re-bought 360's but still it was a good feeling at the time.

It's a mystery to me, my network sucks balls but online play is still smooth and it's like yeah dude, you payed less for your 360, but since then you added 150 to the price tag just to play online.

I expect perfection from sony bring GOW3 and not imperfection, to those gamers who want GOW3 comeout sooner, u need to stop and think and tell yourself that this is the final GOW3 and I want sony to give us gamers something we will never forget this game.
